  1. I'd rather Gray and a receiver out of our first two picks. Herdman really thinks he's gonna make the NFL. We need players out of those picks, not guys to wait on. Gray is an engineer too, so might not be into football for the long haul.
  2. Cole can't handle the snaps he got last year. When we dressed 7 DL our D was noticeably better, especially the pass rush. For that matter Westerman could use some time on the sideline too. Ran those guys ragged.
  3. More to do with Shologan's level of play than anything. Lots of replacement options.
  4. Maybe Edmonton is ready to move on from Reilly for 2018. He's showing pretty significant signs of wear.
  5. Google "Duron Carter" and read for 5 or 10 minutes. It went south for him the second he left junior high.
  6. That contract tells you Glenn is the starter. No reason to hand him a large bonus and base salary to mentor.
  7. Basically a luxury tax. If a NHL team isn't compliant for a day they lose picks and the league makes the move to get them compliant for them. The CFL "cap" isn't tallied until the season is over, not every day or even every week during the season. It's a moving target.
  8. Here's the reality. Everyone has cap space based on how it's calculated. And it's not a "cap." Literally nothing like the NHL or NFL.
  9. Carter is the toxic kind of stupid. Like the type that reasonable teammates won't put up with. If he was on an actual team he'd have to fall in line or he'd be gone fast. The Als of the past half decade and current Riders are total dumpster fires so he's a good fit.
  10. Stafford is not much more than TCF too. He's gotta earn a spot. He didn't get a deal that precludes being cut fairly easily.
  11. Kickoffs yes...on punts McDuffie was more of a danger to the Bombers and cost a ton of field position with struggles to come up and catch the ball in the air. Think it's hard to find him a real role and spot on the field offensively too. Would rather have an import back so Harris doesn't get exhausted over 18 games.
  12. Wonder if Hodge has a source on Glenn's demands or the Riders having interest in him or just talking out of ass. Hate blogs that present things like that as facts.
  13. Missed my point. Trade value is his rights, not for him signed to play in 2017. If he had a (reasonable) contract for 2017 obviously he'd have more trade value.
  14. Durant is a month away from being a free agent. They dealt a 4th round pick just to talk to him.
  15. They don't owe Glenn anything against the cap. They don't save anything. He's a free agent in a month regardless so how does that affect their 2017 QB budget? Glenn's release is more an indication that the role he wants isn't likely to materialize for him here and a goodwill gesture.
  16. Releasing Glenn has nothing to do with the cap or Nichols.
  17. The problem for sports media in this town boils down to the difference between reporting and journalism. Lawless, Tait, Penton are all great reporters. Even Wiecek in the sports he's really into, curling and horse racing. He's been brutal on other beats. When Lawless got bumped up to the columnist role (journalism) he had to make everything fit a predetermined narrative, regardless of what happened or what a coach I player might say. Still a hell of a reporter, not interesting or really in tune enough to be a great columnist. We don't have any columnists who are good at being journalists. We have reporters. They need to stick to what they do well. The best thing a guy like Lawless does is break news. His opinions are boring. Wiecek's opinions are even worse. They are entitled and self-centered. I can't recall a column of his where he doesn't make some kind of "woe is me" reference. Horrible. You can't suck at your job and complain about how much you suck at your job looking for sympathy. Nobody wants to read that.
  18. NFL is worse. If a DB or LB touches a receiver after 5 yards it's a flag for holding. The CFL just has to fine tune the challenges. The kickoff isn't an offensive play like a FG attempt or a punt or quick kick. The point is for pinning the opposing team in the endzone or having the opposing team concede, kind of like a safety. Doesn't need to be changed.
  19. The chuck and challenge has become a feature of every teams playbook. It's way out of hand. It's also just ridiculous to watch replays in super slo-mo.
  20. Those times are pretty much meaningless for events. Polo Park is basically at the centre of the city's transportation network or at the very least on the edge of it. Many major routes available in all directions. The U of M campus is extremely isolated. There are 3 roads in and out, and only 2 are accessible for events. Everyone entering and exiting the campus has to go through Pembina Highway, be it in their own car or on a bus. It's a ridiculous traffic jam. You're only going to deal with it if you really want to attend a game and you can't really get that last minute day of game walk up because it takes significant planning to get to a game. It's a barrier, whether people want to label it whining or not the resulting empty seats speak for themselves.
  21. Hard to believe Maas played so long in the CFL. Gotta play field position and realize with 8 minutes left in a game you still could have 4 possessions.
  22. Maas has cost the Eskimos at least 2 wins this season by outcoaching himself. This is another one of those games.
  23. Ottawa getting away with a ton of headshots...Pruneau paying for the last one with a head injury, but not the all important 15 yards the Eskimos need.
  24. Haven't heard anything about that. Maybe a roster bonus. Deferred money has to be paid regardless of whether the player is on the roster or not.
