No it doesn't. The SMS does not run on a calendar year. A new year starts in either mid-February (at the start of the FA period) or the beginning of March (I can't remember which date off the top of my head). The SMS runs on the calendar year. The only way they can apply cap money from this season forward is if they convince guys they want to sign to extensions to take money up front. High probability that Burke does not quite understand this as he spouts off.

If it is 3 years after they complete their first year of eligibility, that means after their 4th year of CIS eligibility. The only change is that it was previously 4 years (of time, not eligibility) after first enrolling at CIS or NCAA school. Previously, a guy who redshirted in CIS could be drafted after his 3rd year of eligibility, that's the situation Coombs is in. They should just have guys declare for the draft when they are ready, whether they are 19 or 24, regardless of eligibility. Imagine if you're a CIS guy who has CFL talent in your 2nd year, but you are leaving school. When can you be drafted now? If you go to play in the CJFL, are you no longer draft eligible as you would have been before as someone who enrolled in a CIS or NCAA school (like Pencer).

Seriously? Give me a break. Such a double standard lol The only media person in Winnipeg who I find can keep an objective mind is Ed Tait, or at least present an objective view. The rest are severely clouded by who they do and don't like personally, who gives them what in terms of information and scoops. Irving was pathetic on the post-game show making excuses for Burke and rationalizing his gaffes. Penton and Friesen openly campaign against anyone they don't like who works for the Bombers. It became pretty clear early on that criticism of Mack had a personal tinge to it from many media in the city. That's not to say that he did a good job, but the media portrayals of people involved with this team are an absolute joke.

We don't need 3 IMP OL. I hope Pencer isn't sitting down. These meaningless games are the perfect time to develop him.

So it will basically be that once you set your protected list you can't make trades, not an all out moratorium on player movement between the trade deadline and expansion draft as some have suggested.
-
If the league said it, you'd be able to find it pretty easily.

Based on Austin's clear frustration with Burris, I wouldn't be surprised if he loses his job before this season ends. There is clear confidence in Lefevour from Austin. You can just tell from Austin's body language on the sideline with Burris and while Burris is playing that he can't stand having the guy as his QB.

I guess as long as there is a good backup. Harris is a free agent is he not? Likely #2 and #3 will be gone with at least 3 teams heavily hunting QB's in the off-season. If Ray misses half of next season, then what?

You don't think they take a combo of Willy and Glenn? At most Ottawa will draft 1 QB. They need/want to stock up NI's in the draft, and drafting a QB gives that team the opportunity to protect more NI's. Collaros, Willy, Glenn are all free agents anyways. And of those three, if you were the GM...which one would you set your sites on talent wise only?. except in Glenn's case I guess age would have to be a factor Glenn's not a winner. A guy who threw 12 passes before this season takes over the 4th quarter of a close game while he fades away. Personally I'd have zero interest in Glenn as a starter if I were Ottawa, or any CFL team if I'm setting the goal at winning a Grey Cup. I'd target BLM heavily, offer Calgary the 1st overall pick in the draft and a high pick in 2015 too. Willy hasn't played enough, and while I like that Collaros has that mentality where he's able to put it all together in the 4th quarter, I have some doubts that he's working in a great environment for a young QB with Milanovich on a very good football team that would be hard to replicate elsewhere. I'm not sure Collaros could step onto a bad team and make them a good team. I think BLM is much more likely to be that guy, he's got the best arm (all things considered, strength accuracy placement) of all the QB's in the league IMO and he doesn't lack poise. McPherson had a nearly perfect QB rating as a starter with Milanovich BTW. That's when he was the next big thing.

I'd be considering it big time. Ray has missed a lot of games over the last two seasons and he probably has more trade value. Big SMS hit too.

No kidding. To blame a DB who is trying to make a play and made multiple plays in the game for one play when you were outscored 35-7 (that 7 being a defensive TD) over the better part of 3 quarters is completely gutless. Hard to believe a coach could be so inept as to say something like that about any of his players publicly, but Burke is doing it week after week. The only reason a coach should ever publicly shame a player is if they aren't playing 110%.

Or 3 feet too high. He needs to settle his feet down. Reilly has 3 guys in his face and he can stop his feet to make a throw. Hall never does. He turns an open receiver into a covered one because he can't place the ball.

To me it looked like the Esks made adjustments to our scheme after the first quarter. I guess it takes more than four weeks to rebuild a playbook.... What gets me about the play calling is when we get down to little time left, the calls are to run the running back into the middle even though we haven't been able to do that all game. With Ford he has so much speed to the outside, run him there, takes more time off the clock and he has a chance to bust one for good yards. Most run plays aren't designed to go to a certain gap, it's zone blocking so Ford is reading the blocking and defense. IMO Ford is actually better than Simpson at running zone. Those misdirection plays worked well because they sucked the contain man in and Ford could get around the edge. If Ford reads the WIL and rush end taking an outside leverage, he's going to hit it inside and try to make a cut. Read option didn't work at all because Hall isn't quick enough to beat contain even if the contain man takes a step inside. The worst play call of the game was Goltz QB Draw. Everyone knows that is coming. If there isn't trust in his ability to make a throw, don't put him on the field.

Playing defense first in OT is the standard choice in this format. If you can find a CFL or NCAA game where the team that won the coin toss puts their offense out first, I'd be surprised. Personally, I don't understand why. You're putting pressure on your defense, and if the opposition scores a TD, your offence comes out under tremendous pressure against a defense with nothing to lose really, at worst for them it is tied with another round to play. Can take a lot more risks in that position.

There's nothing personal in here. There was nothing personal about Lawless. All the fat bald ugly stuff just came from you. If you are offended by people being critical about a sports columnists trade proposals, a quarterbacks play, or a football coach's in-game decision-making, why bother coming to a football fan message board?
-
Irving is a great play by play voice. His analysis is terribly subjective. He likes Burke, he liked Lapolice. He'll spend hours rationalizing the decisions they make that lose football games.
-
Huh? He's the only person on the panel not making excuses for Burke and his downright poor decisions. Everything that happened after Edmonton's FG was crazy. Taking a kickoff makes zero sense. Edmonton isn't going to kick a ball that will be returnable, they aren't that stupid. All that is going to do is waste time, and possibly lead to a scramble for the ball with (shaky) Ford back there. Exact same thing I said about Palardy, I'll say about Goltz now. If you don't have any confidence in him to make a throw and play quarterback, cut him and put someone else in there. 23 seconds and 1 timeout= 3 plays and a kick attempt. Crime against humanity to take knees there. If they want a season ticket base above 15,000 next season, Burke can't be back.

Braley to sell both teams in 3 years
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The problem with Toronto is venue. It's a losing proposition playing in that cavern. They get themselves into a facility more suited to the CFL .. the organization becomes a lot more palatable. The bigger problem is that there is no venue as of the end of the 2017 season, notwithstanding any behind the scenes wheel spinning. Also that the franchise has a 2 decade record of financial futility. -

The Argos only hope is MLSE. Hopefully the league doesn't allow a group like Cynamon and Sokalowski who were bankrolled by the rest of the league and flubbed away any hope the Argos had of having a football facility to play in. I feel like the league will end up operating the Argos. -
Depth Chart - Week #13 - Esks @ Bombers
JuranBoldenRules replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's nearly impossible to call plays based on who is on the field and who is not when guys are rotating. Labbe already plays in some of our 2nd and long packages, so it really won't make a difference, Sherman essentially takes the dime role. We will have more NI's on the field than necessary for many plays. -
You're probably right. That transaction probably just indicates that the Argos let him go to join our roster. Last time I can remember us starting two American tackles the same week we brought them in was in 05 when we brought in John Feugill and Dan Goodspeed. Feugill had played with the Argos before though. At least one of those guys turned out, hopefully one of these two does.

Matt Norman stunk at guard. BC was extremely desperate and he stood in relatively well. They didn't really have another option, and they've been in that position where they are tossing guys to the wolves for several seasons now, including bringing in a guy who had essentially been banished from the league (Jesse Newman), dressing a coach who had been retired (Kelly Bates), bring in a 450 lb'er who couldn't play on the worst line in the league (Kabongo) and Angus Reid, who they've been trying to replace since 2009. Norman is a good fit at centre because he is never going to fire out of his stance and move someone, at his best he'll get in the way and maybe seal a gap in the run game at least get his ass toward the ball, but you hardly see BC run anything but off-tackle because to try to hide their OL.
-
Too bad they couldn't bring in at least one tackle with some CFL experience given they'd be playing after two practices. Even if these guys are supremely talented it could be a mess out there, although that wouldn't stay too far from the norm.
