  1. The big appeal of Pembina bars was how cheap they were. I was always there for $.25 draft nights. It was perfect for university students. Fixed prices put an end to that. Yeah, and the competition. LId, Monty's, Wise Guys, Beach(Scandals), Coyotes, Pemby. An enormous amount of people at bars on Pembina on the weekends. And they'd shift based off a $0.25 price change. If we had a friday dying, we could lower price a quarter and boom, we were packed. The minimum pricing thing was a scam. Before minimum pricing, people would go to the bar at 7:00 because it was so cheap. After minimum pricing, people didnt go out til 10 because it was cheaper to pick up a case or mickey from the LC and pre-drink at home. And that was the point of minimum pricing. No one drank less. There were not less people getting black out drunk. That kid died because of a failure on the part of himself, his friends and the bar. We used to have $0.75 shooters, $1 shots. On weekends when prices were higher we'd still have "Saturator Saturdays" with triples for $3. It was mostly a liability issue for the people holding the license and the MLCC. I can't think of a place in Canada I've traveled in recent years that doesn't have those minimums now, even Alberta. We used to go to Banff every year and each night there was a different special at a different bar, quarter drafts, dollar highballs. Not anymore.
  2. Big assumption there is that we have 4 healthy import receivers who are better than the NI's. We don't. Also the "starting" 8 NI's doesn't limit how they use the imports at all.
  3. Both BS. Our D has actually been somewhat dominant since Collins went into the lineup. Not enthused to see all the guys who made up an extremely mediocre DL back in the lineup together.
  4. He's played what, 4 games? And cost his team 2 TD's on turnovers that were 100% on him, plus a single that should have never happened, then wasted 10 seconds and lost yards in one point game. That's far too many huge negative plays from a returner. If he's going to cost the team points, it doesn't really matter if he has a couple good plays.
  5. Sucks that their only practice this week was interrupted by weather. Hopefully the mental reps work for Marve.
  6. Mostly this, basically work your way towards the QB as a group, stay in your rush lane. I've seen teams put their DT's out wide and quicker guys inside against QB's who like to throw outside the pocket, the Bombers D this season has done that vs Collaros and Lulay. Also will likely see a lot more 3-4 man rush with a couple guys spying and blitzing/dropping into zone on a delay.
  7. And really, Calgary has gone through about 20 DL in the last 5 years and they've all been dominant. Ditto Edmonton, Hamilton. Toronto's brought in several good ones. We can't even find one guy who's good at getting after quarterbacks consistently, even if that's all he can do like an Odell Willis. Westerman is doing OK, but we have no one who gets into the pocket, his sacks are motor sacks mostly out of the pocket, most on Collaros. Gibson has looked good but apparently can't last 2 games in a row.
  8. He's been with BC the last two years, demoted to receivers coach from OC.
  9. It is unfortunate Marve is forced to work within an archaic offence that is designed for a 3-step-drop pocket passer. Hopefully Marcel tweaks the playbook to Marve's strengths, actually its similar to what Mike Riley faces in re-tooling things at Nebraska O: http://hailvarsity.com/news/hot-reads-the-past-present-future-of-dual-threat-qbs/2015/02/ Bellefeuille prefers mobile QB's, there's no doubt about that. He spent 3 seasons trying to replace Kevin Glenn with Quinton Porter, they started 09 with Porter starting over Glenn. Porter could never take the reins, but every year Bellefeuille was head coach in Hamilton he gave Porter more opportunities than he deserved to win the job. The archaic offence stuff is getting a little stupid too. Let's get at least 80% of our offensive line looking like they belong in the CFL. There's no play call that's going to compensate for a centre and guard being completely useless on any given snap.
  10. I hope we see the dink and dunk stuff because that means he can read a defense and take what's available, not force the ball into danger and try to do too much, often leads to turnovers and 2 & outs. 1st down yardage will be huge.
  11. The end should always hold the edge on an option or zone read, force the play inside to where there are more players to finish the play. Just tugs at the instinct to chase the ball.
  12. Good call. He worked well with Marve in pre-season too. Wonder who will end up playing the boundary WR. Could be like last season where Moore, Denmark and Kohlert all took turns there. Key spot for a guy like Marve who will be on the move.
  13. Walters is on the clock IMO. The level of import talent on this team is poor relative to the rest of the league, and we don't have depth at positions that shouldn't be hard to fill like receiver and defensive line.
  14. Maybe Marve has some chemistry with Jhomo Gordon, but Gordon sure looked clueless in terms of where he needed to be to make himself an option for the QB in the pre-season. Not a reliable target for a green QB. At least he'll have Moore, Denmark, Kohlert, Feoli-Gudino who are pretty solid technicians.
  15. Even 10 pounds lighter Turner is not undersized as a 3 technique. Most of them are in the 255-280 range, and the guys on the heavier end are significantly taller than Turner. The guys they have replacing him are around the same height and 10 pounds lighter than him. I don't think his poor play has much to do with weight, I don't think he's played well for the last 2 seasons and he's always been a far better pass rusher than gap filler vs the run.
  16. I think that's a pretty apt comparison. You gotta qualify it a bit though, Bishop who won games in Regina and Winnipeg was a more refined passer still with many shortcomings. I'd compare Marve more to Bishop early 2000s with the Argos. At that point Bishop was a huge runner too. I'm thinking a typical Marve statline will be 19/35 230 yards 1 TD 2 INT and 60 rushing yards. He'll probably have the odd spectacular game, but he'll need a lot of help from special teams and defense to win games.
  17. This makes no sense. What difference does it make where your QB's came from? I care more about how they play. McManus also did nothing as a Blue Bomber and had a hall of fame career as a "castoff" playing for other teams. Kind of kills your whole idea, doesn't it?
  18. Exactly we are 0-3 against the best two teams in the league only have to face Edmonton once more at home. 3-1 against the rest of the league. If we can win 7 or 8 games in the next eleven, we should make the playoffs. I doubt that a 9 and 9 season even with crossover potential gets us there with three teams in the east already with 4 wins. Gonna have to start counting the free squares on the bingo cards to see what our chances are for the post season. Too many divisional games left in the East. There won't be more than two teams above 9 wins.
  19. Nick Moore. I'm talking more about the RB position. Cotton will be out definitely. So I'm guessing Marshall will be the starter. We carried 2 import RBd since Day 1, so who will be the 2nd RB this Friday? Moore will probably be back this week and I'm hoping Adams is good so they can go 4 Imp rec. Normand for Bastien. Moore for Cotton. I'd only put a 2nd import RB on if Stoudermire is coming off the roster. Marshall has shown over the last three weeks that he can handle being an every down back, Normand can play a few snaps and be available if Marshall goes down. I think they'll put Scott on though.
  20. Willy has pass rushers in his face by the time he gets the ball in the games vs Hamilton and Edmonton over and over again. That's just poor OL play. You can't even tell what the playcall is on most of those plays because Willy is running for his life or being taken to the turf before anything develops, he has no chance to get his eyes downfield. Flipping to quick game wouldn't matter if your QB isn't even given the time to set and throw from the time the ball is snapped. Even against BC who didn't have a great pass rush he was making a lot of throws with Picard being blown back right into him off the snap. Picard's not even smart enough or willing to tie the play by hitting the dirt. Realize your limitations. The TD to Adams vs BC is a good example, Willy tossed that bomb just with his upper body because he had no chance to step into that throw with Picard in his lap. If you have 2 guys on the field who can't block anybody and make mental mistakes on top of that, the rest of your offence has no chance to do anything consistently. Laurent and Hall didn't even have to steamroll Picard or Neufeld on many snaps yesterday, they just straight up came out of their stance and surged through their gap without as much as a speed bump to hurdle. How the hell does that happen on the inside? Those guys aren't even extra rushers, they are the freaking DT's! Those guys are accounted for first and foremost in the protection. Picard is here as a veteran presence, he's never been able to block CFL DL, he's been a reliable snapper. His snaps have been terrible this season and there are tons of mental breakdowns on his OL. Is Goossen that bad? This needs to be addressed ASAP if they have any aspirations of winning more than 6-7 games this season, because even as the rest of the team gets better, that OL, the C and LG spots in particular, are going to hold everything back.
  21. You left out the three TD passes... Once you realize that Ham offence barely had the ball in the first quarter, those are good numbers. Two of our sacks were only because Collaros was looking end zone in the last minute of the half Where was Hamilton on the field when those plays happened? Pretty sure they weren't reaching the endzone, even if they could have pulled Michael Bishop off his couch for those two plays.
  22. The OL couldn't put more than 2 decent plays in a row together. Limiting factor on this offense, doesn't matter if they bring in Mike McCarthy or Dave Dickenson or Vince Lombardi to call the plays. Bellefeuille has a history in the league so you can judge him on that, but hard to judge the job he's doing here just because that offensive line is so awful. When your QB has a guy like Laurent two steps away from him by the time the snap is in his hands it doesn't matter if it's a screen, shovel pass, or what hot routes he's called pre-snap, the play is over.
  23. Couldn't be any worse.
  24. If there's a ratio change that involves having Greaves, Picard and Neufeld on the field at the same time our quarterbacks won't be able to afford their life insurance premiums. We need some better import talent before it's even an issue. Kashawn Fraser isn't better than Jake Thomas or Ivan Brown. Pull Danny Mac away from the lounge and his schooner. Time to get to work.
