  1. Boatman and an IMP receiver sit down.
  2. Most of this is absurd. Personally the only roster management issue I have with this roster is using Ford as a DI. He can't return punts, he's so-so on kickoffs and we don't run the ball. Volny can play well enough to take some snaps when Simpson needs a break. I'd use that DI spot on a receiver (assuming we don't have a worthy returner who can do kickoffs and punts) who can replace Simpson or one of the other IMP receivers for some snaps and maybe give us a different look.
  3. I wouldn't expect a backup QB in another system to be able to come here mid-season and be successful. Moves like that need to be made in the off-season.
  4. Why? The only part of our offense consistently sucking is the guy not reading blitzes and making terrible throws.
  5. Brink is mobile but tends to turn into a statue in the pocket, which led to loads of sacks, fumbles and ints as he got hit as he threw. He also looks into the rush when he scrambles, so he's not going to make good throws when he's scrambling. Brink can't do enough in the pocket to be a CFL QB, which goes for a bunch of those guys like McPherson, Jyles, Porter, Reilly is starting to look that way. That is what separated Elliott from Brink and that group as a prospect, he showed an ability to be a passer, although he still needed some refining and experience. Unfortunately, Burke and Crowton were not fans of his approach.
  6. Most of the sacks Buck had time, locked on his first read and didn't scramble or get rid of the ball. The only sack I'd pin on the OL was the one on the second last possession where Boatman let Knowlton through his inside gap because he stepped out on the outside rusher, not Morley's fault as he took the DT on his inside gap. Pass blocking is all from the outside in when making a pocket.
  7. Charleston Hughes is one of the most dominant players in the league.
  8. Their offence has no intelligible purpose. It is just brutal, like they don't understand how to get guys open downfield. The other bit is the use of motion. Looks like the OC is the last kid to get the latest toy. Everyone else up here is already used to the motion, all the movement parallel to the line of scrimmage isn't going to fool anyone, and the motion they are using across the formation is actually telling the defence where the ball is going. They put up points in week 1 on short fields because of turnovers, but they've been discombobulated since the first snap of the season.
  9. Some of our fluky turnovers are making up for the ducks Durant tosses up that should be picked and aren't.
  10. 2 of Tate's 3 injuries have been overuse injuries in his throwing arm/shoulder. Not a good sign for his durability.
  11. Not to mention that if the ball was still loose, Bowman's frog splash on Goltz should have been called loose ball interference.
  12. In terms of replacing guys, it is easier to find a kicker who is consistent inside 40 than NI starters.
  13. It isn't right away, Ottawa will own their rights for two months before Feb 15. Even if they can't sign the player, they can trade their rights to someone else who can. I wouldn't take too many risks.
  14. Because the expansion draft happens before Feb 15, in December.
  15. I can't see any situation where H Muamba is not protected. Is everyone on the roster not eligible for the draft, even if they are a free agent on Feb 15?
  16. Personally, I think it is crap that they get to pick imports other than QB's from teams. They should be able to fill their roster with imports through CFL free agency and scouting. A nail is going to be put in the coffin of a lot of CFL careers for the imports taken by Ottawa. For the NI's, life with 9 teams couldn't be better. Guys who haven't played in 2-3 years will come out of the woodwork because of the shortage of talent. Too early to pick a QB, but it wouldn't be Pierce. Other imports: Turner Matthews Dunn (if he keeps playing well) Sears Washington January Hall Anderson Gilmore Simpson (maybe, I'd consider Denmark and Stewart too) NI's H Muamba Watson C Muamba Greaves Swiston Pencer
  17. What's stopping teams from putting a poison pill in all of it's contracts of guys they want to keep? $10,000 for every game played in Ottawa.
  18. Sears has played SAM the last two pre-seasons he was healthy (11 and 12). He's suited for it. He can play corner too. Perhaps with Dunn playing well right now, that would be a consideration, but it wouldn't be because Sears is uncomfortable there or a poor fit.
  19. We're really playing big ends at tackle in Burke/Creehan's scheme. It is all built to defend the pass and rush the passer. Hopefully no one comes out with a gameplan to just run it down our throats, teams like BC, Saskatchewan and Calgary who will establish the run tend to demolish this defence. It really is built to slow down Calvillo.
  20. Which NI would come off for Lucas? Maybe Green, but we are really low on special teamers to cover kicks, and Thomas or Lucas can't really fill that role. Also have some doubt that they'd toss Woods in there right away. We have Washington who can do some punts, Denmark too is a bit less explosive but he'll catch the punt.
  21. Getting the most out of players would include execution IMO. That is why they practice, watch film and prepare for games. We have one of three phases of the game executing at a level good enough to win games right now.
  22. More likely that Harris comes off. Sounds like Turner could be out for awhile though with a serious rib injury.
  23. I agree with that a little bit. The Bomber coaches on D knew where the weakness was and exploited it, which is basically what has been happening since Burke came here in 2011. Move Calvillo off his first read, and he is in trouble because their OL isn't great. Montreal is running a new offence, but at the core of it, an OL needs to hold his inside gap and get their hands on someone in pass blocking. Can't recall a professional game where a team consistently was getting home nearly untouched through the interior without sending more than 4 or 5. On the one sack, all 5 Bombers rushing ended up on top of Calvillo and Montreal was called for holding. It was an embarrassing display by the guys lining up for the Als along the OL, regardless of what the Bombers did and what the new scheme is.
  24. Tate has a pocket presence and ability to move around while keeping his eyes downfield that not many QB's have who make it to Canada.
  25. All it takes is one major breakdown. Had one in a one score game in the opener, very close to another one late in another one score game allowing a guy to completely reverse field and break contain. That can't happen, it wasn't a great play by Devine other than recognizing the contain guy trying to be a hero instead of forcing him inside. Much like all the turnovers, that shows a lack of discipline. I think it is unfair to the coaches (other than Creehan, Plemons and the DB coach) to say they are getting the best out of the players. Loads of room for improvement.
