Play calling to kick field goals. Lapo drives me nuts. There was a 2nd and long where he explicitly called a one read play for a 5 yard out to set up a 45+ yard attempt. Not going to fly when you play teams that can score 3 touchdowns in a quarter without blinking.

I think Denmark or McDuffie would be the DI. Sheppard is pretty integral on damn near every down for what Lapo is trying to do to counter blitz, especially with a new back in there who would be playing his first real CFL game.

We can't lose the time of possession badly week after week and expect to win without the defense playing out of their minds like yesterday, even against 1-10 teams. Goal-line stands, redzone turnovers over and over. Our offense needs to be better. It's pretty simple. They need to score points, they need to score touchdowns, they need to get first downs and win field position. They are not doing that. We are relying on our defense to dominate to keep us in games and give us a chance to win.

Lapo needs to trust his OL and run the ball a hell of a lot more too. Our OL is better than pretty much every DL they've faced since week 6. We still struggle to get to 15-20 runs.

3 dropped interceptions from the 3 interceptions they dropped. A dig to Mcduffie in the first that was way in front of him and right into the DBs lap, a pick six if he didn't drop it. Two deflections by DL that were up for grabs and easily could have been picked. They had two big TD drives that were mostly due to two big plays and a ton of penalties. Why don't you want consistent good QB play? I'm happy we can best 1-10 teams and backup QBs with our D...but I think we will need our offense to at least saw off BC and Calgary to give us a chance at winning. Nichols and the offense as a whole need to be much much better to get this team into the Grey Cup.

The defence is winning games, with a helping hand from special teams. The only thing Nichols is doing well is not turning it over and there's an element of luck to that as the Riders dropped at least 3 INTs yesterday, a couple by DL who basically took the ball right out of Nichols hand. Lost the time of possession by 5 minutes, too many two and outs, basically lost the field position battle for the first half until the middle of the 2nd, couldn't get a first down. Our defense saved the game time and again. The difference between us and the teams we have to beat to get to the Grey Cup is a quarterback.

It would be foolish to change the ratio on the OL. The logical options are: Leaving Lochard as tailback. Starting another NI receiver (JFG) and putting Flanders in as starting tailback. Flanders and Lochard could split time and we could DI an import receiver to sub in when Flanders came out. The big hit is going to be that we will lose a DI or two who are just special teamers likely to cover if Harris, Wild etc are out.

Not really. This team is a contender. Why would you make a move that ends your shot if Nichols gets injured? If you're 1 and 10 you might think about "assets," if you're 7-4 you think about winning more games and getting to the Grey Cup this season.

You guys watch too much hockey. Midseason football trades are nothing like what's proposed in this thread. You'd probably get a draft pick for Willy or neg listers.

Glenn has been brutal for most of the season. Playing him is waving a white flag.

Just keep Willy. I'd sooner go with Davis than Glenn if we need to win a playoff game. Nichols isn't playing well enough to just hand him the job with no other reasonable options in wait.

Don't expect a team to make a move that helps another team win midseason.

Smith is a good player, but he's not as good as Denmark consistently yet. If the motivation is to win a game on Saturday, you'd have a hard time convincing me that Smith or McDuffie are better options as receivers. As for the roster issue, there's a multitude of guys who can return kicks and punts on this team if needed like Dressler, Denmark, JFG, Leggett, even Smith. Not all can do punts, but there's options. IMO Lapo has guys marked for certain roles and is rolling with those guys, Sheppard being the inside slot with extra blocking responsibilities, McDuffie for speed. Not how I would build my offense, but we will see how it plays out.

Just wait until February. Demski has no role in Regina. They are literally pushing him off that team right into Walters lap.

Kind of depends what the expectations are and what kind of role he's given IMO. I think as a receiver he tops out as a Anthony Parker type. Useful but just a touch above average. He's not a guy who is going to be able to get open in a bunch of different ways, he's just not that much of a technician. Demski became a "receiver" because the Bisons had 3 guys who were CFL quality players at tailback and they just needed to have him on the field all the time. He was so physically dominant at that level that he barely had to learn the position, he could run by and through everyone. He's the kind of guy you need to find ways to get the ball. He can play a huge role but it has to be crafted for him, he's not a conventional receiver. I'd use him as a guy who is more of an H-Back type, but with some carries too. He can block, he can play football, he'll be useful on special teams.

Demski is more of a hybrid playmaker than a receiver. He'd be a great complement to Harris as he ages.

Maybe old Roddy should be fined under the same "conduct detrimental to the league" clause that BLM was. If he believes there's a conspiracy he can follow "proper avenues."

I honestly believe that the only reason Jones is "better" than someone like a Mike Kelly is that he literally had Mike Reilly fall in his lap. He walked into a job with the best QB in the league at that time. Jones has no respect for this league or this country. It is pitiful. He can't or won't learn the lessons and listen to good advice. He literally gave away the wind in the long quarters on Sunday, which basically ended up being the difference in the game as we got a FG to end each half.

There should be more of a concern for that guy's mental health than anything else. Holy crap is he deluded. It's a game. Has this guy lost touch with reality? Or is this all a gimmick?

I think it's hard to keep more than one of Smith and McDuffie on. McDuffie has unique skills in terms of speed but isn't the most polished. Sheppard can play a role that Lapo loves. Might be moot with Adams, but with Smith ready I think our best lineup is Denmark, Dressler, Smith and Sheppard. Might try to DI McDuffie to rotate in but that means taking someone off the DL or special teams.

Didn't lose the game in the trenches. Lapo didn't give his guys a chance to win it in the trenches. Harris should have carried it 25-30 times.

They don't ask how, they ask how many. But Lapo needs to grow a pair and get that ball over the line.
