  1. facepalm statemetn of the year. Didn't complete 60% of his passes until he was 34 years old. Career QB rating of 84. If Steven Jyles played for 23 seasons, he'd have the passing yards record too.
  2. Pontbriand played a ton of fullback last night.
  3. Doug Flutie is the greatest QB and player the CFL has ever had.............. not a pocket QB. Warren Moon, Jackie Parker, Damon Allen, Russ Jackson, I can go all day, were not pocket QB's. Damon Allen was a pretty average QB who lasted a long time. Flutie could throw from the pocket if defense's forced him to. That's the important distinction. Guys can be good as scramblers, but if teams fan their ends and force him to stay in the pocket, can he make the throws? Collaros hasn't shown that he can yet IMO, whenever he's been forced to stay in the pocket he has struggled significantly. Scrambling QB's who can't pass are the easiest ones to stop, cause all a defense has to do is be patient and force him to make throws, if he can't make them his team is SOL.
  4. The entire offense would have had a much easier time with a back who could have put us into 2nd and 5 or 6 consistently vs getting nothing on most of his carries and the odd 40 yard burst. Teams have literally been teeing off on our offensive line and Willy because we had no running threat, and Grigsby didn't make anyone second guess a blitz cause all they had to do was make contact to get him down, he couldn't make anyone miss or fight through contact so literally no threat to get past that first wave on a blitz. IMO, we probably win 2-3 more games with a running threat like Cotton was last night.
  5. To be honest I don't know if he was good or lucky on that completion he made on that "Houdini" play. If I had my druthers I would have been very happy with him throwing the ball out of bounds on that kind of play because typically that throw would end up as a pick. That one and about 3 more. I hope the people who are happy with his reckless play when it works aren't the ones jumping on his back when it doesn't, but we know how that goes.
  6. Kohlert looks like an impact Canadian to me.
  7. Having a running back who actually understands how to find the gaps in zone blocking and get a few yards on his own was a nice change of pace. Too bad we were out of the playoff running when we made that change, could have been a much different season offensively and a much simpler game for our QB had the change been made early in the season.
  8. Brohm looked real good to me, and he looks better each time he plays. It's too bad he's done for the season. Marve looked like a guy who is a home run hitter, the type who will strikeout a ton too. Tonight he hit a couple home runs, but some of those throws...
  9. I have a cell phone with MTS, and tried to switch to their TV/internet when I moved recently, but their customer service was just awful. No installations after 4 PM, nothing on weekends, didn't seem to care too much when we said that the fact that they had no flexibility to work evenings meant they wouldn't get $150 a month from us. That's why I'm still with Shaw, although they aren't much better. Would be nice to have some competition in tv/internet, seems like MTS and Shaw treat us like we need them more than they need us as customers. MTS does have all TSN's in their basic package, but no Sportsnet or other sports channels, and I'd rather have some variety than 5 TSN channels which usually have no more than 2 different events/programs on at once.
  10. So throw it away before the ball is snapped?
  11. Who cares? Grigsby was so far below average it is basically inconsequential.
  12. There's almost no private or public organization that allows free media access to their employees. They appoint a spokesperson. I'm sure all of the leaders in the world are just terrible and weak. I could be terminated from my job if I spoke to the media without clearing it through administrators, and chances are if I didn't have a specific reason to talk to the media, the administrators would handle it. There is nothing wrong with the Bombers media policy. The media have incredible access to the players, Walters, Miller and O'Shea. When Mike Kelly tried to change the media policy and allow access to co-ordinators on specific days during the week, the media railed against that, they simply want what they cannot have, all of the time.
  13. That's part of the reason to run a slow methodical offense. Allows our defense to rest and keeps the other teams offense off the field. Problem is when we run this type of offense, we don't score. And it doesn't give the defense much of a rest if the offense isn't getting first downs in any case. Getting out of the huddle quicker or running no huddle doesn't necessarily take up less time either, just gives the opposing defense less time and our offense more time to adjust pre-snap.
  14. This is all Marcel thinking he has a big play offence. After 3 quarters of 2 and outs again, they'll string together some 9 play drives just in time to run out of time. Complete and utter BS. I've said time and time again, this offense looks much more proficient when they are running an up tempo three minute offense .. they consistently move the chains and put pressure on opposing defenses .. I'm not sure why it takes us 57 minutes before we start to move with urgency .. Agree fully. Bellefeuille doesn't seem to care much about tempo, we've gotta be one of the slowest teams between plays, but tossing in some no huddle and controlling the pace of the game is something that could mask some of the deficiencies personnel-wise.
  15. Five days to impress or gone. More players coming thru for evaluations. Once a player gets a practice roster spot they usually are here longer than 5 days. The 5 Day Trial was used to evaluate & then activate those players if the coaches felt they could play. It was a quick fix & baptism by fire. Whereas PR players are there for further development. But it's essentially the same. If a team doesn't think a guy has a chance to be a CFL player when he joins the PR, they can send him home whenever they want, 5 days or 5 weeks. The advantage I see with this is that you are not limited to the number of players being brought in throughout the year, good call. There's no limit to the number of players teams can bring in throughout the year now either. Replace "tryout" with "practice roster" and it's the exact same thing. I do think the league could do something to promote some player movement and discourage player hoarding though, similar to how the players on tryouts had to clear waivers to remain on "tryout" kind of thing.
  16. That's funny, I've seen a number of times where Kelly goes up and contests for the ball over a few defenders, and...he comes down with the catch. Kelly's pretty good at leveraging defenders in zone, basically posting up in the middle of the field and taking some contact. Other than a highlight reel catch in the first game, I'd have a hard time saying I've seen him pull down any jump balls, which is what people expect his specialty to be when they see him. It isn't, and he's not exactly a beast when he needs to fight through a defender in any circumstance, which is why he's a 6'5 receiver with a great ACC career who never even got into a NFL mini-camp. Can't beat anybody.
  17. What's the difference between a "5 day trial" and a practice roster spot? Nothing?
  18. Yep. Romby forces the safety to make a decision a lot faster than Kelly does. Maybe. I don't think anyone respects Romby as a guy who can make any plays, speed or not. Bryant's speed is kind of the equivalent of having a 200 IQ but being the laziest person on earth, what difference does it make if he doesn't use it? Which is the equivalent of Kelly's height I suppose. If there's anyone within a few yards of Bryant, he won't win that battle for the ball, and everyone knows it. He can do something when teams completely lose track of him in the middle of the field though. To be honest, I'd prefer using Grigsby as a role player in and out of the backfield over dressing either Bryant or Kelly, but I don't trust our coaches to give Cotton a chance if Grigsby's on the roster either, so I'm fine with him sitting this week.
  19. How do you know? Got a personal sit-down with Kyle Walters and Mike O'Shea?
  20. Realistically, they should start the auditions at import receiver and DL before this season ends, get some guys up here and get the guys up here who are prospects into a game or two. We need at least two import receivers, and two import DL. Peach, Kelly and Bryant need to go. Vega is iffy IMO, he could fully recover for next season, or could be pulling around a wonky leg/foot for the rest of his career. Might need to be replaced too. I like Booker so far, he could be one of those DL. Running back is pretty obvious too in terms of imports. Pretty sad, but Edmonton has played/cut 4 import RB's better than any guy we've dressed this year. Same could be said for Calgary and Toronto. Walters and company need to find some players south of the border for next season. NI's will be a longer term solution.
  21. Blindsiding a guy when the play is over is the definition of stupidity, especially since it was made a point of emphasis for officials, which players are well aware of. It's a pointless, selfish act, and that kind of crap is continually costing our team field position and points. Maybe Kuale should take up MMA, cause team sports sure aren't his thing. At least there his selfish stupidity will only hurt himself. He didn't blindside anyone on the play. They went face-to-face and neither player got the better of the other. Kuale has taken a number of stupid penalties but that penalty shouldn't have been called. The hit that was called was a late and unnecessary blindside, exactly what the officials are watching for. Kuale came across the field and blindsided Verdone on a punt return when our returner was already on the turf. Verdone popped up, they had words and Kuale tapped him on the head afterward. You must have missed the hit that drew the flag and only caught the aftermath.
  22. Probably can't trade Watson either. He'll get injured on the flight to his new city and flunk the physical. It's too bad.
  23. I still think Calgary is tops in the west provided Cornish and BLM are healthy... but will they be? That's the real question. Whether it's health or attitude related, Cornish has been inconsistent this year. The Calgary team we saw last night won't make it out of the West. Only on pace for 2100 yards over 18 games. Could hit 3000 if he ever found consistency. He's only touched the ball 20 times once this season too.

  25. About the same as the Argos being sold and having a stadium deal done by next February 15. The Argos will pay Holmes what he wants. They have Wayne Smith starting at the opposite guard, I don't think they'll be playing around too much when it comes to getting Holmes signed. Only way Holmes or Heenan hit free agency is if they are looking for NFL deals.
