Regular Season Bomber News & Discussion
Realistically he should just be starting to get back to full activity. Came back way early. Injured in October.

Around the League: 2018 Season
I wouldn't trade a 2019 first rounder for Burnham. Maybe a 3rd or 4th or conditional pick in 2020. He's just too much like Adams, spectacular in every sense, in the catches he makes and the ones he drops. Montreal used their pick in the supplemental so BC's pick will likely be in the top 2, and the Bombers own pick could very well be up there too. It's a real deep draft class too. I'd keep the picks if I'm the Bombers. They really need an impact NI or two on D.

1A and 1B Quarterbacks
That’s a little backwards from reality. The D has done a good job of getting off the field and even turning the ball over on the other teams side of the field in the first half of the last two games which were terrible losses. Ottawa game fell apart late in the second quarter when offense continuously couldn’t get a first down and kept sending the D out and pretty much the same situation I’m Calgary just in the second half. I mean both games they handed the offense the ball at basically midfield off a turnover, 8-7 game vs Ottawa, believe it was 9-3 in Calgary and out of those possessions we got a FG in Calgary. Those need to be TDs if we expect to beat good teams. The offense is barely moving and rarely scoring touchdowns until the game is over. This game is offense, it’s basically illegal to play D outside of rushing the passer which is something our team is not very consistently good at, and even then you’re likely to take a penalty for how the QB gets tackled. That win streak against the East was all D, Harris and Demski.

Goossen and Chungh are established CFLers.

You’ve got the value backwards. The linemen are worth way more.

It would take a lot more than that. Those guys don’t come along all that often. Sooner deal picks.

And that path has been travelled a couple times this decade. Gray could probably command high six figures total compensation including incentives from the Bombers.

It's inconsistent. That's what I mean by "rarely committed." There are long stretches in games where the run is non existent, which are often the periods in the game where it's a 2 and out parade. And I'm talking about Lapo from 2002 to today, not just the 3 seasons he's had Harris. The only excuse for Harris not having 20 touches every week is if he gets hurt or they have such a ridiculous lead that it doesn't make sense, like maybe the game in Montreal this season.

Plus if the logic is a guy who plays tight end can play tackle, why wouldn't we just use Couture?

I fully expect Sask's D to score 2 TD's on us in Regina. Unless something mystical happens in Nichols sleep where he figures out how to handle a blitz he's going to have a hell of a time, I mean look what they did to BLM. I'm not sure our offense will even match Sask's D in TD's.

Matt Nichols -BOO!!!!!!!
Ya that helps. Also helps if they have to at least respect the fact that the QB might take off when they vacate an entire half of the field when our receivers run verticals. The opposition LB's only have to defend Nichols eyes, not his legs.

Ya he's on the outside, but you're widening the gap on teams that line their ends up on outside shade of the last guy on the line or putting a guy on his outside shoulder for teams that leave their ends outside shade on the tackle. Either way you're basically double teaming that end and having 3-4 blockers (depending on the centre call) on a side of a formation where a defense isn't going to rush more than 3. The whole point of that offense was having usually 7 blockers on 4-5 rushers.

TE is basically never isolated in pass protection against a rush end. Tackles are almost every down. Huge difference.

Redblacks pick up Evan Gill, who was headed for Winnipeg Police last I heard. Also release Menard-Briere.

Matt Nichols -BOO!!!!!!!
Well we know he has a knee injury. I think it's also worth noting how teams have been defending the Bombers and blanketing Harris. Nichols stats have always been helped by basically a historic level of play by Harris as a receiver. A 2 yard throw becomes a 12 yard pass on Nichols stat line. His numbers downfield have always been dreadful. They are just a touch more dreadful this year. Contain Harris, beat the Bombers. Has been the way since 2016. If Lapolice can't figure out how to make teams defend the whole field or at least more of it (I don't think the deep ball will be a consistent threat with this group of players) this offense is sunk.

Rice isn’t a tackle. He could maybe fill in at guard.

I don’t believe Loffler of 2018 can tackle well enough to play there. I felt he was more suited to the WIL spot early in his career because he’s prettt awful in coverage and slower, but he can’t finish a play to save his life this season. They’ve been throwing him near the line and blitzing him a lot in the last 3 games and he’s still struggling like crazy. Personally I’m going all import on D and starting another NI receiver. Trying to deal Loffler and/or a pick for a reasonable NI DL that we can rotate in to have a NI spot back on D.

I think our D is having that problem going against a QB that can't read blitz. Every other QB in the league can and just tear it apart.

Answer to me is get Leggett in at safety, Fenner at SAM. There's a bunch of ways to balance the ratio so Loffler does not have to play much on D.
