Lawless article on officiating and rule changes
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What he said.^ For one, stop adding rules every off-season. Hand in hand with that, focus on the basics. I honestly don't understand what Glen Johnson's job is. To come up with random ideas that he can put out there every off-season to remind everyone that he still exists and works for the CFL? Product has suffered under him. -

Do you forget that there are 4 downs when you're watching American football? I honestly don't believe it could be much worse. There are dozens of basic rule application mistakes made by guys who have been officiating Canadian football forever. Might be good to have some fresh eyes and people who aren't over confident in their knowledge of the game. Unless there is a path to high NCAA or NFL I don't see many good refs being interested in working in Canada though. -
Jones willing to take offers for #1 draft pick
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Don't really see the value. Most of the guys you'd trade up to #1 for are going to be kicking around the NFL for a few years. Bombers need players now. More likely to trade picks for players than vice-versa. Would like to trade up to 3-4-5 for Timmis with picks though. -

Disagree. Coaches have the same amount of challenges. Pretty much everything that can be seen on video should be able to be challenged. Otherwise get rid of it entirely. Just need to apply a commonsense rule to get the call right from the command centre. -
Around The League Off Season Discussion
JuranBoldenRules replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
He'd have almost no chance of seeing the field on offence for the Argos. They are fulfilling the ratio almost entirely on defence and OL, with Coombs and Durie too. -
No it doesn't. Teams could dress an entire team of Canadians if they wanted to. The restriction is on the imports, not the Canadians. It's reversed. If the current ratio was in on play on an American team, they couldn't dress a team full of Americans. That's why it violates anti-trust. It has to be a open market (lots of hockey teams in America with few Americans on them) or the restriction has to favour Americans.
-
Canadians are foreigners in America. Forget it's football for a second. You're starting a business in America with a mandate to employ a certain number of foreign workers without making those jobs available to Americans. That's not going to fly in any developed country.
-
Supply and demand is a cruel reality, especially for imports. If you don't like the way your contract is structured, blame your agent.
-
It's a proven fact that no CFL team has ever cut a good player.
-
Is there a CFL field that doesn't have soccer markings now? I think every CFL stadium has either a pro team or CIS team playing soccer in it.
-
The Canadians left are awful, and a lot of awful guys have already been signed out of desperation like Keeping. Basically every Canadian OL who hit the market this year is a centre, generally guys who can't block well enough to play any other position on the line. Keeping is at least a reasonable athlete although we'll be in big trouble if he has to play anywhere but centre. A guy like Norman is a total slob who has basically rode his couch right out of the CFL. You're going to see a lot more teams going with 3 imports on the OL.
-
Is he six years old?
-
He also had Ken Miller telling him to sack up and call a play from a different part of the chart from time to time. I don't know if O'Shea will have any influence on the offence or if they are planning to fully turn it over to Lapolice. I think Lapolice as a play caller needs someone to give him a kick in the pants towards trusting his players and being a little more aggressive from time to time. Otherwise he calls an offence that is not very diverse and struggles to adjust in game.
-
And it was basically just confusion on the new rule too. They can place the ball on either hash or dead centre, he continued to struggle when placing them on a hash. On actual FGs the ball is scrimmaged from where the previous play ended, could be anywhere on or between the hashes. Kickers would have plenty of experience kicking from the centre of the field.

ANDREW HARRIS: A Homer to Believe In
JuranBoldenRules replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Make a big move at the draft to grab Mercer Timmis, go with 3 import OL and our offence is set personnel wise. Limiting factor would be Lapolice's love for QB draws and field goals over touchdowns. -
Adams is already playing the boundary, which is arguably the most important spot in the secondary depending on the offence you're against. Also think if our defensive scheme is set up anything like it was last season with the MLB playing more in a gap than in space, Bass is in the right place at WIL.
-
And you'd probably have a hell of a time trading Bryant for a useful non-import player too. And the chances of Bourke signing anywhere in the West were almost nil. Basically every team in the East would have had to take a pass on him.
-
You're living in fantasyland.
-
Sounds like the BC Lions defense the last couple years. Mismatches all over the place vs the pass.
-
Hefney is done. Neck injury last season.
-
I think that there's a very good chance that Bucknor or Kohlert gets dealt/cut for $$$ reasons.
-
I don't know about that. They are probably pretty tight. You still have to replace some guys too, like Washington. Smith, Harris and Dressler are at least 500K. Moore covers one of them. The other two are significant $$$ adds over the guys in those spots last season. You've got about 100k in the trade-off of Picard to Goossen (who re-signed to a bigger deal too). Hajrullahu, Newman and Pontbriand had insignificant salaries.
-
Hufnagel is right to a large extent. There needs to be improvement on the procurement side for the Bombers too. These signings alone won't make a huge difference. Our lines are still both below average.
-
Keeping is a mild upgrade on Picard. Centre who can't really play anywhere else. The only OL that would be useful to us out there is Andrew Jones. Our best roster still has 3 import OL starting.
-
I really don't see the Bombers going hard after more than one of the DL early, and most likely NI. Laurent and Laing are probably targets, but I don't think Shologan will get what he's looking for. He'd be a guy who signs a bit later. I'd rather go after guys like Oramasionwu or Dylan Ainsworth if they don't land one of the big fish on the DL. Solid role players who won't be overpaid, fit well with what we have on D in Westerman and Thomas. If we got two guys like that and found a good pass rusher down south we'd be set. I think in terms of both imports and non-imports we're looking at adding a running back of each designation, a couple receivers, a couple DL and a couple NI DB/LB types. There's not much out there OL-wise.
