The OC in Lapo's world would always just be a puppet, like Baressi was. Lapo wants to be a playcaller. This setup rarely works in the CFL or NFL, takes a special coach, which Lapo isn't.

Jerseys are UFL quality. Crap for a league with an actual history, especially for a team celebrating their 60th season. Paw prints should be avoided IMO. Hufnagel made some bad calls. Giving up a safety with 2 mins left to make it a 4 point deficit was the end of the game. Needs to have some faith in his special teams and defence. Also keep wondering why his 3rd best QB is starting. Dunigan tore a pretty good strip off Glenn for his wasting of about 30 seconds of clock on the last Stamps drive in the hurry-up.

The fact he could even get near some of those passes behind him is impressive.

A Clear Explanation For BB Woes
JuranBoldenRules replied to Snowboy's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No leadership at any level in the organization, no accountability at the top. The structure doesn't work as it is, hasn't worked with hundreds of board members over the last 20+ years. Time for real change, hopefully the stadium debt and much lower revenue than projected will be the catalyst that the disaster on the football side for decades has not been. -
Yes, he hit guys that were open, that's not throwing guys open. Kohlert finished his route and caught the pass all by himself in the endzone with a corner breaking off his zone to try to defend, I'm talking about hitting guys on slants, digs, outs and back shoulder fades on the sideline while they are being defended, basically how Matthews got his 1000 yards last season. There were a couple brutal throws to Etienne where he ran a perfect dig in man coverage and if Hall puts it anywhere within 3 yards of Etienne's path it's an easy completion in coverage, but he put the ball behind Etienne right to the DB. Hall will throw a lot of picks.

Aaron Woods? Need to find a way to get him involved on offence, he was a great NCAA receiver, and he's got that little ball of hate mentality when he has the ball.
-
I'd be shopping Watson and Poblah for trade during this season. I don't think Poblah will succeed here, and I don't think Watson is going to last much longer, at least as an elite level player. He's one of those guys who is never really healthy, even when he is "healthy." If we can get a 1st or 2nd round pick for either I'd take it. Montreal has nothing at NI receiver and are probably going to make a push since Calvillo is near the end.

I didn't see Hall hitting a lot of windows. He hit one nicely on a slant to Matthews. His release isn't particularly quick, and his feet don't stop moving (which might explain the flutter in his throws). Most of his completions were lobs to guys wide-open, or great catches by Edwards, he didn't throw anyone open. He made a nice pass to Edwards down the seam, but any QB with pro potential can make that throw. It was nice to see the ball go downfield a bit more, but I feel like Hall is going to have problems the more he plays because he puts the ball up for grabs all the way down the field.

Anything Hall threw over about 5 yards hung out there, very Dinwiddie-esque. He'll have some 5 INT games. If we have any shot to win games with someone on our roster today, it's Goltz, even with his faults.
-
Pierce needs to replace Matthews yesterday. Matthews is a negative player for us in a vital position, not only struggling, but negatively impacting the entire offence.

Watching the secondary closely when the play was in front of me, most of the breakdowns appear to be on C Muamba. He takes a very deep drop (essentially taking himself out of the play) and is always 3 or 4 yards late. He's covering turf (a general problem for this secondary in zone) and not covering receivers or playing the ball because he's worried about getting beat deep. He doesn't have a clue. The most useful thing he's done this season is blitz. We'd almost be better off dropping another guy in the box and sending extra rushers in a zone blitz to disrupt the QB's timing than having C Muamba playing DEEP safety. The same 7 yard pass to the inside slot on a hook was there every first down. Hamilton must have run that play 15 times successfully. If we're going to suck we could at least be a bit of a speed bump. Hard to imagine the same guys were responsible for the 2011 defence, it is like they've lost 50 IQ points each since then.
-
He is brutal. Can't make a play on the ball, that first deep ball vs Calgary showed how useless he is. He had ample time to get to the ball, he stopped to get a read on the ball then started for it and stopped again about 3 yards too early. He can't even get in the way. I hope we aren't too far from giving West or Sherman a look.
-
They were all on Simpson, Goltz pulls it and he's in the 2nd level (first down) with the possibility of more if he can beat a HB. He needs to read that end on his right, they are attacking his inside or outside gap depending on what he shows, he went inside (B or 4) the ball and Goltz needed to go outside (C or 6). Goltz's TD was almost exactly the same, except he made the right choice on that one.
-
So what was wrong with play call? It was a read play, instead of pulling it and busting contain when both ends crashed in, Goltz gave it to Simpson with three Lions already there. Bad read, nothing wrong with the call. That is Goltz's bread and butter, he sucks on sneaks from under centre, IMO that is exactly what every OC in the league would call in that spot with Goltz.

Hawkins Fired In Mtl, Popp To Take Over As Hc
JuranBoldenRules replied to Fraser's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Intimidation probably isn't the best word to describe it. It's way harder to gain the respect of pros and even higher level college players (Big 12 vs WAC), and it was pretty obvious early on that Hawkins was not respected by the Als. -

Hawkins will only have success in non-AQ NCAA football where intimidation still works as a motivator. Not a pro coach, not even a great college coach and a ridiculous hire. -
How Long Before The Club Makes A Big Move
JuranBoldenRules replied to Brandon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
"Community" ownership means the team is ultimately owned by the city and province. When it teeters on the brink of financial ruin, it'll be the city and province bailing it out with loans, for example the last time the Bombers got to keep city entertainment taxes collected on Bomber tickets. -
How Long Before The Club Makes A Big Move
JuranBoldenRules replied to Brandon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think this will end up happening in the not too distant future. The Bombers won't be able to service the debt for very long, the provincial government will take pennies on the dollar and TNSE will get the team for basically nothing in exchange for taking the liability from the city and province. -
Stamps @ Bombers -- Gdt -- Game Day: We All Play
JuranBoldenRules replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I wouldn't go that far. They did almost everything they could to put a home game on a platter for the Eskimos to win in the 4th quarter. -
The passes are sold through the Bombers/Ticketmaster. Doesn't mean they are getting the money and they aren't. Any parking revenue they are getting is offset by increased costs of transportation. The university is getting the bulk of it. The loan has increased by over $10 million over the life for some extras they added, and they haven't made a payment in the first two years of the loan.
-
Bombers get zero from parking, university is reaping those profits. Revenues will be higher, but they need to turn an operating profit of $4.5 million to service the debt. They've only done that 2006 (Grey Cup). They are paying more for transportation, policing etc than they budgeted. The margins are razor thin, there isn't $500,000 to spend on a coach while paying two others.
-
Any stand run by Ovations.

Dickenson gets paid as much as our HC now. There is no chance the Bombers could afford to pay Burke for 2 seasons, Mack for 1 and hire Higgins, Forde and Dickenson for what they would command.
