Winnipeg 5-5 @ Regina 5-4 Game Day
All of their big plays aside from the Thigpen TD came on max protection with both Bighill and JSK blitzing. 2 and outs start, whole team craters. D played fine when we had a reasonable offense. More worried about figuring out how to make that offense consistent. Shouldn't be impossible. Just over 100 yards in offense in the 2nd half. Can't expect the D to hold a 3 point lead for an entire half with basically no run support.

Banjo Bowl is must win. Lose it, and you're an Eastern Division team for the rest of 2018 and need to do enough to hold off BC.

Hard to believe in all of America the 3 mostly useless but occasionally spectacular import receivers we dressed today were the best we could find. Horrible. Did anyone of them catch half their targets? Why can't we use Simonise and Petermann at all? It's reaching the point where they couldn't be worse.

Totally abandoned everything that worked in the first half. Quick passing game, abandoned. No misdirection, hardly any playaction. Harris over 10 yards a carry, only 15 carries. Sub 200 yards passing. 23 points- pick six = 16 point night for the O. That's the output of a 3-15 team, for 3 straight weeks. Brutal.

Looks to me like Lapo's script today is mostly based on beating the blitz, and it worked on the first number of drives. Sask has adjusted to 3 man rush with a spy and 8 in coverage. Sask is barely even disguising the 3 man rush, their guys are all dropped out pre-snap. I'd give Nichols audibles to runs for those situations, let Harris run downhill at the Sask guys trying to come up out of coverage.

LDC/Banjo Bowl
Except those rookies have totally changed the culture here. They are winning and winning more consistently than any regime here since Cal Murphy. Hall has more rings than Nelson. Nelson could have been hired a DC by any team in the league this year and wasn't. Why is he so great? Popp and Trestman have never developed a QB. Popp in almost 3 decades as a GM/Head Coach in the CFL has never developed a QB. Not a guy I want unless you can be sure that a hall of fame calibre QB is going to be a free agent.

They have done that this year. They are on pace to break the cap. They are all-in. Problem is that it looks like they are all-in with the wrong QB, but who knows how much the injury has affected that. How did they stand pat? They've signed more free agents than anyone but Montreal and re-signed everyone but peripheral players like Bond. If anything I wish they'd focus more on scouting and developing some imports. Popp is a brutal GM and has been for a long time. Buono too. Trestman hasn't won **** without hall of fame QBing. Stubler and Claybrooks could die at any moment.

But at a certain point it becomes clear that Nichols only leads to mediocrity, depending on the state of the rest of the league. We're clearly behind Calgary and usually behind one of Edmonton or BC. If Sask has a good year we're probably fourth. How many years do we want to do this on repeat? Kind of similar to Glenn that way IMO. When you get to that point that you continuously stall out in the playoffs (and maybe even in the regular season) you move on.

Quarterback can't sustain it right now. At some point they need a QB to make some plays against "other" good teams. You can beat the Argos and Lions (at home anyway) sleepwalking through most of the game. They have as many pieces as anyone else.

Looks like Gerald Rivers is in along with Gaitor. 3 DI's on D plus Medlock. They could definitely get Flanders on the roster if they wanted to. To me Wild and Gaitor's roles could be quite easily taken on by one of the Canadians. There's no roster crunch keeping him off. That DL and receiving group are thin as hell.

Practise Observations Aug 30, 2018
Disagree. Stopping the defense from making subs is huge. I'm not sure I'm very confident in their ability to run it though considering a basic pass and catch is an adventure right now.
