  1. I'll be the first one to tell you that Greaves was awful last season, but trading him given the alternatives right now would be insane. Neufeld is not a good guard and had really only had a handful of good games at any position in his career. Plus he's damaged goods. Goossen has some pep but really struggled on the whole to block anyone at guard. As a backup you can deal with that, but he's a centre, there's no way they are relying on him to play 18 games at guard. Greaves is a tier above Neufeld and not overpaid by about $50,000 a year coming off a career threatening injury.
  2. Ivy League is hard to judge through highlight videos IMO. That whole video looks like it is in slow motion and the QB's are terrible passers. Hopefully they have some intel or are able to work him out.
  3. Durant has to be one of the most overrated players in the history of this draft, or at least since people started paying attention to it. I wonder how the Bombers had the receivers ranked. I suspect it was Demski, Harty, Richards, Durant. Wonder if they trade to make a deal with Montreal, Calgary or Ottawa to snag Harty.
  4. No it really wasn't. It will take some pretty significant renovations to fit a Canadian football field in there. BMO was about as basic of a soccer stadium as you could have built before the renovations that have already happened. There was a proposal for a multi-purpose stadium at York in the mid-2000s but the fact that the Argos owners had literally no money to operate a football team let alone contribute to a stadium killed that one. The people in Toronto and Ontario have been hoodwinked to maybe even a greater extent than we have been with IGF. What happened to BMO being the national soccer stadium? We're hosting the Women's World Cup and there won't be a single game played at BMO. Fact of the matter is that they bought and paid for a shiny new toy for MLSE, not much else.
  5. I could see him being one of the old "couldn't pass a physical" type cut.
  6. West being cut would be a major surprise IMO. They are making a concerted effort to add smart, able veteran special teams players. Would be odd if they cut one unless he's hurt.
  7. Should be a reasonable threat as a change of pace in both pass and run game. Runs pretty much upright from the time he gets the ball though. He's gonna get cranked and not have much recoil to stay on his feet when he does.
  8. Apparently if you translate his name into English it's "Wade Miller."
  9. Durant is in the mix too, though. Of those three, Durant looks to be the most physical and therefore probably a clutch player. He would be a good fit here. Once he learns how to get open. Demski and Harty already know how. If I'm Calgary, I'd draft a guy like Durant. The Bombers just can't. Harty is a likely bet in the 2nd round.
  10. Durant is in the mix too, though. Ya, and he's the kind of player Taman and Popp would draft. More sizzle than steak at the moment, all potential.
  11. I don't see much probability of Demski dropping to 11 now. I think the Als are going to go OL at 4 and take Demski or Shaq, whoever is left at 8. Riders will take one of those two at 6.
  12. Long snappers are important, but at any given time there are five guys watching the games on TV teams could call who can do the job. The problem here last year was that they refused to use a roster spot on someone who is simply a long snapper. It's bizarre to trade anything of value for one.
  13. Increases the probability that the Riders are picking a "skill" guy at 6.
  14. Wonder what the offers are like for #2. If Hamilton came at us with something like 2 and 15 for 8, 17, 20, Gill and a 2016 2nd or 3rd I'd find it hard to refuse. It would be risky because that 2nd overall pick this year is as close to a guaranteed player as you can get in one of these drafts, but 4 top 20 picks and a good prospect would be nice too.
  15. I think other than the first 3 OL guys who are likely available and able to step in and start or be a 6th OL as a rookie (Mateas, Chungh, Groulx), there is not a lot of difference between the next 4 or so OL, so teams with picks in the first couple rounds might wait to pick an OL if they feel a player at another position is the best player on the board. The dropoff is much more steep at receiver, tailback and DB after the top guy or couple guys at each of those spots. Chungh is probably our pick at #2. Will be interesting to see if Walters trades back into the first round using the two second rounders to scoop someone.
  16. Who cares about position? Draft the best player available. You need to start 7 Canadians, not 7 Canadian offensive linemen. Drafting by position out of desperation does not work. Clearly try to bring in players at every spot, but in terms of prioritizing, it just doesn't work. We could draft an OL in the fourth round who will have a better career than the guy rated highest in the draft by CFL.ca today.
  17. Saskatchewan is pretty desperate for NI's on offence, Argos are borderline desperate with Durie and Bradwell around their best before dates.
  18. I think the legitimate "skill" guys (Tailbacks and REC's) could go very fast because there aren't many and especially many who will be anything but longer term development guys. Demski, Harty and Shaq are the guys ready to play. By the Bombers 2nd pick I wouldn't be surprised if three of Demski, Harty, Durant and Shaq are off the board. Campbell and Richards might hang on the board a bit longer. I hope Walters is listening to offers and pushing other teams who may be putting together offers to include some younger current CFLers. Hamilton could be an interesting trade partner in terms of trading down and adding a guy who can make a big impact this year.
  19. You sure about that? Whenever I watch a game from the Spengler Cup I can't believe that advertisers even want to pay for jerseys like that^. They are so busy that you can barely pick out a single sponsor when you see them. I could see paying for the entire front or a patch on the back or something, but with 20 other logos on the shirt, it's useless.
  20. I just got a robo call from the New York Giants. They invited me to mini-camp, but I didn't want to disappoint my mom on Sunday, so I turned them down.
  21. I wouldn't call it a nightmare, that's a little extreme don't you think? Needing two of Thomas, Briggs or Sherman on the field at all times would not be good. Who knows if Newman will be anywhere close to where he was pre-injury? Briggs has big potential, and I see him as kind of a hedge on Hurl, but the other two can't handle more than a couple dozen snaps a game in the right situations. I think we might end up starting 8 Canadians for some in-game flexibility, assuming everyone is healthy. The sooner we get Louie Richardson off the roster the better too. This move probably guarantees it, we've got a good teams guy in Ivan Brown signed too who probably takes Richardson's spot directly, plus draft picks and Newman. Potentially problematic, but we also possibly have the ability of starting up to 5 Nationals on offense, so depending on who's injured, we wouldn't have to even consider this as an option. I also think you'll be surprised of how Newman could get involved in more than just ST. I do agree though that starting 8 is a good idea if we can pull it off. Just can't assume he'll be anywhere near the same player due to the injury. He'll never regain 100% mobility.
  22. Thought Westerman was a tad younger, but 30 with 6 years in the NFL, hasn't played in 2 years. Decent amount of mileage with some time on blocks. Remember Riall Johnson? Hope Westerman is able to live up to the hype.

I'd be happy if he's ready to chase kicks.
  24. Good point. Wonder if they'll have to deal with what Waterloo did. Probably not, given how massive that program is to the AUS.
  25. Agreed. Weird that a guy like Abankwah would take what the East German swimmers did. Usually expect it more from LB/DL/OL/FB types.
