  1. You gotta have some good **** for Streveler and the running backs this week.
  2. This "film room" segment on OB pregame is so useless. Wish they'd cover the team and upcoming game.
  3. Mike Sims-Walker. They thought he was going to be something big but he basically failed his physical and took months to get into shape, then got hurt right away when he did get on the roster.
  4. There's a long stretch where Terence Edwards was our best, another stretch with Clarence Denmark. I wouldn't consider either of those guys better than a poor 2nd option in their prime. Ideally 3rd. Like even in 2011 we had almost nothing consistent at receiver. Our #1 target would have been a good #3 guy on a strong offense.
  5. Then you have a poor memory as a fan of this franchise.
  6. Realistically though that's a couple week process. Like maybe they could have plopped Alston in there. If they sign someone I'd expect them to play the second week unless we literally didn't have the bodies to fill the roster.
  7. I'd rather have Mitchell or Alston on than Alexander on D. Kramdi and Cole are basically DB's so even without Alexander we'd have 8 DB's dressed. That's a crazy thin receiver group just in terms of numbers given how inexperienced they are. Hopefully they have some packages with Smith and Oliviera/Augustine out there together....maybe with Streveler....
  8. That receiving corps is something. Hopefully Johnson has some game.
  9. A lot of double clutching by both QB's in this one.
  10. I wouldn't be worried with overall fitness of most of these guys whether they got "reps" or not and certainly not Schoen, but your statement makes no sense to me. Say a receiver showed up 40 pounds overweight and they put him on the field. That guy is far more likely to have his knee or achilles blow up. Happens to us out of shape middle aged people all the time when we try to be athletic again.
  11. Watched this guy his whole career at NDSU. He's good enough to get a legit shot as an American player. Easy 1st round pick. Mardner was 2nd overall in a great draft. Very comparable. Top receiver on a run heavy team at NDSU, weak QB in 2022 who got better in 2023 (QB likely to be CFL prospect too, Cam Miller still at NDSU). Guy that was used lots downfield, screens, intermediate, full route tree. I'd expect there'd be half the league or more bidding their 1st rounder.
  12. Protecting mobile QBs is way harder. But that aspect makes it a lot harder on defences in terms of coverage vs pass, and the zone read/RPO stuff really compromises run coverage too. But in terms of pure protection having a QB that lives on 5-7 step drops is probably the easiest to protect for a OL. But that QB needs somewhere to go with the ball in a reasonable time frame.
  13. Eli had no reps pass protecting last week. So if you're looking at PFF grades they are basically irrelevant as a comparison tool for him. Not arguing against some changes in the line for at least some stretches, just pointing that out. There's some work for media to do here. But they don't really exist. There's clearly a significant reason why Eli's reps are so limited. That's been kept under wraps but a little digging with some sources would reveal it pretty quickly. Then the question is are you better off running with him until he can't go anymore or playing him 15 snaps a game? Some of that digging could be around why we always dress 7 OL for the past two seasons?
  14. BLM's top target is Shemar Bridges. CFL rookie. BC has got some big plays and first down catches from 3 CFL rookies. One of whom they've cut with guys coming back off injured list. Calgary looks to have a solid SB in Echols. Als have receivers coming out the wazoo. We have a guy out there who yes went to Florida State, but looks like he's going to trip on his **** every snap.
  15. There's a huge issue with next man up/roles being defined by seniority for sure. There's a bigger issue with evaluation. Hard to tell if if it's personnel, coaching or both. It's not like our cuts are going onto other teams or even other leagues and lighting it up. The receiver competition this season was demoralizing. Like we have 20 guys in camp and the best you break camp with are Wilson and Mitchell? Then you see guys on BC, Hamilton, Montreal, Calgary tearing it up. There's also the issue of evaluating our own guys. Like how did they watch Alexander last year and think that's a guy to bring back as opposed to a rookie DB using that little bit of extra money on say Grant instead of a rookie returner? Grant is definitely losing a step but it's also a step down from being arguably the greatest CFL returner of all time, still a good player and still far better, more reliable than anyone else we've seen in the role the past two seasons. Bighill has basically been trash for two full seasons. Could use that money to chase after CFL free agents in their prime while we are a prime, winning destination.
  16. We need a rush end. We have plenty of interior guys, both nationalities. We need another edge guy. Fayad looks decent, but need to get Jefferson off the field more as well as compliment him if he's going to be useful at all.
  17. I'd still like to see Johnson or Alston on for Wilson. Guy just hasn't seemed to build any connection with Collaros and missed too many plays. Time to try someone else. Oakman is one of the most overrated players in the history of football.
  18. The only thing sunk are signing bonus and any roster bonus/salary already earned. The rest is all salary just structured like that for tax purposes. That salary on each game cheque is what is subtracted from the team overall number against salary management system at end of the year for salary earned during full 6 game IL stints. Schoen and Lawler both in that 8000-9000 range on game cheque. The whole league hardly does significant performance bonuses anymore. You'll see guys with like a few thousand bucks for CFL all-star or even league awards. QB's usually have a few hundred per game they play 50% plus of snaps if not starter.
  19. If Schoen is out for the rest of the season that's $125,000 right there for example. If Lawler sits the full 6 that'll be like $70,000. Keep in mind if you signed a guy to play half a season you'd pay $100,000 hard cash for a "$200,000" salary. Not that there's $200,000 players sitting around. Like someone said it will likely come in handy more for building the 2025 team. Maybe you dump a bunch of Collaros salary into 2024, re-sign Schoen.
  20. He's the body type we need. Seemed like a vertical type guy for BC. Wonder what happened there.
  21. He was here last season when they were playing real games so he’d have a significant leg up on someone who was here in camp and likely didn’t experience any real game planning…one would think anyway. They’d know something about him. Need to replace 6’3 and 6’4
  22. Need a guy who can step in and play. With rapport with Collaros. How much would any of the later cuts run with Collaros in camp? Probably not much. We only had a handful of longer receivers in camp. Alston, Wheatfall, Keyaton Thompson, Bryce Mitchell. The only guy who even made it to final cut was Wheatfall. It's not like they gave him 200k a year and guaranteed money.
  23. Think he actually pulled out some wins with all time D and special teams in terms of scoring and turning ball over....and a lot of that time period without truly great players. Now has become super lax in those departments as a QB/Receiver driven team. Bizarre to me. It's like they aren't coaching the D to attack the ball, which was a hallmark of our team before 2021. Special teams they are hoping doesn't cost them points, not that they will gain points from it.
