  1. The person who really deserves grief is the sports editor at the FP. He needs to challenge the reporters to do better, and their columnist at times too. Problem is the Free Press is governed by seniority. They can't get rid of anybody once they are tenure, people get promoted based on seniority and whenever they need to make cuts or changes, it is all done by seniority not merit. There's another doozy by Wiecek in the FP today, which has basically nothing to do with the game today, on gameday. Interesting that these types of articles almost never have a byline of Tait, Penton or Wiebe.
  2. Woodward, Bernstein and Wiecek. Now we just have to figure out if Deep Throat is Jeffrey Bannon or Jim Bell.
  3. Just imagine how horrible it would be for a team that wins their division but then has to sit for 2 weeks because one of their byes falls in the last week of the season.
  4. Problem with Grigsby is that he runs with zero power (and I'm not talking about size, cause 170 lbs backs can run with power too), is extremely inconsistent, basically a big play back who gets less effective as he touches the ball more, 4 of the last 5 games he's had 10 carries or less. He hasn't come close to 20 total touches since the game in Hamilton. If we had a guy who could handle 20 carries a game and a roster spot for an extra RB, Grigsby would fit in well there, as a guy we are relying on he's a huge handicap on our offense. It's pretty clear that the offensive coaches are feeling the same way as they are moving more and more away from Grigsby being featured in the game plan. The lack of a consistent rushing attack is clearly the difference between the Bombers offense being 7th in the league or being in the top 3 offensive teams.
  5. Huh? Cornish literally had 3x as many yards as Will Ford last season.
  6. It's not bad press, it's obtuse press. I don't understand why the reporters feel the need to analyze a sport they don't even have the first clue about now, but it sure is getting bad with 1290 having them on day after day when they have nothing to talk about. Not negative bad just plain old bad. Wiecek in particular just continually makes himself sound like an idiot. At least a guy like Tait will tell you what he sees and connect it back to what he's seen in the past. Guys like Wiecek and Lawless ramble on like they'd coached in the CFL. O'Shea embarrassed Lawless pretty badly on 1290 this week, since Lawless came at O'Shea like an attack dog with completely incorrect assumptions, Lawless was basically apologizing and saying that when he asks O'Shea a question he's looking for an answer, not trying to give him a backhanded slam. I can listen to 1290 one day a week on the Bombers, then they have nothing to add. I've been switching it off whenever they talk about the Jets since the draft, just nothing more to say, all soap opera crap.
  7. Guess you'll just have to wait and see how many guys they add to the PR when it expands. PR has nothing to do with an 'airlift'... you know that. Airlift is bringing in starters - every year the PR expands after NFL cuts Find a situation where a good team (we are over .500) brought a CFL rookie up from down south and put them onto their roster in the 2nd half of the season in this decade (2010s). We did last year because it was basically an extended 2014 training camp and we basically lost our entire OL at one point so Knapp and Jones got tossed to the wolves. Just doesn't happen.
  8. Tons of ex-CFLers in the draft and on the neg list, or maybe zero. Pretty hard to have a discussion if you can't follow the thread.
  9. Glen Suitor better watch out! You're coming for his chair.

  11. No, my brain just works normally. Pull in a guy who's conditioned to play American football, give him 3 days to learn the playbook, good luck. You think Mo Legget is our defensive MVP because of his experience witrh the CFL game? Guys a straight up baller no matter what league it is. Talent trumps experience and we lack talent. Mo Leggett had a full training camp. Apples to oranges. Anyone they bring in at this point they are looking at for next season and will only play in desperate circumstances.
  12. You're talking about one player so let's close the door on the rest of them too.... Do you have a source on who the rest of these players are? Cause there's Matthews (not coming north), Hall (most likely not coming north, seems to be limited interest from both CFL teams and Hall), Hunt (injured) and Damaso Munoz.
  13. No, my brain just works normally. Pull in a guy who's conditioned to play American football, give him 3 days to learn the playbook, good luck.
  14. Which is complete and utter horseshit for the half way point of the season in the heat of a playoff race. It's this kind of attitude that gets you eat'in alive by the press. I'd bet my life that O'Shea hasn't spent one second thinking about how the press will react to anything since the season started. Why? Because it is completely inconsequential to his job of winning football games. Dropping 5 NFL cuts onto the field next week has a high probability of affecting that outcome negatively.
  15. If you want trades and player movement, watch hockey or baseball. Football is a stand pat sport during the season. Mike is absolutely right, and to add on to that, the team with the player currently on their PR can just make a simple paper transaction to move the player onto their 46 man roster and block the claiming team. You need the player and their current team to agree for the player to change teams, and you have to activate that player yourself.
  16. I would have rather played Lulay. Lulay will never be the same. He'll be lucky if he retains sensation in his arm after so many shoulder surgeries.
  17. The competition at defensive line and receiver was abysmal, arguably two of the easier spots to find players along with running back. I'm fine with giving a pass on finding Canadians, that takes time, but literally no one was found at receiver and one guy was found at DL, a guy who has been pretty marginal. Mack found Jeffers-Harris, Carr, Denmark and Matthews in his first 3 seasons, Hopkins, Turner, Vega, Hall, hell even a guy like Kenny Mainor. I've seen nobody close to any of those guys. Hopefully we start seeing some guys at those two spots that give us some hope for being useful players when we'll be a great team, cause Bryant and Kelly sure won't be those guys, and Greg Peach probably won't be either.
  18. At best he's a complimentary guy IMO. Plug him into a Will Ford in Regina type role, and he'd be a good player. Having him as the only tailback on the roster is a handicap.
  19. Honestly reading Lawless' last two columns of last week, one on the Jets, one on the Bombers, I couldn't believe someone gets paid to write like that. It's like he has a template and just plugs different names in, terribly lazy garbage. He really needs a reporting gig, cause the columnist one just isn't his forte.
  20. We're short about 5 good players on offence (2 import receivers, a tailback and a couple OL) and a couple on D. Hard to expect consistency given the roster. Guys like Kelly and Bryant are just average CFLers, and that's being generous, and yes Kelly is spectacular for the one game in each half of the season he makes an appearance in. Grigsby gets worse the more carries he gets, which is the opposite kind of RB you need to win, I'll take a guy with 15 carries for 5 yards a piece over a guy who gains 2 yards 7 times and busts one for 35 yards.
  21. No kidding. Just imagine what would happen if Jake Thomas went down.
  22. You are completely wrong. Look at where the Riders points came from in both games in Winnipeg. Offence didn't put up enough points in the first game and gave up 2 direct TDs, special teams did the same yesterday. If the O and ST don't hand the Riders points, both games in Winnipeg are easy Bomber wins even with 200 rushing yards against.
  23. 100 yard games by individual backs. They've been alternating 2 and 3 backs in almost every game this season.
  24. Running or passing, doesn't really matter, if a team is consistently making first downs the clock runs at the same rate outside of the last 3 minutes of each half.
  25. Kuale makes almost zero positive plays in his position, and continually costs the team with undisciplined play, not just penalties either. He's pretty much as bad as it gets even before he hands the other team 60 free yards.
