  1. You are exactly right. Helmets can't prevent concussions from force, only protect from direct blows to the head. They need to start severely penalizing illegal tackles, high tackles and ones where players launch themselves head first into any part of an opponent.
  2. Ritchott isn't that small for a tailback and he runs with a lot of power. He's played rugby at a fairly high level and could have continued with that too. He's not shy about contact or hard work. The Bombers would be smart to claim him while they can. I played against and with Harris, I've coached against Ritchott in football and rugby, Ritchott is up there with Harris in terms of pure skill, probably a little more mature in his early 20s than Harris. Those two and Demski are the absolute terrors with the ball I've seen in this province in my time. This guy will play in the CFL.
  3. Good thing we're allowed imports.
  4. Honestly don't understand how the Herdman's factor in. Athletically they are both borderline CFLers. The Bombers retained Hurl, signed Miles, drafted Conteh, signed Mike Miller. They are covered.
  5. It's not so much opinion, it's that you say something like "league initiative" like it is a fact, not your opinion, and then link to an article that contradicts what you've presented as a fact.
  6. You just posted: They aren't diverting league funds. Is any other business that a owner of a CFL team gets involved with a "league initiative?"
  7. Where does it say league initiative of the CFL? Just that the first franchises are owned by people/organizations that also operate CFL teams.
  8. He's right about most. They take time. The guys the CFL wants are the best athletes who can just run by everyone in CIS and don't need to learn how to play receiver.
  9. A league initiative? The overhead for this league is going to be extremely low and most of it will be footed by the CSA. Like the highest paid player will make $10,000 a season. Don't jump off the deep end.
  10. Well seems like most teams have decided NI receivers aren't important. To me I'd play 2-3 there/RB and load up imports on the OL. The quality of NI OL has been bad this entire decade. Easier to develop decent receivers, especially when the guys throwing to them have ample time.
  11. It's hard to understand? The WFC operate a stadium that has about 350 open dates per year. They need to fill dates and make money. They aren't just a football club, they are operating a facility.
  12. Most of the guys picked after the first 3 rounds are camp bodies who might get on a PR and be able to work themselves onto a roster in a matter of years. They don't need roster spots for them.
  13. I think you're reading the comment the wrong way. They can draft two players in the first round, but they need to be players because they are getting paid based on their draft slot not their actual value to a CFL roster in recent years. They aren't drafting someone to sit on IR all year to get seasoned. I don't believe they would trade picks for players because there isn't really any room on the roster, unless a completely unreasonable trade comes along that is an upgrade. More likely they'd trade for future picks.
  14. That "turf" at IGF is going to be better than any grass field here. They won't spend the amount they would need to maintain a nice grass field here. Remember how horrible the field was at Waverley when they tried to play soccer here before, both pro and CMNT? Grass and soccer season don't really mix here.
  15. Interesting that everyone has decided that Canadians don't play receiver anymore. The receiver rankings are based more on what they think they can provide on special teams.
  16. Because it's second tier North American pro soccer. The players won't get paid enough to afford KD.
  17. He's a 330 pound nose tackle...a position that doesn't exist in the CFL, he's a priority UDFA and he apparently doesn't have much interest in the CFL.
  18. He absolutely needs refinement. He didn't really show any moves that could get past CFLers. I really didn't like his pad level last year. He was nearly completely upright after his first step. That's not explosion. He almost never gained ground. Butcher looked like a guy who is way stronger and more athletic than anyone he plays against in college. Not so easy against pros. Based on his strengths in terms of athleticism for his size and strength he might be a better fit in the CFL on offense.
  19. Kelly Moore, Shadoe Davis. That morning show is rough. Shadoe just tries to bring this everyman point of view to hard news and it's pretty hard to listen to because he can be kind of ignorant on details. We don't really have any solid news talk in this city.
  20. Good luck to him. They don't have a lot of currency to get into the top 5, which is probably where they need to get to ensure getting Bladek.
  21. I didn't see him play this year (2016). I bet he had a good year. He's a pretty good athlete at his size, certainly better than most in the OUA, but out of the guys he's competing against there he may have faced a half-dozen CFL calibre guys. It's a big jump and he certainly wasn't close to ready last time we saw him.
  22. Disagree about last training camp. He eats space, but doesn't get off the line. He's got a long way to go to be a reasonable option.
  23. Butcher doesn't factor into it for me. With him I'm more interested to see which side of the line they have him working on once camp opens. If he even gets on a game roster this season (barring absurd rash of injuries) I would be shocked.
  24. If Ekakitie is our best option I'd trade the pick. We need someone who can play DL this year, but I just don't like the value. I think there are better options later on who are similar value and ultimately will be cheaper too.
  25. Seconded. He basically just has all the teams picking guys who played CIS nearby. I don't think he has any actual insider information to go off of, which makes him kind of useless as an analyst for a draft.
