  1. That's part of it. I could afford it, but I don't have much interest in being at the game unless the Bombers are in it. Now if my seat was $100, I'd probably buy it and think I can flip it if the Bombers aren't in it. When you ask me to pay $300 for a seat that's $25 per game you are effectively killing my ability to resell that seat, even at a small loss, unless the Riders are in the game. No other fanbase travels well enough. Maybe they are trying to kill that resale market, but it's killing their natural market.
  2. The last 3 Grey Cups have been priced ridiculously. Saskatchewan made some sense because they were pushing hard to be in that game and they knew they had a sellout in the bag. The last 2 have made no sense. If you are going to place the value of a Grey Cup seat higher than the value of potentially 11 games between pre-season, reg season and playoffs in any stadium, you are going to have empty seats. If they price the game as they have, there will be empty seats in almost every CFL stadium without the circumstances that happened in Regina in 2013.
  3. Lulay has been struggling for the last 2 seasons he's played. It's more than a blip.
  4. You have to admit, calgarys lb core is much more talented then ours with the exception of bass (if current trends continue) randle really ought to be back in the secondary and hurl, while coming along, is no simpson. It cant be at all shocking that we would want to add a simmons to our group after seeing how well he can ball while in ottawa. SAM or DIME or whatever they are calling it this season is a secondary position. Whoever is playing that spot has to be able to cover slotbacks, often the main target of the offense, on every down.
  5. Randle's "linebacker" spot is essentially a 3rd HB mirroring the fact that on the majority of downs offenses play 3 SB's and 2 WR's. Simmons and Bass don't really fit the profile of guys you want covering SB's all the time.
  6. Ken King has stated that it's this plan or nothing. There is no Plan B...... Maybe Quebec City will build a stadium and they can just move both teams.
  7. Which is a handful of boneheaded plays by players in almost half a season. On the whole special teams have been average to good. Take away a handful of bad kicks by Hajrullahu and Stoudermire being a dummy and they are good. Should we get a punter or be patient with Hajrullahu? I think it would be a great idea to bring in a punter and let Lirim stick to FGs... only if he's Canadian though... no use in DI-ing a guy just to punt... Sean Whyte is looking for work. He's a terrible punter. I'd be willing to use an import punter.
  8. JFG looks like a 5th receiver to me. On pace for about 350 yards.
  9. Picard and Neufeld would be a pick' em. And they'd be in the 'lead' by a wide-margin.
  10. Because then they'll move the team to Albuquerque. The whole model of pro sports on this continent right now is based on teams owning/operating their own facilities and controlling all the "revenue streams," whether they paid for that facility or not. It's absolutely gotten out of hand in many cities and it's not logical in any sense. Miami might be the best recent example with the baseball stadium.

  12. Only if Marve makes it one. So far not a concern. Tracey has 30 years in CIS and an earlier stint with the Ticats. What you're saying is about the same as saying that a guy like Rich Urbanovich couldn't coach in the CFL, even though he already has and has guest coached at 20 training camps. Just because a guy is Canadian and has experience in Canada doesn't mean he's an idiot.
  13. Well, he wouldn't have stopped the blocked punts, wouldn't have been anywhere near Jefferson last week as a gunner, Banks scored on a field return and he doesn't return kicks...so not likely.
  14. The emotional argument is about the only long-term one. There's no economic benefit on a region to having pro sports. Most of the jobs are comparable to working retail, and very few are full-time. Like Noeller says, there is the short-term benefit of building it. I fully agree with using public money in many cases, I just hate when they try to make it seem financially sensible. In reality it is tossing money into a financial black hole. Fair enough and like you said a lot of public money goes into projects that will never return that money to the public purse, just be honest. Otherwise you end up in the mess we've been stepping in for half a decade now.
  15. Basically. Also strengths and weaknesses. Better vs run or pass type stuff, or a specific role. But clearly for most guys if you can limit their snaps a bit you're going to get better production from them when they are in the game and have guys relatively fresh in the 4th quarter in terms of DL. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any DL playing more than about 3/4 snaps on either side of the border nowadays, you'd be looking at JJ Watt and guys in that echelon.
  16. Who's our boundary WR? Non-factor against the Argos. One injury and we're playing projects. Westerman has 6 of 8 sacks by our entire defensive line. Where's our import rush ends? I'd give Walters about a C+. We continue to have the same depth issues over and over.
  17. They needed a younger version of Suber? Can't cover, good tackler.
  18. Have you looked at the rosters? Thomas is in the top half of NI DL who are playing. Obviously he's not an every down guy and would only ever play that role if 2-3 injuries happened in game, so basically never. But for 25 snaps a game he's a very good player.
  19. i am not writing off the season nor am I am troll as someone suggested. However, I am concerned about where this team and this season is heading. The purpose of this post was more of a 'what if' scenario because the Grey Cup is in our back yard and I belieleve tha twhile they made big moves (picking up Stanley Bryant, Picard and re-upping Willy) that was done with a 'rebuild' in mind. How much different would this team had looked if they had gone into the offseason with a 'let's get a cup this season' and rebuild after. I know people on here like to be pragmatic and are very rational but on this bye-week with no game to talk about I thought why not pose this question. Thanks to those who have taken this post it in the good nature it was intended. Signing Picard for 200k and Bryant to a lesser extent are not rebuilding moves. Picard would be lucky if he could make it through this season, he's done. He's not going to be playing in a couple years for sure. How is that a "rebuilding" move? Just does not make sense.
  20. I don't get his point. The offense never really drove the ball after the first drive, that one was keyed by Marve scrambling. The TD was a 55 yard RB screen pass, just about the most vanilla play in the book. I never saw anything but "vanilla," and that's probably mostly due to Marve's comfort. He's not going to stay in the pocket and move through his reads like Willy does when he gets the chance from his OL. That means your intermediate and deep passing game is going to be almost non-existent. I guess putting him in a situation where he would almost surely fail is the better way?
  21. I don't understand why any famous person who isn't directly making money off of social media, like a CFL player, uses a Twitter account. There's really nothing to gain.
  22. Seems MB can't/won't/doesn't know how to adjust in the 2nd half. How many times has our O come out, looked pretty good if not great only to slow down and then come to a complete stand still as the game goes on. I get that Defenses can and do adjust. But why doesn't the Offence adjust to them as well? They do. I lean more towards the rookie QB puking his guts out and injuring his throwing hand having a huge impact. He had a hell of a time going downfield and seemed a lot less willing to both stand in the pocket and extend plays after he hurt his hand. One thing I've noticed Marve do when he hits a wall in every game he's played for us including pre-season is the chuck and duck. At a certain point the hits change how he plays.
  23. I've been told by someone who coaches football that it was a read option play, and that Marve did make the wrong read. But still.....why a shotgun snap play that has us starting so far behind the line?? That's more wrong than anything Marve did. We've all seen that shotgun play on third and short described on TV as the wrong call, because you've made it third and medium instead. It was a read option play. But with that amount of time left. I don't like the idea of giving a new starting QB an option....run it or throw it. AS in hand the ball off or drop back and toss it. No play action, no read option. The only thing that makes me hesitate calling a run play there is the amount of time left in the game. Otherwise it's a fine call. You need to give your QB options pretty much all the time, but particularly in those late game situations because defenses often guess as to what the offense will do based on their tendencies in that game and defend heavily against certain plays. You also want to call a play that your QB is very comfortable with. It was all kind of a scramble and who knows how it would have played out if Marve had more prep time that week. Probably run a similar option play with a read on one or two receivers pre-snap to see how much cushion they are being given, allowing for a quick hitter to get the first down, or if there is press coverage allowing for a deep shot.
  24. Because the defense mirrors the offense, the defense adjusts their gaps and coverages. Nobody is going to let you overload one side. That play might have worked that easy in the days before gap control, but now you'd need someone to make a mistake every down to get 5 yards.
  25. Calgary wouldn't want those guys for what they are making. I bet Simmons gets cut this week or next.
