I mean there's no way to block for a guy who can't catch the punt to set up a return. The whole concept of blocking on punts is basically to slow guys down on their release to give space and then recover to tie guys up when you have the ball. There's always going to be multiple guys who appear unblocked. It's all on the return man to get it going.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall when they made their decisions on 20 receivers competing in camp and came up with Wilson and Mitchell as the winners. Mitchell especially was a hot mess in preseason games. Seems to me there might be 1-2 guys in those cuts we might be able to bring back. Obviously Johnson is already here so he should get a shot at the SB spot.

The comparison was to Reilly and Brown had thrown more than 2x the passes Reilly did by the time he was given the franchise job in Edmonton with far better results. Brown is as proven as anyone in this era before they get a starting job. He’s a very good QB today and quite likely to be a great one.

Hard to tell if that’s Myron Mitchell trying to hit the seam in a return or Ontaria Wilson trying to catch a pass.

Other thing is you drop some of these guys in January you free up free agent money. Obviously we have a lot in 4 guys on O but...Bighill/Wilson, Jefferson, Neufeld, Alexander...move on from them bring in a couple solid CFL guys and a replace a couple with young guys. Are we a better team? Maybe we go get Pickett or someone like that on D. Get a bit of refresh.

Some parts of it. Harris basically dragged us into the cup in 21. A lot of key pieces from back then not here anymore. Never replaced them. For one, Jeffcoat. Jefferson isn't a guy who is consistently productive without a real solid pass rusher opposite.

He returned some kickoffs in college but don't see him having any punt returns there or in spring leagues. It's kind of it's own thing. Guys are returners or they aren't. He ain't clearly.

I don't disagree that it was time to move on from Grant. He's just busted up, also lacking that burst consistently since he came back from the last round of injuries in 2023. But surely to hell we can find someone (or multiple) useful guys. Pretty sure Montreal and Calgary have run through about 5 each the last 3 or so years.

I have no idea how they'd evaluate returners in practice. They can't really run special teams plays anywhere close to 100% in practice. That's one spot as a coach you have to evaluate in live reps because a guy could look just great snapping down a punt with no pressure and jogging off while being useless in a real game. Basically what we're seeing in real time with Mitchell.

He's getting beat physically repeatedly. He's a part of the problem. Maybe he'd look less shitty next to two all-stars, but he's not a good player at this point.

I would like to know how they evaluate truly. Mitchell didn't even return a punt in 2 preseason games. What did they see in practice to hand him such a crucial role? Certainly didn't look good as a receiver in preseason.

Averaging 14 points a game through 2 and that's including a total garbage time/points after beatdown TD vs Montreal.

My concern with O'Shea is that he thinks he has the winning formula and he'll never realize/admit that the formula has changed.

Should have a package with Streveler and running backs out of pistol, option/RPO stuff. We only ran him under centre with the backs blocking on the edge in no position to get the ball. No drop backs for him. Not a weapon being used like this.

Majority of the guys who won jobs out of our camp look like complete ****. Bonds is kinda meh. Couple massive breakdowns, teams attacking him with waggle and doesn't know what to do. Hopefully improves. Receivers/returners are trash. Wheatfall looks good. Overall team doesn't look ready to play, young and old.

Ontaria Wilson can stay in Ontario.

Well it likely won't be until they are injured or after this season. The time to make the big moves was January.

Wilson and Mitchell could fly home right from Ottawa. How the **** do those guys win that 20 guy competition for receiver/returner spots?
