It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
JuranBoldenRules replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Crazy to me that Smith plays over Sunseri. Sunseri at least gives them some hope of having an offence, they wouldn't even call a passing play for Smith in the 4th Q vs Hamilton. Seems very personal with Chamblin and Sunseri. -
"There is nothing Marve can show in practice this week"

You want Wild covering slotbacks all game?

"There is nothing Marve can show in practice this week"
JuranBoldenRules replied to bb1's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
In this case, it's Wiececk's verbage and not a quote from O'Shea himself.Did you miss where he says Oshea said this?Man do you need to be there to believe? Are the reporters twisting and lying now to make Oshea look bad? It's Wiecek's interpretation/summation of what O'Shea actually said, which was that Marve hasn't been able to take reps for 2 weeks. -
Pocket passing QB is so yesterday
JuranBoldenRules replied to Doublezero's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Same for BLM and Reilly. The Eskimos move the pocket a lot and have a lot of designed QB run plays, but Reilly isn't doing a lot of improvising. Really I think this is backwards. With the amount of stuff that QB's have to run through pre-snap now, if you can't throw from the pocket you just won't last. People complain about guys locking into their first read, but 95% of the reading of the defense is done by the time the QB has the ball. There are guys who scramble, but they can throw from the pocket too, although a guy like Collaros really struggles when teams keep him in there all night, the Montreal game is a good example. His arm isn't in the same league as Willy, Reilly, Harris, BLM. I also think that all QB's can run now. There isn't a QB in the CFL that is a pure pocket passer, even Glenn and Ray will take off and run for a first down a couple times a game to keep a defense honest. 20 years ago QB's were more scrambler or pocket passer. -
They have been awful, and led to a lot of scrambling/hurries (combined with Picard getting carried to Willy) because Willy has to take that extra second to get control of them taking his eyes off the route where they should be. Let Picard wear a golf shirt and be OL mentor, around in case of injury. Goossen can't be worse, time to let him play. Neufeld for Greaves is truly a rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic situation. Let's hope we aren't counting on either one to help us next season.

"There is nothing Marve can show in practice this week"
JuranBoldenRules replied to bb1's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You guys do realize that there is only one practice this week, right? -
I don't think Bellefool has the imagination to run an offence like that. He did in Hamilton. Remember Marcus Thigpen? Can't remember if it was 2009 or 2010 but Hamilton basically won a game against us because our defense had no answer for Thigpen and I think Cobourne, maybe Cobb, in split backs both running and passing.

Considering how little the team wins that's a hollow claim. Context being after decades of incompetence people around here understandably get pissed off after losses. Listen to cjob post game. You and other self proclaimed level headed posters are the vast minority. Head in sand works for some, I guess. If you truly think callers to talk radio represent the majority of anything you're killing your own credibility.

Our offensive line is not better, it's more expensive for sure. Our quarterback is moving the ball out faster when he isn't picking a snap off the top of his cleats. Our offensive line is pathetic. We have two guys who either aren't able to or just aren't doing their jobs in terms of blocking in Greaves and Picard. Chungh works really hard and has lots of potential, but still learning. Tackles have been good, but doesn't matter much when your interior is getting blown back into the QB's throwing motion a dozen times a game. Having watched Picard for years I believe he now has negative value when he's on the field. The best thing about him was always his consistent snapping, and now that's not so hot either. He's always been SOL if he gets isolated by a DT. Our running backs are mostly on their own, if they are lucky our 5 OL can handle the 3-4 guys in the first level.

Other Games Thread Ott/Cal BC/TO Sask/Ham
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I've been a Bomber fan for some 40 plus years and I've been there through good seasons and bad. With that experience, it gets easier to see when a team is going though a rough stretch and with little hope for improvement in the short term. By the way, I was complimentary to the 'Cats as well, but they have not been the subject of ridicule in this forum as the Riders have. I was comparing the effort and execution of the Riders to the Bombers in their most recent games, and that is a valid comparison. The Riders looked as resigned to the fact they were going to lose once the game got to 28-21 as the Bombers did when Willy went down. They wouldn't even let their backup QB throw the ball. -
Once, just once, I wish someone could write a post without creating facts to justify the narrative floating around in their head.

Team Losing Because Of Coaching Decisions
JuranBoldenRules replied to TransconaBomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Only two decisions I really have an issue with are having Picard on this team as a player when we have a guy who is ready to play, who might actually be able to block someone in Goossen and the amount of zone our D plays once the other team is in the score zone. Basically a guaranteed TD if you can get there against the Bombers. -
I agree. I never want coaches to bring in people they are comfortable working with. Once they learn each other's wives names, it's time to move on.

For the sanity of the board…….
JuranBoldenRules replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If you've ever been to a practice and seen how attentive the media are it would be hard to call out O'Shea for not telling the truth based on Irving's "observations." Do people really think there's a Marve conspiracy? If they didn't like him he wouldn't be on the team. -
There are many factors. The worst one at IGF is drainage and where moisture collects. Concrete is poured to handle a certain capacity as well, it's not all the same. They actually had to do a bunch of cutting and re-pouring work on the concrete to get their occupancy permit before the first events at IGF because of the faulty design, not enough egress or capacity to handle eqiupment that had to be moved across it. So there was a rush to pour concrete in many areas of the building.

Cuthbert is having a rough start to this season. A few times in each game I've watched he's been caught by Suitor bellowing about why a coach isn't challenging when it's a scoring play or turnover or misunderstanding a rule and bellowing about it. Best thing any PBP guy can do is stick to PBP.

Did Marve lose his short-yardage job?

Special teams was atrocious
JuranBoldenRules replied to Arnold_Palmer's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Oh did he? I thought it went over his head. Either way it was just plain bone-head. He was snake-bit that entire game. Yep, and at that point he should have recovered it ASAP, but he flubbed it again and we were about a half second away from the Calgary cover guys having a shot at a free TD. Just a real stupid game for him all around. -

I was going to bring that up. So the refs blow it and call the Paredes convert good when it clearly missed, so thankfully it gets taken back by the Command Center on review and now it's 16-15 Bombers. Then on the next play, Paredes kicks it off and the ball goes over Stouds head and is rolling quickly out of the back of the end zone. Instead of just letting it roll out, Stouds picks it up and walks out the back of the end zone, thus conceding a single point, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. If he had just let the ball roll out on its own, no point. I get that LH missing the convert was big, but if Stouds had just let the ball roll out on that kick-off, Calgary wouldn't have gotten a point. It was just stupid. I was yelling at the TV "NO!!!!" when he picked it up two yards from the end line as it was rolling out. My father in law, the Lions fan, who never misses a chance to rub it in, said "Winnipeg coaches need to tell their kick returners about the rules on kick-offs. Clearly that guy doesn't get it." I just sighed. Something I've become very good at over the years. Stouds just committed too many stupid mistakes in that game. Veltung has my vote as the kick returner going forward. Stoudermire had already touched the ball trying to catch it around the Bombers 6 yard line. He shouldn't have tried to catch that kickoff at all. -

JuranBoldenRules replied to Arnold_Palmer's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
On the last FG sure, but missing that convert after the offense puts 6 on the board to respond to Calgary's only big drive of the game is unforgivable. That is his fault, and only his. No one seems to be calling out Paredes for missing a convert... I don't care about Paredes, I care about the Bombers. -
