I'd be shocked if the Bombers are able to win more than 8 games with that OL.
-
Castillo is a 80% FG kicker who can punt a bit. Maher is a crappy FG kicker with a big leg and a great punter. They are the same guy with inverse strengths. Neither have value because of their passport and the supply of guys like them, flawed American kickers.
-
How many kicks did Castillo miss this preseason? I don't think he's the "asset" some of you guys do. He's good, but there's no shortage of guys like him.
-
Be ready to attack when Willy gets asked about not scoring enough points. Same damn thing man. Wylie took the question as an affront. He simply could have talked about what they have done to improve, adding new guys and having more time together, whatever. He chose his response, and it's a little embarrassing tbh. We all know the media is stupid and not looking for in-depth information. Don't think it looks good on anyone to react like that to a pretty basic question.
-
Rush is working on long snapping too. I bet he ends up bouncing around for a few years if he wants to.
-
It's a reasonable question. As reasonable as asking the OC about the number of TD's or points scored or asking the QB coach about the number of TD passes thrown. There are a lot of variables involved with all stats in pretty much every sport. But like someone already said, this is exactly why having press availablity for assistants is dumb. The media and the coaches can't handle it well enough to have anything meaningful come of it. It'll just end up being a backbiting session, trying to play offense vs defense, position groups against each other in the blame game.

Chris Walby converted from DL to OL midseason during a game? Edmonton and Calgary both won games last season with Eddie Steele and Quinn Smith playing offensive line.
-
Calgary literally had DL playing OL last season, among a crew of rookies and very young players with no huge pedigree (Bergman, Wilson etc). I know we love Bob Wylie, but the excuses are getting pretty thick. He hasn't had a lot to work with here, realistically he still doesn't.
-
And realistically they need to throw the ratio out of the window when it comes to OL. I'd much rather have Feoli-Gudino on the field than Darvin Adams if it means Willy actually has a chance to get his eyes downfield and make a read. Many games last season (particularly against Edmonton and Hamilton) where he literally couldn't get his eyes downfield at all because Picard and Neufeld blocked no one. Our "starting" OL configuration was by far the worst of the groups we saw in the 2 pre-season games.

I'm not seeing what you guys are with Butcher. He looks like a major project to me. Obviously he's got some things that can't be taught being his size and relatively athletic, but he gets almost no penetration through his gap and gets moved around because he comes straight up out of his stance. He's not playing against CFL quality OL when he's in for the most part either. I don't think he has much of a role to play this season. He needs time. TBH, I'd flip him to OL because he's a lot closer to being ready there in terms of his first few steps out of his stance. Against this level of competiton it looks like he's going to be more of a hold ground guy than a gain ground guy, and that's what OL is.
-
Neufeld is getting turnstiled. He's rarely getting a body or even hand on the DE opposite him and there's nothing fancy going on in terms of blitzes. He's getting out of his kick step way too fast (likely because he knows he's too slow) and chasing, turning his hips and tossing Willy to the wolves. Get worried...

Played SAM just fine last year when he got in and this year so far. He's a hybrid player, maybe you're thinking of someone else? Burnett can cover. I think there are a lot of guys ahead of him though. He's going to make it for special teams more than D.
-
I'm not a fan of Anderson's running style. He does too much lateral running. Flanders is more one cut and get upfield, which is key in zone blocking. Anderson is only going to make it as a kick returner IMO, and I think we probably have a few options ahead of him there.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
JuranBoldenRules replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The CFL is nothing like those leagues. The CFL is competing for players. It doesn't need to create more roadblocks for itself. How do you implement a salary grid? Are all players new to the CFL subject to it, or just draft picks? Do you expect a guy who has spent maybe 2-3 years in the NFL and is in his late 20s to agree to the same contract as a guy from Kansas State-Cornhole D3 who is 22 years old? Just doesn't make sense. The CFL needs to do things to make the league more attractive to prospective players, not less. Restricted free agency for players coming off their first contracts would make sense. -

I really doubt the CFL does that. I don't know what the CFLPA would think, but I think managers wouldn't go for it anyway. You're competing with the NFL for a lot of these players too. Think of a guy like Corney. If he had to take a certain contract and didn't necessarily like it, he might skip training camp and wait around for a NFL shot. This situation is just a bully trying to get a rookie to take a discount. Don't think it's a trend. -

I don't see Adams being much of a pro QB anywhere. He doesn't have a very good arm. He struggled with basic drills in a QB camp hype piece I watched that he was a part of on NFL Network. They couldn't even make him look good. Accuracy is a concern. I also think he's one of those guys who thinks he'll come up to the CFL and get to play right away (likely part of the reason behind this trade). If he doesn't check that attitude he won't make it through the season. -
Glen Johnson upset fans, media are so hard on refs
JuranBoldenRules replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The decline has been steeper under Johnson's watch. He's done the opposite of what he said he would. He's made the job of the officials more difficult and complicated. Adding replay to subjective calls hasn't helped at all. -
I'd only put Bucknor on the field if the opposition promises to keep one receiver outside the far hashmarks. I honestly don't see how he makes this team. Wonder if he even gets to training camp. If he's not starting there's not much cake to having him on the roster because there are loads of guys ahead of him special teams-wise.

Royal Blue uniforms are officially back!!

Wish we could get a regular road jersey. Not a huge fan of the shoulder strips. -
I feel ill after one Five Guys burger. Could think of better cheat meals LOL.

Loffler has barely played since he left high school, only 2 seasons out of 5. Waggoner played 42 games of D1 and was an all-conference player.

hefney signs 1-day contract, retires a bomber
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That was 09 against Montreal. The punt return where Jovon ran completely across the field twice and Hefney made a block coming back to get him the edge. -
So far Walters has drafted useless receivers because they have nice testing and CIS numbers. If he drafted a useless receiver who could play special teams that would be an improvement. Draft solid football players, have a good football team. Draft projects, stay in neutral.

hefney signs 1-day contract, retires a bomber
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
He didn't refuse to play SAM. He said when asked by the media that he's an all-star at weak side HB and the secondary as a unit was likely weaker with him at SAM. He played SAM in the next game in Toronto and played how he always did. -
Bombers mini camp in Wpg Apr 25-27 open to public
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I wonder how much evaluation they could actually do with no ability to have 1 on 1 battles for receivers and OL. More of a check in on mental reps and seeing what kind of shape they are in.
