  1. Stoudermire had some good returns, but hard to keep him out there at a gaffe per game, costing the team points with bonehead decisions.
  2. Suitor's latest thing is saying "We see you" or "I see you" when a player makes a play. For the love of god can't someone tell these people to just be natural?
  3. Maybe if he's the long snapper which could make some sense with the new coverage rules on punts.
  4. IMO Kohlert, Feoli-Gudino and probably the couple younger Canadians are far better receivers than Gordon and this point. He looked like he had no clue on how to run his routes to get open in both preseason games and definitely no clue on how to adjust his routes to get open based on the coverage being played. Natural skills for sure, but I don't think he's on the team to play this season unless there is a desperate injury situation. Also with Stoudermire I'd let him get his special teams job sorted out before I burden him with any kind of role on offense. Better to use that import spot on D. It's not like you're wasting that import spot by starting 8 Canadians, allows flexibility at DL and LB, which is needed because our DL is extremely thin on talent right now, at least keep the guys fresh so we get their best 35-40 snaps.
  5. The only chance Ottawa or Montreal have of getting out of the East is if Hamilton and Toronto both lose half their starters to injury.
  6. You've seen Johnson in game action 4 times. He was good vs BC last week, they had him playing rush end, 3 technique and off the line a little bit too. Good jump off the line, drove the OL into the pocket a few times but not a lot of effective moves. I hope Gibson is actually injured, disappointing if he's coming off otherwise. Absolutely schooled Olafioye and Draheim last week. Drew a bunch of holding penalties. DL will be thin in Hamilton, see how they hold up having to play more snaps, guys like Johnson and Collins.
  7. Hard to run when everyone in the stadium knows the quarterback can't pass. Even Suitor questioned it... They totally should of ran the ball to set up the pass. Smith has the legs and the arm, he was making good throws. The guy has the potential and did better then he should of. Sunseri clearly stinks though We must have been watching different games. Smith couldn't toss a 15 yard pass on target without taking a crow hop, and no QB will get the time to do that often. He doesn't have the arm. He can run though. He looks like a rookie version of Alex Brink. The only way you're going to have a consistent run game with a QB like that is if you bring everyone in to block and fully commit to running. No defense is going to respect his arm enough to pull their MLB or WIL out of the box.
  8. Hard to run when everyone in the stadium knows the quarterback can't pass.
  9. If it's going to cost in the same ballpark just to have the subsidies for lower income families, I'd rather have a universal system. The problem of lack of available service is just as bad as the cost of it right now. Generally the more people make the more tax they pay, another thing the next government needs to address as it's been clawed at by the Cons a bit, so they will carry a heavier burden in terms of paying for services. The single mom making $30,000 is not going to pay much in the way of federal taxes that she won't see back in tax benefits, so really those people with kids making more money will be subsidizing her family. $100,000 combined is not all that much anymore either.
  10. The subsidized child care program has been a complete bust in Quebec. First, all of the daycares unionized, and implemented rigid working hours, meaning that they weren't even open during periods when less financially advantaged people had to work, like shift labour, so only people with day jobs could take advantage, which tended to be the more wealthy. And then of course, the costs were far greater than even the most conservative estimates. Mulcair says that his plan will cost $5 billion per annum. Better double that, just as a start. $10 billion a year - that's a huge pill to swallow. There can only be one reason that Mulcair is pushing for subsidized daycare and that's because he's been told by the HEU and big labour to do it, because it will create thousands of new unionized jobs. It's not about the greater good for all, it's about the greater good for the unions, and that's why (one of the reasons) I can't stand the NDP. I guess it really depends on how the childcare system would work. Is there still a user fee or are we all just going to pay into it? Will there be spots for all children who require it? I don't know much about other provinces, but anyone at a licensed daycare in Manitoba is paying between $500-$700 per month for a pre-school aged child and $400-$500 for a school-aged child. Let's say that there are 5 million kids in Canada that need daycare and it's about $500 per kid/month right now, relatively conservative estimate given the cost of living on the West Coast and Southern Ontario. That's $30,000,000,000 (billion) that parents are paying out right now. Even if it cost $10 billion a year to have a national system you're putting a lot of money into the economy through the wallets of those parents and potentially allowing others who don't currently have their children in daycare to work outside the home if there are more affordable spots available. This kind of stuff is pretty low on my list in terms of wasteful spending done by governments.
  11. The childcare issue should be provincial IMO, part of the education system, easiest way to handle it without creating an entirely separate bureaucracy. Most existing schools either have a child care facility and room to expand or room to hold a child care facility. All new K-8 schools in Manitoba must have space for a child care facility. It's a problem that needs to be dealt with though and really something that becomes an economic issue. Might suck to have to pay for it if you're not using it, similar to school taxes, but it's getting to a point where the service available is inadequate and ridiculously expensive, potentially keeping skilled workers out of the labour market for years. One of my best friends and his wife pay $1500 a month for childcare for 2 kids! I know there are some subsidies, but I couldn't imagine how a family with two incomes making say $50,000 a year total pre-tax absorbs that. Generally people with children of that age are nowhere near their peak earnings either. I guess once we're all working at Home Depot and Wal-Mart we'll figure it out.
  12. I can't see a scenario where Taman survives to be the Rider GM by the start of next season. Just so many bad moves, granted some things he couldn't control like Heenan going to the NFL, but acquiring Shea Emry to be the ratio changer, giving away two very good NI DT's to Ottawa and then going back to having a NI DT the next season when you don't have the players to do it, giving Getzlaf a mega extension when he probably should have been the guy sacrificed to Ottawa, signing a bunch of 30+ guys off-season and in-season. Just a brutal job he's done in Regina on the things he does control.
  13. No he should lose it because of the piss poor defence he's running. The Riders had 0 wins and the #1 offense heading into last week.
  14. Lawless says he stands behind his report into the inner thoughts and desires of Brendan Taman, even though Taman himself says the opposite himself. Too bad he can't stand in front of his report so no one can see it anymore.
  15. Lost $8 million first quarter this year.
  16. What did he do? We had an issue with items we purchased in the stadium sale and also an issue with our seats in the new stadium. On two different occasions he called and said the items were ready, we had to borrow a truck to pick them up, we arrived and they were not ready. Happens once and you think ok it's an honest mistake, no way it could happen again, but it did twice. A third time he either lied or mistakenly said he had called us on another matter and ended up accusing us of lying. Needless to say I ended up dealing with someone a little more intelligent who is also no longer with the Football Club and they were able to smooth things over. I'm sure just another nail in Bannon's BB coffin. Just got the sense that he was way in over his head and instead of at least being honest and reasonable he'd turn everything on the customer.
  17. Not sure what you are referring to or watching, but Adams was far from garbage. Assignment wise was spot on with blocking, and probably has lost about 5-6 receptions (clutch ones at that) for over 100 yards due to penalties. From watching TC and games this year I would say he is the smoothest route runner on the roster, and knows how to position himself to take ball in stride and in best way to produce yac yards. I would bet by end of season he will be in top 5...at worst top 10..pretty good for the 3rd option I think Adams is a beast downfield and can win a lot of those balls and keep going. He's got a nose for the endzone too. I'd like to see him be more productive around the first down marker and fight for those balls just as hard. That's kind of what I see as a huge role for that guy playing the boundary spot generally, be a dependable target for the QB, move the chains. He's quit on most of the balls I've seen go his way in that 8-10-15 yard range and a couple have led to turnovers. It's a bit harder in that range now with everyone playing zone and having DB's coming downhill on those routes.
  18. Anything I did with the Bombers that led to me having to deal with Jeffrey Bannon. Instant regret. Almost cancelled our tickets in that 12-13 offseason mostly due to just ridiculous interactions with that goof. Unfortunately I think the Football Club still has some regrets around that too.
  19. Adams has looked good in two games and like absolute crap in the rest. Big plays or nothing so far. Veltung is a stud though. Does not look like a rookie receiver out there at all.
  20. Agreed. Glad to see some rush end types coming through and getting a chance. Hope they stick with the guys who have performed well the last couple weeks, Gibson especially. Wasn't a fan of Harlan, not a fan of Fraser either. Fraser is a good utility guy because he can play the 3 technique a bit, but no pressure and too slow to keep contain on any QB who is a threat with his legs.
  21. Not sure why it matters, but Tyler Thomas isn't Caucasian.
  22. In the moment I liked the call from Tedford to try make O'shea pay for putting them in 2nd and 18 instead of 3rd and 8 and punting. They never should have been in 3rd and 2 to go for it if O'shea made a better call the play before. The upside to accepting that penalty is up to 10 yard of field position, the downside is potentially a first down. Didn't seem like a smart move from Winnipeg at the time. Wasn't 3rd and 8. It was 3rd and less than 2 yards. The penalty was applied from the previous spot.
  23. I heard Ray was throwing 45 yard bombs in practice a few weeks ago. I'm sure he was. I'd like to see how accurate he can be with a 300 lb monster coming full speed at him along with how his shoulder holds up after contact and weeks of throwing 1000 balls a week. I highly doubt QBs throw 1000 passes per week. You ever see a time where a QB goes 5 minutes at a football practice without throwing a ball? 3-4 practices a week plus game with warmups for all. Easily throwing 200 balls a day.
  24. I heard Ray was throwing 45 yard bombs in practice a few weeks ago. I'm sure he was. I'd like to see how accurate he can be with a 300 lb monster coming full speed at him along with how his shoulder holds up after contact and weeks of throwing 1000 balls a week.
  25. I don't believe Ray will be able to do anything significant this season anyway. He's coming back from pretty much the worst injury for a QB other than being decapitated. I can't think of any QB who's returned from a torn labrum/rotator cuff and been able to play well within a calendar year. Usually ends careers. If the Argos get a good offer during this season they'd be crazy not to take it.
