Kevin Glenn tweet re. Ottawa and free agents
JuranBoldenRules replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
They downgraded their 3rd round pick in the upcoming draft and traded their 3rd next year to Calgary for a guy who might crack the DL rotation on half the teams in the league and specifically asked for a trade to Ottawa. They'll have the best tight ends in the league though, we're all jealous of that. -
Redblacks getting some offers for Glenn

If you honestly think Goltz is as good as Marsh, well then good for you. They are in the same strata, roughly the same QB rating, Marsh is 4 points higher but with about a game's worth fewer passing attempts. Both would have to wake-up on top of a horseshoe to end up being starting QB's in the CFL. -

Is there something about Tanner Marsh's QB play we should be excited about? All I saw was Goltz 2.0. Marsh's prayers were answered...by Eric Deslauriers. -

What do you prefer, decent offence and no defense, or no offence and decent defense? -

Can't wait to see Daley storming around manically while Burke stares out at the field like he just took a bottle of Ambien. -
Who says it isn't? Free Agency is 5 hours old. Contrary to popular belief, the Bombers don't have a list of names that they go through one by one from the top down. And NIs know their worth. Any desirable FA NI with an agent worth his salt who is truly testing the market doesn't sign in 5 hours. They only have one phone line though.

Kevin Glenn tweet re. Ottawa and free agents
JuranBoldenRules replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Since Glenn left our organization unceramoniously during the start of Kelly's tenure, I've never been THAT upset that he left even though Kelly took a risk and lost. He obviously would help upgrade our QB options but I do feel his presence and demeanor on and off the field (his tweet the most recent one) has it's drawbacks that don't fit well with the type of culture, the type the approach, the type of attitude Miller, Walters and company are appearing to want to create for this team. I'm probably in the minority as a BB fan but I really don't want him back if I had the choice. I don't think you're in the minority. Glenn isn't the best leader. He seems a lot more relaxed now than he was as our starting QB in terms of dealing with the obligations that come with that position, possibly a result of both age and being humbled by being told twice that he wasn't wanted, now possibly a 3rd time. -
What debate? Everyone has equal rights. Anyone can believe what they believe, but they can't use their beliefs to exclude or intimidate people from situations that have nothing to do with those beliefs, like playing professional football. That's pretty fundamental human rights, nothing overly PC about that.

Considering who he's competing against....yes. I think we might have a rotating NI spot on defense between the secondary and DL where Newman, Cauchy, Bucknor, Lucas, Thomas and any DL we might add in the draft would rotate through depending on the defensive package.

That's not too bad. Less than he started asking for.

Cvetkovic ... Labbe ... Long-snapping co-ordinator. He could start a long-snapping camp though for young players. Tough to get a permanent gig, since once the guy knows how to long snap he knows how to long snap. Kind of one of those you get it or you don't type of skills, one repetitive technique and no tactics or reads.

Butler, no doubt. But if we're out on him (as I suspect we are) then I would have to say the guys I'd really like to see us take a shot at would be Ted Laurent (when/if he starts listening to CFL offers), Swayze Waters and Jock Sanders. Would he really be the biggest impact remaining FA for the Bombers if Graig Newman is ready to start, as some are saying? One would think Butler's impact would be lessened by the presence of Newman and Sofa already here and startable (although Sofa might not be the best safety on the Rifles). I heard we're bringing an import safety in too, I think his name is Chester Field or something like that.

You're right. There is no difference between judging people on their character, personality, judgement and poor management/writing and judging people based solely on elements of their humanity that they don't control like gender, race and sexuality. You can have sex changes, change your outward appearance and you can choose your sexual preferences at any time. Your points are invalid.Lots of people took personal shots at Kelly. How many fat jokes were cracked about Lawless. What Roberts and his personal life decisions we mocked in the past. Maybe he couldn't help chasing big girls and smoking all the time. in your world these people didn't choose to be the way they are. I wish that were true...would have led to fewer awkward moments for me on the beach as a 14 year-old whenever hot girls were around.

The most overused statement on Bomber fan forums ever. Daved Benefield is still waiting for someone to transition him into a coach.

Looks like we're set at slot with Moore, Denmark, Watson and Kohlert. I think they'll all play a little field WR too. Moore is a good upgrade on Edwards. Need a boundary WR.
-
Nick Moore isn't an elite #1 receiver unless he takes a quantum leap this off-season. If Denmark is utilized like he was in the 2nd half of the season 2013 he's a 1200 yard receiver. I'd say they are pretty comparable in terms of showing some good ability but being somewhat inconsistent in terms of production. Denmark has better hands, Moore is a bigger target, both really good route runners. I wonder if we are looking at Moore as a boundary WR to replace Matthews. He really didn't do well at that spot in BC 2012 and finally grabbed a spot inside after they dealt Geroy. That boundary WR spot is the one we need to fill. Check out Moore's stats from 2012 - 2013 - he made a quantum leap in terms of production. And that was with the starting QB out for a good portion of the season. No reason he can't be an elite receiver, he's pretty close to it right now..and those 1100 yards put him in the top-10 anyways. I could argue that's elite right now. And as for Denmark, please. Don't act like he wasn't partly responsible for his poor production for most of the season. Not being used properly was only part of the problem. He showed an inability to get open much of the time. If he improves, good for him and good for the Bombers. But I don't want to see the Bombers put all their eggs in the Denmark basket so to speak. I also don't think the Bombers should solely rely on kids fresh out of US college to provide meaningful production. 1000 yard receivers aren't as easy to find as some here seem to think. He also went from being in and out of the lineup, 4th or 5th target when he was in, to taking Geroy Simon's spot. Any receiver good enough to make a CFL team would put up 1000 yards as a primary target. Marquay McDaniel is another example of that...good enough that no one in the league wanted him. Gets a shot to be a #1 receiver with lots of injuries in Calgary, 1000 yards. Is Moore the 3rd best receiver in the league? Not a chance. Same as judging Burris as the #1 QB because he has the most passing yards, yet Lulay, Ray and Calvillo missed big chunks of the season.
-
I'm a fan of having that 6'4, 6'5 guy who can get the ball in the air yet still be an effective route runner on slants at that boundary spot. I think they might try Moore there, but he sucked at it in BC, he's a way more technical receiver than a just outmuscle a DB for a ball type guy, a good slot. I wonder if Greg Carr is staying in football shape.
-
I think you do need to if you don't have that #1 guy in house. Willy needs dependable weapons. Moore as many point out does not have that reputation yet... but if you wait for the guy's resume to fill out... you usually miss out on him during his prime. That's why I like the idea of acquiring Moore now. As long as we're not paying him $200,000 on the hope of him growing into that paycheque.

That's about the only thing about him I don't like. Moore would be the type of receiver I'd like to have on my team because he has potential to be great, but I'm not getting into a bidding war for him. He's really inconsistent so far.

He'll lose that competition to Cauchy based on passport alone. -
Diamond Ferri cut by Saskatchewan
JuranBoldenRules replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Hard to see where Ferri fits on our team, even without knowing what we have in the young imports we've signed. We're covered at WIL, Banks is probably going to play SAM or some hybrid position that takes that spot, Ferri is no better at HB than the DB's we've already got. -
