  1. "Friends" is a relative term. If two people know each other, that doesn't automatically make them friends. And if it does, you'd be hard-pressed to find many working relationships in the CFL that didn't start that way, with someone hiring someone else that they are familiar with. O'Shea was a senior at Guelph when Walters came in as a rookie, and they were on opposite sides of the ball (Walters was an RB at the time). They played a grand total of one season together in Hamilton. Exactly what I was going to say. If you're going to call Walters and O'Shea "friends" or "buddies," then everyone who's playing or coaching in the CFL right now are friends and shouldn't work together. It's a pretty huge leap.
  2. Veltung is injured. Willie is more of a YAC guy.Gordon is the confused one.
  3. The point is that those guys hardly played as they were "developing." When they got the chance to play, they showed that they had a base of ability to build from, even if they did struggle. Marve did the opposite.
  4. Excited to see some competent receivers and Collins return.
  5. Wiecek is a dummy. If Turner is off the roster an import defensive linemen will be added to it. Just cause the one rep he watched Thomas was in doesn't mean he's starting.
  6. There aren't even enough starters to go around. Nichols is about as good as it gets for backups.
  7. Messam has had 20 carries in a game once in his career. Most of the time he's in the 7-12 range. He's never been a feature back.
  8. Willy is making the same this year as he did last year. His new contract doesn't come into effect until next season. Usually extensions in the CFL come into effect immediately as the remaining contract is ripped up and renegotiated. Willy would be an exception if he's playing out his last contract.
  9. Calvillo wasn't nearly as brutal as guys like Marve and Marsh have been. He played on some really bad teams and was extremely young, 21 as a rookie with Las Vegas. He had a bunch of big games, clearly showing potential. His problem in his young career was consistency and injuries, not an inability to complete a pass longer than 7 yards.
  10. Except for the fact his throws have always been errant, as evidenced by his low completion percentage whenever he's seen game action. 60% completion percentage is fairly good for a rookie QB I would say my only complaint is not enough deep balls and when they did Marve's missed all of the longer throws his short throws where on the money ( except for the INTs ) Context is important. Average gain was less than 4 yards. 10 first downs. 60% completion percentage is truly lipstick on a 800 lb hog.
  11. I don't get the fascination anywhere with QB's who can't pass. That said, Montreal's been running the same 4 option plays and screen passes for 3 games. Bound to have a night like this when you do that.
  12. Sask will throw Messam at us as much as they can, we need to stop it early and hard. Messam is averaging less than 8 carries per game. My guess is because of his conditioning, that's why I said as much as they can. My other guess is that number goes up if they show any success with Messam this weekend. He's only hit 10 carries in 4 games since he joined the Riders, one was the first game in Winnipeg last season. I think the Bombers will be fine against the run. The Riders OL is really banged up too. Appreciate your point about their banged up OL but current stats I checked on the CFL official site might suggest otherwise. We're eighth in defending against the run and Sask is first in offensive run yards per game. (unless I read it wrong which I wouldn't put past me) Clark and Labatte both left the last game, hence the 10 sacks. Haven't really read any Regina media so not sure if they are playing this week or not.
  13. They have one high-priced NI. There's no way that they don't have the space for Lemon. They will have some tough decisions in the next couple off-seasons though.
  14. Tib-fib fracture and torn ACL might have something to do with it.

  16. He barely got a look from both NFL teams he was with too, which doesn't look very good. They were able to see he couldn't help them very fast.
  17. The downside is taking a roster spot from someone who might actually be a good player. Romby Bryant was here for his speed last year too, Walker is basically the Romby Bryant of running backs, minus actually having any sustained success in the league.
  18. Argos cut Mitchell Gale today too. Looked pretty good live the last couple pre-seasons.

  20. Marve can write a short story about his pro football career. Title it "How to lose a job in 2 weeks."
  21. I'm not sure that excuses how poorly Taman has managed that team, particularly the non-import side of things. They were bad even when they were healthy, and basically all their key NI's are over 30. Probably the worst move was handing Ottawa two very good interior NI DL in the Expansion Draft because they were no longer going to use NI's at that spot in Regina. Well it's the season after and they've been using two very low 2015 draft picks in a platoon in that spot, and for the most part those players are getting their asses kicked. It's a tough spot for whoever takes over, because the cupboard is truly bare.
  22. You're arguing the extreme of the other position and using the exception to prove the rule. Outside of the pass and run to Marshall vs Toronto, Marve has 3 passes over 10 yards in the last two games, with his longest being 19. You're right, he should be allowed to make mistakes sometimes and occasionally throw into double coverage, but he should also sometimes show he can throw a deep ball (20+ yards) and so far he hasn't. Like 17to85 said, he needs to show that soon.Actually, I'm arguing that Marve looks like an inexperienced QB, he's not getting much/any help from his OC and fans expectations are way too high.Marve isn't going to throw a deep ball unless it's called for him by the OC and it's his first read. There have been very few of them called in the 2 games that Marve has started. It could be that the OC doesn't think he can complete them or that the O line can't give him protection, but it's more likely that's just that's the way MB's offense works. There's no way for you to know what the reads are in any given play. That's a junk argument. In other posts you are slamming MB for shoehorning Marve into an offense built for Willy, an offense that was among the league leaders in long passing plays. Which is it? If the long ball isn't the first read, Marve isn't going to take it. Willy's a better QB and a pocket passer who gets to his 2nd maybe even 3rd read. That's the idea, not that I know what the reads are on any given play. Here's exactly what you typed, indicating your knowledge of the playcalls and what Marve's first read is: "Marve isn't going to throw a deep ball unless it's called for him by the OC and it's his first read. There have been very few of them called in the 2 games that Marve has started." FYI, the deepest receiver in a route is almost always the first read because of the time it takes to set to make that throw and get the ball there, even if that receiver is running a clearing route. If the defense is giving a free deep ball away, a QB will always take it. Marve was likely progressing through his reads, he certainly had a good amount of time on the majority of the passing plays, just too spooked to make a tough throw. He indicated that post-game with CJOB, that he needs to have more confidence in his first read. I disagree that the deepest receiver is almost always the first read. It certainly wasn't when I played way back in the dark ages. Sometimes the deep receiver is the primary. Sometimes one of the other receivers is the primary. Lots of the time the deep receiver is simply clearing for the guys underneath. That doesn't make him the primary receiver or the first read. Time in the pocket doesn't equal progressing through his reads. Too spooked to make the tough throw? How do you get that? Marve's got tons of confidence, probably more than he should have. He tried to throw into double coverage and tried to throw one across his body for god's sake. I didn't hear the CJOB post game show, so I'll take your word for it, but as I've said before, the first read isn't always the deep ball. Generally the only time the deepest guy in a route, the 2-3 guys that the QB is reading first, not every eligible, is not the first read is if you are running quick game. The only route the Bombers showed that remotely fit into that category were the 3 curls to the strong-side where Marve simply looked to his right (strong each time they ran it) and fired to the guy who was open. First time was a 8 yard gain to Gordon, second time was a Calgary TD. Highly unlikely that they'd run quick game with Marve because he doesn't get the ball out quick and trusting him to make pre-snap reads is just too much to expect from him.
  23. You've seen it? I haven't. They both leave a lot to be desired arm-wise.
  24. Yet he's still far better than Brohm. That might be the scariest part about all of this. Brohm isn't a solution to any of our problems, but him and Marve are two sides of the same shitty coin.
