Red Zone and 2-point Conversion Offense
JuranBoldenRules replied to Super Duper Negatron's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
For Marcel it's the corner route, 90% of the time for Denmark. Can't believe how often we'd run that play on first down in the red zone. Even more unbelievable was how many times it worked even well into the season when everyone had tons of film to look at. -
A guy like Messam would do the trick. If we could figure out the two games in the season he'd be worth a roster spot it might be worthwhile. As opposed to using a DI spot on a backup running back who will only touch the ball a few times a game? If that guy can play special teams well I'd rather use a DI there than have Messam do the same and be useless when he isn't getting the ball (otherwise on offense and special teams)/

I'm a little bit surprised at this one to be honest. I thought on the whole BC punched above their weight given the guys they lost and the spots on their team that are abysmal (offensive line being the obvious one). Wally passing the buck.

Same with Goodrich It's Because they're from Winnipeg They're both very good. But realistically, this talk of Demski going #1 is premature. At least until the combine. #1, probably not. But I'd love to pick him and find ways to get him the ball. He's going to be lethal. I'd probably lean more towards using him as an Andrew Harris type tailback then as a receiver in the CFL. Never quite understood why the Bisons did not use him like that. Coombs was a volume tailback, needed lots of carries and busted the odd big run, but I guess they decided to go all-in on the conversion to receiver and spread their talent around a bit with Lafrance coming through at the same time too.

Question.. Onside "gunner" decides to not go for ball but balls to the wall to hit the return man.. As he is onside there is no 5 yard budget zone... Technically speaking couldn't this play be one designed to just tee the bleep off on the return man? Basically the same rules on onside players on any kick, just think of a kickoff. You can't interfere with a guy who is trying to receive a kick, but ya, if you can get there right after he catches it you are legal to hit him if you were onside when the ball was kicked. Onside guys also have a right to catch the kick in the air so if they go for it and get interfered with that could be a penalty on the "receiving" team.

Your post makes no sense. How do you get 7 good NI starters if you don't take the best player available (with consideration to availability around the NFL factored in)? Having a bunch of OL who might be ready to play in 2-3 years won't help us. Gotta draft and develop those mid-round guys into being players. How many 1st round picks on Calgary's OL or Saskatchewan's? We desperately need players who can play now regardless of position. Draft 1 OL with the first overall and pencil him in as a 2nd year starter. Draft 1 OL later in the draft and HOPE he will eventually turn into something down the line. Use the mid-rounds to bolster the rest of the NI roster. Gotta use your top picks to upgrade where you need to and for the Bombers, that's O lineman. That's how you end up with no top end Canadians. It's the Taman plan, look at the Riders roster, look at what he did here. They are SOL when Getzlaf and Foley are done. Might as well trade picks for good players if you aren't going to take the best player in the draft. lol, that's how you end up starting 6 or 7 top ones on your O & D lines, the rest don't matter, they are plumbers and teamsters which is exactly where they belong. You're right. Did you vote for Pencer as our top OL this year? Just use those first rounders on offensive linemen and count the wins!

Somebody has been watching too much ESPN and his name starts with a "G" and ends in "ary." Taman may not be his friend anymore after that one.

Always a good idea in real windy or bad conditions IMO. If nothing else it completely screws up the block/return of the other team.

Let's hope that's the last PI challenge we ever see. One of the top three bad rule changes in CFL history along with changing the blocking rules on special teams and forcing teams to take a kickoff after a FG. League was smart enough to kill both of those after one season, hoping the PI challenge goes the same way.

Picard's snaps have been awful in this game, just incredibly slow. Especially against a team like Edmonton, can't have that.
-
Chamblin put all his eggs in Kerry Joseph's basket. Now he just has a basket full of eggshells and yolk.
-
They've gone ultra conservative on offence for almost the entire 2nd half. Playing not to lose. Defense and special teams have won the last 3 games for them.
-
I'd give him a look as a receiver. A lot of guys on this Bisons team are going to play in the CFL. McKoy, Sawyer, Apperley, Lalama, couple OL in Smith and McKay, Regert, Onyemata, Hicks (assuming those last two guys get in better shape) and Foster on top of Demski and Gill look like guys who have a pretty good shot to me.

Cornish had an all-time yards per game type season. I can understand the argument of not playing enough games, but if he played enough games to be Most Outstanding Canadian, he should be MOP too. -

Provided with 2 receivers who can catch anything within 10 yards of them and can't be covered, Crompton still completes half his passes. Says it all. He's like a poor man's Jay Cutler. Will be interesting to see what kind of deal Duron Carter gets from a NFL team. I bet he'll have offers from most teams. -
Too Little for Ottawa in Expansion Draft?
JuranBoldenRules replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There is no way to make it fair for an expansion team. No matter who they get, they are playing together for the first time and have to establish a foundation. An expansion draft can't do that. And really, to add to what Mike said, they came into the CFL Draft with two QB's who started the last two Grey Cups in Glenn and Burris, along with a guy who started and won a handful of games for BC in Demarco. You aren't going to get better than that as an expansion team. IMO, the expansion draft should only cover NI players if there is ever another one, felt that way before the last expansion draft too. -
I guess it's a good thing Ricky Ray is so "clutch," otherwise the .500 teams he leads year after year would be terrible.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Actually it is quite different in that the CIS programs have funding from their schools which allows them to field their teams. The CJFL teams rely on funding from their CFL partners. Without that funding, the CJFL does not exist, so there would be no players to draft. Looking at the situation from a fan viewpoint may make sense for player selection, but it doesn't solve the funding issue, and it doesn't develop players who are not suited to the academic standards of the CIS. I'm not sure why you are linking financial support from CFL clubs with the territorial exemption. Why couldn't the CFL as a whole continue supporting junior football while entering all Canadian players into the draft? I don't think the Bombers write a cheque to the Rifles while having one Brett Carter on the roster every decade in mind. They aren't funding the Rifles to produce CFL players, they are doing it in good faith. -

Why would we want Stephan back? Never able to play, softer than kleenex when he does. -

JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The territorial exemption had its day. Previously teams had to "draft" players in their territory in a round prior to the draft of college players. Other junior players were free agents. In modern times, it makes little sense for Canadian players to be entering the league directly through multiple channels, they should all be subject to the draft. It just isn't equitable. Imagine if the Jets could only claim players from the Wheat Kings, while the Leafs had access to all the OHL teams in Southern Ontario, the Canucks had all the WHL teams in BC, but everyone could draft players from the CIS and NCAA. That's about as absurd as the current CFL system for NI's. The Bombers work with the Bisons, why aren't they entitled to their players too? That argument holds little water for me. -

Key point. Goodrich is as good of a prospect as Demski in terms of talent. He could be a very good CFL player.I like JFG and Kohlert, I don't think Watson has enough good plays left in him to be a main target. Probably the best territorial exemption we've had a chance at since I can remember.Equivalent of an additional first rounder in the CFL Draft, in my opinion. The fellows whose knowledge I defer to because they are infinitely more familiar with amateur football in this province said he was the second best receiving talent to come out of Manitoba behind Demski. How much of that is hyperbole? Couldn't say, but I certainly would not be in a position to argue with them. So it certainly sounds like we'd potentially be landing the equivalent of a free first round pick if we pulled something like that off. But he's not on our roster yet. It's true. Demski was a running back though. Switched to slot to get him on the field cause Coombs took the job at U of M. Both naturally gifted football players, Demski is only in year 2 as a full-time receiver. Not exactly sure what happened with Goodrich at U of M, but worked out better for the Bombers that he didn't last and wasn't draft eligible. -
