I'm not that surprised either. There have been a lot of changes made since the season ended and I think fans see things are being done differently from the past. Most of the moves have been well received and, probably the biggest factor of all, the media hatchets haven't been out much.

His long-term girlfriend also lives in Winnipeg. Good, Winnipeg chicks should really work harder on locking some of these guys down.... Jacquie? WOO HOO! Boy toy hunting I'm a goin'!! I'm afraid those days are behind me. I would have to use the "I'll be your Winnipeg mother" angle to hook any of them. But I'll support your efforts however I can.

The Vega signing was announced in a press release - not at a press conference. There is a press conference later this morning. Which is why I removed my comment while you were posting.

Gary Etcheverry interviewed for Bombers DC job
Jacquie replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
This is what ModAdmin was referring to: Arash Madani @ArashMadani 19 Dec FWIW, the #Bombers emphatically denied Kavis Reed will be their next def coordinator. This after I was told Stubler was Calgary bound. #CFL So far Madani is the only one who has reported that as far as I know. -
I would think it's just a press release and not an actual press conference at that time.

Got an email from the Bombers saying they will be making a player announcement before 8:00 am Monday morning. Anyone have any ideas who the announcement will be about?

Merry Christmas everyone.

Kit Cartwright was OC in 2007 and 2008. Gibson was here in 2005 and 2006.

O'Shea did play for Etcheverry in Toronto - a couple years when Etcheverry was DC and when he was HC. -

After Etcheverry left the Riders I remember some of their players saying Etcheverry didn't use a defensive playbook. -
I'm going with Hallelujah.

Stubler New Stamps Defensive Coordinator
Jacquie replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It was reported that the Bombers asked permission to speak to Stubler just before it was announced BC wasn't renewing his contract but do we really know whether O'Shea actually talked to him about the job. At the press conference when they announced MB was returning O'Shea did say he had been concentrating on getting an OC hired because there were so many teams looking for one. -
I thought I read somewhere that MB had said the offence will feature a lot of things he's learned over the past 1-1/2 years from visiting various teams (something like that). If that's the case I wonder how much of his past playbook is still being used now. It's possible it could be a completely new playbook compared to his times in SK, Montreal and Hamilton.

IIRC, after he was named OC didn't MB say QB decisions were up to the HC.

So who got bent over the worst by the Exp Draft?

Hufnagel talks about the draft: http://www.cfl.ca/article/hufnagel-im-not-real-pleased-about-the-day -
As has been pointed out, MB was OC in Montreal in 2007 - the year AC left the team to be with his wife while she was battling cancer and the year they had Charlie Carpenter as oline coach and the Als oline gave up the most sacks by far (65). A.C. played in over two thirds of the game that year (13). That OL had among other perenial all-star and potential hall of famer Scott Flory.A.C., Cahoon, Watkins, Edwards, Flory is a pretty good base of talent to work with. Doesn't mean they were good in 2007. Scott Flory was the only Als' olineman named to the Eastern all-star team that year. The biggest difference between 2007 and 2008 was a change in the blocking schemes. They were bad in 2007.

I was referring to Penton's picks. Now if you agree Calgary was the big winner in the draft that's your choice. As for the rest, I don't give a damn what the media think since IMO most of them are idiots who form their opinions of the Bombers based on the writings of Penton, Friesen, Lawless and Wiecek. -

Anyone see Penton's take on the draft's winners and losers? He had Calgary as the big winner and, of course, Winnipeg was on the losing side. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/12/16/cfl-expansion-draft-winners-and-losers -
I'm not sure what to think but since O'Shea was the one who hired him then I'm willing to give him a chance. Hasn't that be shown to be untrue since he has interviewed for 2 OC jobs since those comments were allegedly made. I don't know Jacquie. Has he? Maybe he has. There were reports he was being interviewed by the Lions and by us for the OC job iirc.

I think some people are making assumptions over what Desjardin said. We had about 30 NIs. By round 3 we have 12 NIs protected including a few of the 16 NI potential FAs. It could be that they didn't have many signed players to choose from.

I'll believe it when they make the official announcement.

He's with the Vancouver Province. He covers the Lions.
