  1. So you think the CBC should have outbid SportsNet for NHL broadcasting rights? SportsNet blew TSN out of the water with their bid. And I believe the CBC is mostly funded by taxpayer dollars. No. I believe they had an opportunity to hold onto the deal they had for Saturday games and a share of the playoffs with a reasonable offer. They took HNIC for granted and were stunned when the league balked at their offer excluding them. They were not a player for national rights.
  2. Great resume. Just avoid the part about miscalculating the negotiations with the NHL and killing Hockey Night in Canada. Kind of like being an awesome ship captain until you steer the Titanic right into an iceberg. Hopefully he learned from that experience.
  3. It's basic math too. If every team starts basically 3 NI OL, some 4, about 70% of the OL in the league are Canadian. 70% of them are all-stars. If 70% of the receivers in the league were Canadian, 70% of the all-star receivers would likely be Canadian too. It`s not really comparable at this point due to how teams build their rosters, right or wrong. Fact is you need Canadians everywhere, and a Canadian starting at corner is worth the same as a Canadian starting at OL in terms of fulfilling the ratio. The only spot we shouldn`t draft is quarterback.
  4. Pretty much everyone who has been mentioned as a potential first round pick in this draft has attended at least a regional NFL combine. All they need is someone to like them, and chances are they are gone for at least half of this CFL season if not more. Will be interesting to see how Walters navigates this. Will he take a significantly lesser player just to have the guy at day 1 of training camp?
  5. Drainage in the entire building is an issue. Everything drains towards the field and pools at the edges of the concourse and bottom of the seating area. Wouldn't have been a problem if water had a way to escape from where it collects or from the field. It didn't, and in many cases still doesn't. This was a side effect of poor design. It was noticed by the builder and drainage was added. Many things were added during the build because of the flawed design, that's why there are tens of millions in overruns and a much longer timeframe to build the thing than was anticipated by the designer and builder initially. The design had no egress to or from field. Extremely basic stuff like this was missed in the design. The builder and the Bombers can only do so much on their own before they are changing the scope of the project. The builder does not have the best history here, but they basically had to attempt to make chicken salad out of chicken turds.
  6. NFL is more worried about how big a QB's hands are than how tall or heavy he is in terms of physical attributes.
  7. Last 12 years and the next 12 are very different. A few teams/governments with stadium debts to service relying on those Grey Cups to make those payments and fund their operations in a more general sense.
  8. I'd pick up Shomari Williams and use him on special teams, give him a chance to work his way into some snaps at defensive end. That's his position, his career was ruined by Saskatchewan trying to turn him into a LB on the Canadian field.
  9. LeFevour was good for Hamilton last year. Without him they don't make the Grey Cup. IMO, he's the guy who finally convinced Austin to take the shackles off his mobile QB's. They signed a stable of scrambling QB's and ran an offence early in the season that forced them to exclusively pass from the pocket. LeFevour made a ton of plays with his legs and arm when he got a chance and the TiCats scheme did a 180 by the time Collaros came back.
  10. I'm guessing they are leaving spots for guys from regional combines?
  11. OUA is afraid of travel. No schools travel as much as Manitoba and UBC being at the far ends of the largest geographical conference in the country (it really should be split into two conferences quite honestly). I think the OUA is worried about other sports looking to do the same thing. A national basketball schedule would threaten their domination thanks to the Ottawa schools. They need to go through the conferences to justify the existence of the "Northern 8". Many of these schools already travel across the country for exhibition games so the CIS could simply say why not just continue to do that since it's been happening for a decade. For this to work these games need to count for something. It may work better to aim for broadcasting the conference championship games this year (out of spite maybe snub the OUA...) and revisit the Northern 8 idea in December. That way they'd have games that matter, trophies on the line and a berth in the Bowl games the following week. Counting as a game in the conference standings is nearly meaningless, especially to teams that are 1-2 loss teams. It counts more for ranking and sorting conferences and the Top 10, basically an exhibition game. If they want to make it count, scrap the conference playoffs and have a national 8 team playoff with each conference guaranteed one representative.
  12. Montreal's lucky that no matter what they do they probably can't be worse than 3rd in their division.
  13. Better than the immobile centre with 0 working knees from U of S we brought in a few years ago. Sounds like this guy is at least a CFL-level athlete.
  14. Why don't the schools who want to play teams in other conferences schedule games with teams from other conferences? Personally I don't believe that having the games count in the conference standings makes a lick of difference in terms of fan interest. It's about bragging rights and the top teams sizing each other up for the Vanier. I don't understand why they are trying to go through the conferences and CIS.
  15. The gymnast?
  16. Is he really that small? He's listed at 5'10 between 180-190. Unless he is exceptionally slow, he'll get a good shot.
  17. Signing with Saskatchewan makes almost no sense from Glenn's perspective unless they give him stupid money. Montreal he'll have a pretty good shot to play.
  18. Interesting hire. The AD went against the alumni, huh? SFU was burned badly by Jacques Chapdelaine. I think there's a lot of hesitation by the AD to hire a CFL assistant as a head coach now because of what happened. Jacques promised the university a long term commitment. Then he jumped to the Riders first opportunity he got after only one season as HC. SFU can't afford to be hiring their fourth HC in 4 years if Reinebold decided to jump back to the CFL a year after he was hired. Too risky so this was the safe hire. I just messaged my son what you posted. Thanks. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. I don't think they can ever rely on a good hire to stay very long unless they put massive penalties in their contract for leaving before it expires, like a huge buyout. Which is pretty much the same for every NCAA school outside of the power conferences, and even a bunch of the school lower on the totem pole in those conferences will have guys bolt for better jobs. The guy they hired would probably bolt at the first offer of an OC job at a D1 or 1-AA school.
  19. I'm guessing they'll invite a bunch of guys from the whole midwest to the Fargo tryout camp, but an odd location. You'd think they'd just have it in the Minneapolis area.
  20. One Rider fan and they got torn to shreds by the bulk of the posters.
  21. Run game was fine when a good running back was used. Every OL in the CFL can run block. The ability to actually run the ball with a back who can put the offense in 2nd and 5 or less consistently will be a bigger upgrade than any made on the offensive line. On the whole, Bryant will be an upgrade, the rest depends on guys picking up their game, Greaves and Neufeld specifically. Goossen is a wildcard. Picard for Morley is a wash, Picard's snapping and calls should be more refined given he's spent his whole life playing centre, but he can't block anybody 1 on 1. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they end up in the top half of the league in terms of protecting the QB.
  22. Too soon. There's going to be at least a half dozen guys and probably more who will get drafted/signed by the NFL. I'm guessing Walters won't risk burning the 2nd overall pick on one of those guys, so once we know who is heading south it won't be too hard to piece it together.
  23. They are both attending NFL regional combines. We'll see if they get invited to the Super Regional.
  24. Sherman at safety seems like a really bad idea, like Cauchy Muamba bad. He can't cover man at all. He is extremely good at blitzing and a below average tackler. He's a role player, and he definitely can serve a purpose on defense, but that's like 15 snaps a game.
  25. This draft is going to be hell in terms of the NFL issue. Would almost rather pick later in the first round.
