That's ridiculous considering the way he played last year and so far in TC. If anything, Brohm should be the odd man out, or relegated to third or fourth stringer duty. He's completely immobile and lacks accuracy. There's nothing about him that's attractive except a strong arm. I obviously don't share the same confidence in how well Marve reads defences as you do, or how good he's looked in TC...in training camp. This is why he has to show progress in any chance he gets in pre-season games. Listen, I like the way Marve ad-libbed his way through his playing time last year, but I don't want my QBs to always be scrambling to make plays if he's missed his reads. Marve wants to leave next year, and if Portis and Yantz show well in their time, it wouldn't bother me to see Marve leave earlier. If hes always running for his life then ya its a problem. But hes not a pocket passer so maybe his reaction to what he sees is different and wants to move to make time or get himself in a better position. Quarterbacking doesn't really work like that. Everything is based on when he's throwing the ball and where he's going to be throwing the ball from. There are designed rollouts, "scrambles," and there's just flying by the seat of your pants which is mostly what Marve did last year. When it works it's exciting, like driving full speed towards the edge of the cliff and then slamming on your brakes before you go off the edge. When you go off the edge, it's not that exciting. Over the long haul it's not really a sustainable way to run an offence because it is extremely easy to defend, and that's why the vast majority of the scrambling QB's who can't really move the ball with their arm from the pocket fizzle out pretty quickly. I need to see Marve make some plays in the pocket before I get excited about him as a legit CFL prospect.

He hit 90% of his FG attempts last season. Unless he had a leg amputated this off-season, it's a bad decision. -
Would be interesting to see if Hajrullahu got an NFL shot. Rare for Canadian placekickers to get one out of the CFL in the last while.

Essentially cutting a NI kicker who hit 90% of his kicks last year in favour of an import before a pre-season game is played is a pretty bad start. -
Korey Banks sues the CFL for $200 million

All the benefits stuff is collectively bargained. It's his fault/his agents fault for not knowing what benefits he has, had and doesn't or didn't have. I'm also not sure how the CFL suppressed his right to research the effects of concussions. Blocked Google? You can't sue somebody based on your own ignorance. The only relevant piece of this action is the stuff about independent medical staff. -
If it gets to that point teams are just going to send 6 or 7 at the QB and have their DB's maul the receivers off the line to slow them down so they can rock the QB. That would be a disaster for the league IMO. I hope it doesn't take a rash of major QB injuries to get them to come to their senses.

Strange that anyone has any opinion really I guess.

Significant brain trauma? Concussions. -
I don't feel comfortable with Hurl being more than a role player based on what I've seen of him as a player in this league. Waggoner is a rookie too. I think between those two, Newman/Sherman you have one NI spot on D taken care of. You might have two of those guys on the field at times if the DL is all IMP in different packages.

He's only 29 years old. lol 29 years old is supposed to be an athletes prime years. Football players? Even if that's generally true, age is only part of it. Emry's going into his 8th season as a middle linebacker and he's had pretty significant brain trauma. Wouldn't call that prime. -
It was Bauming or someone else holding a TSN mic.

Burke was the worst by far. No skills at all to be a head coach. Some guys are terrible in a few areas, he was in every way imaginable.

Wiecek is everything that's wrong with unions. Without that protection, he would likely be replaced by someone who actually has some passion for the football beat. But he has enough years in that he can just go through the motions. I am a member of a union too, but if I ever become like that I hope someone puts me out to pasture.

Well, you're comparing potential millions to tens of thousands and the league they've dreamed their whole lives of playing in versus a league in Canada which might as well be the North Pole to a lot of Americans. Printing the salaries on the front page of every Canadian newspaper won't change that.
-
Their agents know, the players know.
-
They aren't, and apparently the NHL wasn't even sure where CapGeek was getting its info, but he obviously had inside contacts. There are other sites out there that have NHL salary information, like www.nhlnumbers.com , but I've heard it said that they sourced their data from CapGeek. It will be a very interesting UFA period to see if these other sites can get accurate info. If the NHL was smart, they would replace CapGeek on their own website (though I think they would need the NHLPA to agree). I know of many long term "dynasty" hockey pools that use player salaries and make people adhere to a league cap. A lot of those may have to change how they do things if salaries aren't readily available. CapGeek had done a lot for interest in the league and for media. That exposure only helps the interest and ratings in the NHL. No kidding. Lots of money to be made there. Bettman was very adamant that the league would never do that though when asked directly.
-
They are reported because national media (all the "insiders") are all over it and get the numbers from teams, the PA and agents. Pretty much the same as the CFL, just that millions more people care and there are hundreds of reporters sniffing around instead of maybe a dozen.
-
That's a huge presumption. How much is Goossen even working in at guard? I'd put the better football player on the roster 10 times out of 10. Figure out who plays where in an emergency situation after that.
-
Same goes for the NHL, and Capgeek worked. It was all pieced together from sources, the NHL doesn't publish salary and contract info. The problem for a CFL version will be a very shallow pool of sources, but if they use some of the better beat reporters and get some inside stuff from agents, it could be interesting.

What's the difference if Chungh starts and Neufeld is the 6th or if Neufeld starts and Chungh or Goossen is the 6th in terms of the cap? I'm not a fan of Neufeld at his natural position, tackle, and even less of a fan of him at guard. The injury he's been trying to recover from for 2 years is just about the worst one someone who depends on their lower body to gain strength and leverage from could suffer. I doubt he's ever able to play the majority of a season. If Chungh shows any inkling that he's ready he should start because we need some legit interior guys who can move a 300 lb guy off the line.

It's worth noting too that O'Shea does way more media than he is required to. He's called into CJOB's Sports Show for interviews a couple times in the last week beyond his Monday show, he also calls into TSN 1290 fairly often for interviews which he does not have to do. There is some truth to the saying that you get what you give. Seems that the media who act in a respectful, professional manner get a lot of time from O'Shea.
-
I don't know about that. Once he started saying that the Riders were doing a great job of everything the Bombers were doing poorly it became pretty transparent as to who it is.

Me and my friends still talk about the kid who crapped his pants in class in grade 4 too.

Regardless of whether a guy is a drop back and pass kind of QB or a guy who improvises more often, they gotta be able to move the chains with their arm/reads when the defense forces them to stay in the pocket. That is fundamental in this era of football. Flutie could, a guy like Damon Allen often struggled to when he played against teams that defended him well, and thus he played on many awful to average teams. A scrambling QB is the easiest thing for DC's to game plan against, but a guy who can burn teams from the pocket when he's contained is unstoppable, like Flutie. But talking about QB's from the 90s back is somewhat irrelevant too because the way defenses are scheming is completely different.

I don't think he'd fit on our regular season roster unless we have a few injuries. I think that's what he might have to wait for around the league, someone to get hurt.
