  1. Barley Bros is cool for the beer. Only problem is they don't have a sampler package. I'm hesitant to pay $8 for a beer that I might not like, and in a place like that I'd like to spread my cash around and taste a few different beers which I haven't tried before. Every other similar craft beer pub I've been to in my travels has at least one, and most have a variety of sampler packages. Food was meh and relatively expensive...the option of frozen mashed potatoes (my choice) or a heap of cabbage with a burger was odd, I remember that more than the beer I drank.
  2. If you want to get the best view of the game, I'd sit anywhere in the upper deck, but be careful cause there are some obstructed seats there, mostly in the first couple rows at the front and around the walkways. If you sit in the lower part of the lower bowl the view is not very good but you will be way closer to the field than you were at the old stadium.
  3. Seems to me that Fords best asset as a runner was his speed.... He wasn't terribly elusive but if he got a hole he had the speed to hit it and run a long way. Yep, close to being his only asset compared other CFL backs, he doesn't break many tackles or make people miss, but if he hits a crease he can go a long way fast.
  4. It's pretty simple, to make it as a DI he had to bring value as a guy who could do all jobs, although if Hajrullahu would have crapped the bed as a placekicker I'm sure you would have seen Maher placekicking and Renaud punting. Hajrullahu has been competing at all three jobs, and Renaud has no idea how to placekick if you have a memory back to 2010 when he had to attempt a convert with the placekicker down, they literally could have picked a random fan from the stands and they probably could have kicked the ball further off a tee.
  5. He's almost never played, so I'm not sure what you're basing that assessment on. I'm not sure if you're confusing him with someone else. He's played 8 games in 2 years, hardly at all on D. He's missed more tackles than he's made this pre-season, that's what I'm basing my assessment on. I'd like to see a little more assertiveness out of a guy with LB after his name in terms of tackling a guy with the ball right in his area.
  6. ehhhhhhhh I dunno. Any extra job security Stephan got from Newman's injury has now been removed. The team needs lots of these types of players during the year. Stephan is still competing with Eisho for a job. If Cornell is still a gamer and Briggs' injury is soon resolved, then the numbers will start to work against him. Or Eisho. Unlikely they cut both. Stephan will be hurt in the first half of the first game and be gone for the year. So it really doesn't matter. More reason to cut him now before he can get on the injured list and claim a paycheque. O'shea spoke highly of stephan on the coaches show,, wouldn't be so quick to write him off even though i would sort of agree with you in thinking he should be on the bubble. This week? I can't recall hearing that.
  7. Didn't see any practices, but in the games Hajrullahu and Maher were dead even, Maher obviously has a bigger leg in terms of punting, but didn't place them well leading to big returns, and Renaud is a fairly reliable veteran punter who will have Hajrullahu around to push him too. Over 18 games I expect that Maher's placekicking would be a little more consistent, but Hajrullahu hasn't blinked to this point when the lights have been on. Tie goes to the Canadian.
  8. So the Riders are going to improve from last year, or the Stamps are going to fall back, despite Saskatchewan losing a bunch of key players, and BC is going to be worse with the quarterbacking of the guy who was the primary QB for the 14 win Stampeders last season versus rolling with bum shouldered Lulay and Demarco as they did in 2013? Got it.
  9. Because they sold off all the digital rights to TSN in the last TV deal. Which is great for the league because TSN limits access to the content (it's basically impossible for most of western Canada to access TSNGO at this point) and uses the CFL as collateral to attempt to squeeze cable providers into giving them more money. Oh I know, I just think the CFL should really consider doing the smart thing for a change and try to put a package together that wouldn't run primarily through cable. Any CFL streaming package would divert some money to TSN anyways since they're the rights holder, plus it means more eyeballs for their ads. The CFL doesn't have any control over it though. Cohon has stated that to people complaining about this TSNGO stuff. They'd have to prod TSN to do anything like that, but TSN is owned by a cable conglomerate which will only share content with others if they get paid handsomely for it. They are primarily interested at this moment in diverting people to pay for cable or to keep their cable it seems, and sticking it to other cable companies because apparently the carriage fees aren't enough.
  10. Dorzon probably still tells the story about how he made a CFL team that he had no business making, and started 3 games.
  11. Nick Moore and Korey Banks aren't that impactful. BC still has a buttload of Canadians and added several more from previous drafts this year, which allows them to actually put their best roster on the field. They've got a very good regular season QB, and they play in a division with Edmonton and Winnipeg. Something pretty catastrophic would have to happen for them to not break 9 wins. They were neck and neck with Saskatchewan last year, and Saskatchewan lost their two best playmakers, along with some Canadian depth. They also added the most dominant interior DL in the league to an already decent DL. They will also likely have better QBing on the whole, unless you think Thomas Demarco or Buck Pierce are currently better CFL QBs than Kevin Glenn, Demarco being the only notable loss from the Lions to Ottawa.

  13. New person running the CJOB twitter account?
  14. Ford wasn't here yet. It was Garrett, Simpson and Dorzon.
  15. I actually think Saskatchewan has way more question marks than BC. They lost a huge chunk of their offence in Sheets and Dressler, and I'm not exactly sold on a guy like Taj Smith to be the go-to guy for Durant. Calgary 13-5 BC 12-6 Sask 10-8 Edm 5-13 Wpg 5-13 (hoping Edmonton wins the tiebreaker) Toronto 13-5 Hamilton 11-7 Montreal 8-10 Ottawa 4-14 Saskatchewan doesn't have question marks in incredibly important areas. BC has problems at QB and problems on the OL. Could blow up in their face. They just lost a 1600 yard rusher and a guaranteed 1000 yard a season receiver. Their offence is going to be completely different without 7-8 yards on first down from Sheets. Pretty huge question mark there. BC will be fine with Glenn in the regular season.

  17. What's Bloi-Dei Dorzon up to?
  18. I think mbrg is right here. There were only five Stampeders rushing on that play. Seven guys were on the line, two dropped back. And FFS we had Grigsby in the backfield blocking too, so our protection outnumbered their pass rush 6-5. Look at how #51 was one-on-one with the outside rusher and totally whiffed on him. He wasn't even a speed bump. This is some Boatmanesque ****. Meanwhile on the other side of the line, #60, he's just kinda wandering, lost in space, and then he reaches out and taps the guy opposite him as if to reassure. This looks pretty shameful for the OL here. Maybe you can fault Hall for throwing a ball he shouldn't have thrown, but you can't blame him for playing behind an LT who's more of a matador than a football player. Clearly they didn't spend time putting in any packages to deal with the blitz other than very basic stuff, MOS said as much on his show. When they show all those guys on the line, the OL can't assume anyone is going to drop out, so they have to revert to protecting their inside gap and going from there, the most basic pass protection. The QB needs to read the blitz too and realize that there's a strong chance that a rusher is going to make it through off the edge, which is by design, the shortest route into the pocket is through the inside gaps, a rusher coming from the outside still gives the QB time to react, especially if he makes the correct read pre-snap, that is pretty basic and at the very least Hall should have known that he wouldn't have time to throw a corner route just by looking across the line. The OL did the right thing, of course the blocking wasn't perfect and Peterson could have got more of the edge rusher, but the QB needs to assume pressure when a defence shows a front like that.
  19. I'm not crazy about Aaron Kelly but really all we need from that WR spot is a guy who can catch a few balls per game, and Kelly fits that persona. Denmark, Moore, and Watson will be the guys carrying the offence in terms of receivers.... that WR spot just needs to be a guy who can catch the damn ball when it comes to him. Kelly's not a gamebreaker but he makes tough catches to keep drives alive and that might be enough. It does seem odd with all the talk about our scouting staff that they haven't been able to bring in anyone better, though. Haven't really seen that ability from Kelly, other than catching a deep ball every few games and basically bringing nothing to our offence otherwise. Given where he is (not getting any better), and where our team is (building for 2015), I don't see much of a point in giving him a lot of run. He'll always look great in practice, there's no threat of getting rocked, and he's an impressive looking athlete. The guy they brought in from Edmonton looks like he'll be a boundary WR candidate, and otherwise if they don't want to give Urrutia a shot I'd rather give it to Jaymar Johnson, even though he's older than Kelly, he's a CFL rookie and should have some mileage left if he shows he can play consistently.
  20. Vega. It's Cornish, Lulay, Durie, Vega, Bulcke, Brouillette and Reilly. I think it's Bighill. Wally wouldn't be happy if Lulay was throwing tires in the air given the condition of his shoulder.
  21. That tight end call kind of felt that long.
  22. Wasn't Will Ford our Top Special Teams player last season?
  23. Or he could read the blitz pre-snap when 6 guys are lined up full bore on the line of scrimmage and move his first read onto a route where he has a chance to get the ball out before he's snowed under. He can pretty safely assume on a blitz like that when he has fewer blockers than blitzers that there will be pressure coming from an outside gap, unless one of his linemen miraculously block 2 guys. The OL handled that blitz correctly, the QB didn't. Don't know what was called…don't know what could have been called that would have made a difference. It's a split second decision and the play was there. Nobody can say another call would have resulted in a different result. Shoulda, coulda. situation. If you don't have time to get the ball where it needs to go to complete the route, the play isn't there. QB needs to read that, because nobody else can do that for him.

  25. Did you want Cotton to personally come to your house and punch you in the mouth so you could say "WOW!"? Cause he pretty much did everything else perfect in two pre-season games. 11 carries for 97 yards long of 26. Probably the best RB screen pass we've executed in years against Calgary. What did you want to see?
