  1. If a tailback at 4 ypc is one of your best finds, you probably deserve to be fired.
  2. I think people would like that elusive 4th impact import receiver so that there would be no justification for dressing a Bastien or a JFG.Also need guys to fill in at an adequate level at the very least. The guys we've had playing when Adams or Moore have been out were terrible.Adams is very inconsistent and prone to lazy efforts too. He's handed the opposition at least 3 picks this year just being flat out lazy on a ball. I can see why the Argos moved on.
  3. Agree but what competent players do you put in there ... Veltung for Stoudermire? Castillo for Hajrullahu? Goosen for Picard? ??? for Neufeld? Who do you have in mind? There's about 10000 football players who are pro quality looking for work south of the border. Should be able to find a kick returner who doesn't kill the team and a punter. I'd be playing 3 imports on the OL until we have a 3rd capable NI, and I'd bring in a guy who actually is a guard to play inside, not be moving guys like Capers who is a tackle, inside. Easier to hide a weaker NI player at receiver or in the DL rotation.
  4. The only problem with O'Shea is that he has too much confidence in players who are a net negative on the team. The killers this year are Stoudermire, Hajrullahu, Picard and Neufeld. Put competent players in those roles and the Bombers are easily .500 and probably nipping Calgary's heels as they have two wins on us they don't deserve.
  5. Bucknor plays way too far off the receiver. I don't know if it's because he lacks speed or what but throwing under him is easy as pie. Somehow he still manages to get burned deep too so I really don't think much of him. Not sure why he is even on this team. Surely Walters could have done better by now. It's more the deep stuff that is the concern. Field corners in zone or man always have to give a pretty significant cushion, usually 8-10 yards, to avoid getting beat deep. The routes available to that receiver far away from the QB are limited. Bucknor gets picked on a lot when teams use a lot of bunch formations and bring him into the play.
  6. Yep some people are ignoring those things...probably because they have absolutely no bearing on this conversation. You can't apply generalities across the board as if they are absolutes. You judge MOS solely on his body of work, and with the facts you have, if you are the Bombers....certainly not on historical data. If we ignore history, we're doomed to repeat it. If you ignore context, you're doomed to sound like an idiot.
  7. Bucknor is a horrendous safety. That's why Hamilton gave up on him.
  8. Payroll is lower this season than the two before, right at MLB average. Nice of MLB to schedule the Jays ALDS home games during weekday afternoons so nobody can watch.
  9. Burnett, Walker, Cone.
  10. At the very least Castillo has to come on the roster to punt. That change should have been made 6 weeks ago.
  11. That record is essentially meaningless. Kickers across the board are much better now and we had almost two decades of mediocre Westwood to start the modern era. It's the proverbial tallest midget award. Hajrullahu has cost us two wins this season directly (@ Calgary, vs Edmonton) and been a major contributor to more losses, home vs Toronto another big one. That could very well be the margin of being a near .500 team and a bunch of people losing their jobs. I suppose it's O'Shea's fault to a large degree for not putting a punter on the roster anyways.
  12. His punting has been fine. Can't blame him for crappy coverage on returns. He has continually put punts right down the middle of the field when they should be going near sidelines. You cannot blame a punter if a cover team fails to cover. Even if they kick a ball right when it should go left you should be able to compensate in coverage. In every case this year either the cover team was blocked out or did not stay in their lanes. If you stay in your lanes you rarely will get scored on.I have watched lots of teams kickers place the ball in the middle of the field or not pull of a great punt and not get scored on. This is junk. The likelihood of a kick being returned a long way increases the further away from the sideline it is because the return teams blockers come into play and the returner is making one guy miss away from having a huge seam. I'm not sure how a coverage team is supposed to adapt to an inaccurate punter. Look up and watch the kick, then run and cover? It's pro football, there's no margin for error and wasting time. In high school you cover the whole field because the kickers have absolutely no idea where the ball is going for the most part. Shouldn't have to be that way in the CFL. The kick doesn't even have to be pinpoint accurate, just anywhere inside the numbers. The Bombers coverage unit has done a good job this season despite Hajrullahu routinely misplacing the ball and out kicking coverage. He's not a punter and that's obvious.
  13. Looked to me like Nichols sacked up at halftime and was ready to play in the 2nd half. He looked like he wanted to cry in the first half. Hitting hot routes is all QB reads, the offensive coordinator can't make the reads for him.
  14. Harlequin is booked at the Pandora on Grey Cup Sunday so the CFL might be out of luck.
  15. Just a matter of who the guys chasing kicks are.
  16. It's a good thing we signed Gary Nectarine to fill in.
  17. And it sad because whether is right or wrong (to cut the coach/es) that's the reason why coach/es doesn't want to come here. Winnipeg is a coach's grave yard. I don't want us to cut coach/es and then we end up with someone worse as a replacements because no one wants to come here. I don't see it getting any worse with a different HC. Regina's the only team behind us in the standings, and they'd be tied with us if Glenn came back a week earlier IMHO.We don't fire coaches as quickly as Montreal does and they can still bring new ones in, so I don't see firing O'Shea costing us chances at bringing in a new coach. The last two times Montreal has hired a head coach they had multiple candidates around the league turn down interviews and ended up hiring Dan Hawkins and Tom Higgins, both unemployed then and since they were fired. Not the best example. Really? Who turned down interviews in Montreal? BTW: O'Shea wouldn't have got a second season in Montreal after going 1-7 in the last half of last season. Jones, Dickenson. Not sure why that matters. Montreal has been putrid in a mostly terrible division since Calvillo's career ended in 2013. Firing coaches hasn't helped, and their hires get progressively worse. Not exactly a beacon for anyone to follow unless you're trying to build a shitty football organization.

  19. And the ignore list grows...
  20. So what's your point? Are you saying that adding Muamba wouldn't improve the run defense? He'd improve the ratio situation. I don't think he's a better player than Ian Wild or Khalil Bass, but he's Canadian. I think that's likely the role he would have played in this defense, I don't think he'd do as well on the line of scrimmage as much as Hurl has been this season as the "MLB." But yes, I don't believe Muamba would make a huge impact on this team right now. His value is being a guy who is as good as most import MLB/WIL in the league and being Canadian.
  21. There's no reason why so many OL should be NI's when there are not enough of them up to the task of playing in the CFL. That just poor management that is taking far too long to adjust to the reality of the expanded rosters and more DI's.
  22. Wiecek is an idiot. I happened to catch him on 1290 on my way to work a few days ago and forgot to turn it off. He said that illegal formation shouldn't even be called if the receiver is out wide and it's a QB sneak. Idiot. Obviously the official botched the call on Friday, but formations are legal or illegal regardless of where the play goes. Why have rules at all? The Free Press and 1290 should really do themselves a favour and get someone who actually wants the job on the Bomber/CFL beat. I can't recall ever hearing/reading someone so disinterested and outright contemptuous towards what they are covering in the media ever.
  23. 5.5 ypc against in 2013. 5.5 ypc against in 2015.
  24. I find it hard to fault one official for those Bombers-Als debacles in Winnipeg in September-October 2011. Both all-time games in terms of poor officiating. That call for Carr came right after a play where he actually was interfered with and there was no call. They also completely botched the spot on the first QB sneak for the winning Bomber touchdown, Brink's entire body up to his knees was in the endzone unless he fumbled there was no chance that he wasn't in, and the Bombers never did get in.
  25. You really think the officials would overturn a call because the team penalized said they didn't actually deserve a penalty? No. And that's not what I wrote. Then what is the relevance of what you wrote?
