  1. Is Glenn going to last here more than 1-2 seasons? If the answer is no, don't bother trading for him. Stay the course, rebuild, commit to developing younger QB's. He doesn't make this team a contender in the West.
  2. Bye bye Stewart. I like Randle a lot, he's the only FA import DB I thought we'd go after. I think he'll play field corner if everyone is healthy, but can play the weak-side too, mostly where he lined up for Calgary. WCB- Sears WHB- Washington S- ? Muamba SHB- Suber/Markett SCB- Randle/McGee Nickel/SAM- Banks/Dunn Dime- Bucknor That's kind of what our depth chart looks like at DB in terms of CFL veterans.
  3. Forzani is hurt. He can't play.... His recovery is not going very well. It may be months before he plays, if ever. Sounds like Marcellus Bowman. Bowman had a pretty run of the mill knee injury, just needed recovery time. Forzani is in a lot of trouble with his ankle/foot.
  4. Gonna be some anxious moments out east come July. At least we had the old stadium to use in 2012.
  5. He's a great punter. Wouldn't count on an undrafted CIS kicker who has never teed one up in the CFL to be anything.
  6. I'd rather bring Palardy back than Congi. Yuck. Same problems, "accurate" kickers with no leg. If they aren't hitting 90% inside 40, they are killing you with lousy kickoffs and lack of range.
  7. "Grassroots" football is non-existent in most of Atlantic Canada and the AUS football conference is dying a slow death as the game grows in Quebec and the West. It's not a hotbed.
  8. Anyone signing him will just be paying him to sit on the 9 game list. I could see Calgary doing it out of loyalty if they think he's ever going to play again.
  9. Based on what we saw from Fitzgerald last year in the pre-season, he won't be long-snapping the CFL outside of an emergency situation where 2-3 other guys go down in a game. There are other guys who can do it in an emergency, but I suspect we'll be adding a long snapper ahead of training camp.
  10. Emry is one of the biggest tools in the league. Even as a veteran he takes incredibly stupid, selfish penalties. Add health concerns with concussions and spotty play, I don't think the market for him will be all that strong.
  11. Butler to BC...Emry and Bourke stay with Montreal...Laurent to the NFL. Chris Milo to the Als. Alex Hall and Ricky Schmiit to the NFL. Cordarro Law to the NFL. Jovon to the Als. Brandon Stewart lands in Ottawa. Anthony Parker signs with Edmonton. Jamall Johnson gets no offers. Bombers sign Kohlert, re-sign Sorensen, Gilmore and West. Other Bomber targets IMO: David Lee, Andrew Jones, Carey Koch, Chris Randle, Noel Divine and Jock Sanders (Mountaineer reunion, Bellefeuille likes the RB/REC Holmes/Thigpen types), Matt Carter, Mike Bradwell, Damaso Munoz.
  12. Those are interesting comparisons. Getzlaf has a big body, but doesn't have great speed or hands like Etienne, doesn't have the length of Etienne or his U of R contemporary Chris Bauman (who is actually a really good comparable for Etienne). Getzlaf is a receiver though, he didn't bully short DB's in CIS or run by guys slower than him and catch rainbows, he developed into a receiver in CIS. He struggled to get a shot in the CFL because he didn't have great anything, he could just play. In his first season where he got regular snaps he had over 500 yards. Getzlaf is more like a Coehoorn (although Coehoorn was much higher rated) was in that draft, just a solid football player (about the same age too 24-25 at the draft), but doesn't leap off the page with athleticism or size, just produces on offence and special teams. Stala is like Etienne in that IIRC he didn't line up at receiver for St. Mary's until his 2nd or 3rd year, he did placekick and punt for them. His development track would have been what the Bombers were looking for out of Etienne (a couple years to develop, 1000 yards in his 3rd season, minus the 2 years missed to injury after that), although Stala was a very late pick for the Als.
  13. The only spot for a 10th team that could be successful long term is Quebec City. But they are building an arena and chasing the NHL, so it'll be awhile. IMO the NHL going to Quebec City would be great for the CFL because they could use the model in Calgary, Ottawa, maybe Toronto now too, where the owner of the NHL team (OHL in Ottawa) owns and operates the football team, all these groups are looking for ways to diversify and pull more revenue. They would need a stadium with lots of public funding though.
  14. Nope. I hated on him because he couldn't play as a capable member of our roster, whether or not he was getting reps as a receiver. I knew he wouldn't be able to live up to his draft slot as a Blue Bomber, and I knew that by the time he was even an average player he'd be at the end of his lifespan as a Blue Bomber, so even if he ends up being a good player, he's not a good player for us. It's pretty easy to tell the guys that are receivers in CIS, and the guys like Parker and Etienne who just blow by inferior athletes but don't have enough game to be useful pros. To Etienne's credit, he has come a lot farther than Parker has in that respect, but he'll always lose when he has to battle to gain leverage on DB's. Regardless of what Etienne does in Saskatchewan, just a horrendous draft pick for the Bombers. At least it only cost us Jyles.
  15. Jovon has been terrible the last two seasons, with or without Hefney.
  16. My bad...I expected it to be a shot.
  17. Wiecek is lucky he's covering the Bombers in 2014 and not 1994 with his attitude. He'd have been long frozen out by the Bombers staff and players, even in 2014 he deserves to be. Should be interesting to see him spar with a guy like Korey Banks, Wiecek hasn't really dealt with a strong veteran player who will tell him where to go the way a guy like Stegall would. Even had the nerve to comment negatively on Willy's suit in his article.
  18. There aren't 2 bye weeks back-to-back like in previous years. Every team will have 2 bye weeks but they are staggered throughout the season. The schedule will be set up like it was when the Renegades were playing: http://www.cfl.ca/schedule/year/2005/time_zone/0 No it won't be the same as when the Renegades played, and that's why they need an extra week. There won't be any teams that have to play 2 games in a week because of the schedule imbalance. To balance it, everyone gets 2 bye weeks. Schedule will likely need to move up a week in future years, unless they are willing to have a December Grey Cup.
  19. There is no way Hamilton will dangle Glenn to anyone given he's under contract to Ottawa. Fair point. I think, with 600K tied up in 2 QBs, that OTT will still cut KG in camp. Henry will NOT accept Glenn breathing down his neck. Even if Glenn (God forbid) was on life support and breathing with the help of a respirator, Henry would not feel comfortable. We may be able to get Glenn much like how Calgary got him after we were forced to cut him to avoid paying his bonus. Glenn went from Winnipeg to Hamilton to Calgary to Ottawa.
  20. Only in 2000 when he finally decided to just hand the ball to Drummond and Millington.
  21. Walters did mention Brad Sinopoli who played most of last season for the Stamps but as the story goes when Walters mentioned his name Mack said "who is Brad Sinopoli"? Walters also apparently wanted Scott Mitchell over Henoc Muamba. Nobody is bullet proof. Source? I recall Muamba being a unanimous pick for the Bombers, in fact Walters did a lot of the leg work that upped his stock. Etienne was the guy who had 5 good minutes at the combine and got Mack's undies in a bunch.
  22. Better make that deal fast. Foster is a free agent in 5 days.
  23. You're right. The league should never let any new QB's in, they all must be part of the "starter" club. Willy has the same numbers Mike Reilly did heading into last off-season, and has thrown twice as many passes as Reilly had at that point. No.. Not saying willy is **** because he hasn't started.. You see My blue colored have faded to clear lenses.. Willy may become the next great bomber QB.. but the probability of that statically is pretty low.. He is unproven and until he proves that he is better then Hall or proves himself to be the next starter, Hes what he was.. A backup. I'm hoping he plays at the same level as reilly did.. But i'm realistic in beleiving our o-line is not conducive to slowing down the rush of the game for inexperience Qbs. Sask had a monster O-line Giving their Qbs lots of time to settle into the game and find open recievers.. Vs our offence being built around having outlet passes because we can't handle the rush.. Sask's OL was terrible for large chunks of 2013 due to injury...they had to start Neufeld out of ratio desperation for 2012...remember Willy's scrambling in the Banjo Bowl...must have been due to a monster OL. And guess which OL was better at run blocking in 2012?
  24. Etienne had some moments, and he certainly never backed down, but on the whole he just never could compete physically. He's got very good hands, but doesn't mean a whole lot when you can't get loose very often.
