They've got just as much depth as most other teams. If you're comparing them to the Alouettes, Ticats or Stampeders, yeah they're worse and they got a worse ranking. But if you compare them to the teams below them, including BC and Winnipeg, I think it's a fair ranking. Unless you think the Bombers have fantastic depth all of a sudden But I'm not quite ready to believe that.... I think the Bombers absolutely have more depth in terms of guys that are actual CFL level players. Inexperience is a factor. Beyond their starters the Riders don't have much, and many of their starters have lost entire seasons or nearly entire seasons to injuries already in their careers. If they have two season-ending or miss more than half a season type injuries among those guys they are in major trouble, like get Paris Jackson on line 1 trouble. I believe the Bombers could more easily absorb NI injuries. Montreal is also way overrated because of the NI tackles. Beyond that, they are very thin and their interior OL isn't that good.

Yantz doesn'st feel he was given a fair shot
JuranBoldenRules replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
maybe a situation of agree to disagree, Marve should have been competing with Brohm for #2, and portis vs Yantz, who ever didnt win the #2 then compete against the winner of Portis vs Yantz for #3. loser of that get PR. With willy the undisputed #1, Preseason game 1 goes 1st quarter: Brohm (or marve) 2nd quarter: Marve (or Brohm) 3rd quarter: Portis (or Yantz) 4th quarter: Yantz (or Portis). preseason game 2 1st half: Willy 3rd quarter: #2 4th: quarter #3 at least your giving ALL the QBs you invited to camp a shot, only guys who dont get 2 quarters of play is your #4 and #5 but they at least get a quarter to show what they got I'd rather they focus on getting the team ready for the season than making sure a guy who probably has the ceiling of a #3 QB in the CFL a fair shot. -
Odds and Sods.....X2 Game, Hamilton at Winnipeg
JuranBoldenRules replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
He needs to learn how to pass. It's just way too easy to defend him now. After a couple runs, Hamilton started using a delayed blitz, filling all the gaps up front and daring Marve to make a good throw from the pocket. That is what will happen if he doesn't progress, everyone knows what's coming. -
Unamba stunk in coverage last season when he played WIL where he had far less space to cover than he would at SAM. I'd be very disappointed if he played SAM, need someone way better in that spot. If Unamba is on the roster it's to chase kicks and sub in here and there. If he's starting anywhere in the secondary we're SOL.

Well, there are a fair number of OL available. Rockhill cut by Hamilton too. Haidara a bit of a surprise.
-
No. He's just a softer, less athletic version of Richards. Not sure why so much hype. I was shocked the Riders didn't cut him last pre-season.

Pre-season- Game 2 - HAM @ WPG
JuranBoldenRules replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Have you seen any of those anywhere in the league yet? Real games haven't started. -
What's the status on Billy Peach? Riders released Vonk... Jas Dhillon was cut by the Argos.
-
I wonder if the Bombers bring in another NI OL relatively soon, like the next couple weeks. One of the guys on the 46 goes down and Tommy Griffiths is the 6th OL.
-
Veltung looked a lot better as a receiver than as a returner in the pre-season games. Had no idea what to do on punts and let balls hit the turf.

Gary's left his NHL brain on. Doubt it. Looks like Neufeld was put on the 6 game IR. Cap is nearly meaningless in this round of cuts and at this time of year. It's not tabulated until after the season, unlike the NHL where teams need to have a roster than fits under the cap prorated each game, and it's not a hard cap either way. -

It's 2 am and cuts still haven't been announced?

Pre-season- Game 2 - HAM @ WPG
JuranBoldenRules replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Stanley Bryant looked like he was playing his first CFL game. Only a couple sacks, but Willy took about 4 full throttle shots. Lots of miscommunication on the left side of that offensive line. That's my biggest concern headed into the season. Punt returns look like they are going to be an adventure to start the season. Rule changes having little effect beyond the convert, which is still stupid IMO. Once a few teams lose games on PAT's, the conversation around that rules committee table will change. The punt change is meaningless because other than the snapper the rest of the guys on the line have always stayed in until the ball is gone. Teams are adding extra guys on the outside of the 5 who have to stay to counteract. The no contact beyond 5 yards on pass plays is not being enforced anywhere near the way it was touted. -
[MERGED] Pre-Season Game 2 (Depth Chart etc)
JuranBoldenRules replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You think they will have Normand at RB? When they drafted him I was hoping he could be the "thunder" back that everyone keeps mentioning. He's a similar size to Messam, might be useful to wear down defences and then change pace with either Cotton or Anderson (whoever is left standing after cuts). What do you think? I think Normand is going to end up being more of an H-Back type. I think the Bombers will have Cotton and Marshall on the roster to start the season. -
Boy, you really don't like that guy. That same statement could be made for a number of NI players throughout their careers. Yep, applies to a lot of guys, and speaks to the desperation to find NI's. I'd love it if Neufeld became a fixture here, but IMO he'd be in tough whether he's healthy (relative because he's already had a leg snapped) or not. I haven't seen anything that warrants the "if he were only healthy he'd be a stud OL for us" talk.
-
Neufeld is following the easiest path to a nice pay cheque and being vastly overrated as a football player. Be a Canadian, play a few games without being an unmitigated disaster, get injured, profit financially and in how people view your abilities.
-
Sounds like a lame excuse to me. There's a jumbotron feed and internet access. Same as Varsity.
-
I don't know how you can praise Neufeld while ripping Swiston. Short of one season when Neufeld got a bunch of starts at tackle in Regina with a tight end or fullback glued to his butt in pass protection, there is no difference between them in their CFL careers. Can't stay healthy, both struggle when playing inside because they are natural tackles but not quite quick enough to be good ones in the CFL. I was never a fan of the move to acquire Neufeld. We basically gave away a guy with value and downgraded a draft pick for an overpaid and overrated player with a career-threatening injury. Helped out the Riders in a lot of ways.

Who's the last experienced NI the Bombers signed as a free agent who actually met or exceeded expectations? Mike Abou-Mechrek? -
It was safe to assume that the day they picked him.
-
I'm guessing that you must have missed watching him last season, because he got more than a few reps there. Suffice to say that he impressed them so much that they immediately went out and hired Glenn. No thanks What I saw last year is why I'd be interested. Average CFL QB in his second season last year, some good (good enough arm, good mobility, good command of what's going on around him on the field), some bad (tendency to lock on first read and trouble moving through reads), but a solid base to build from with a guy who is relatively young and can already give you a chance to win if he's needed. At some point Chamblin decided he wasn't the guy and went with Joseph, gifting the Eskimos a playoff win, but hey he did the same thing with our MLB.
