Rewatched the first half of the LDC tonight...
Jacquie replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Since we don't know what defensive plays are called how can anyone be certain that a player was out of position? -
I would rate it as one of the more realistic neg lists in the league So when Penton had one of his CFL insiders tell him that the Bombers neg list was the worst in the League according to the insider's GM that insider/GM is full of hooey? I think what Mike meant, that since neg list players rarely end up as anything (Remember when Taman neg listed Deion Sanders?) that our neg list have the most potential of ending up on our roster. Penton's source may be right but really means nothing. Pretty much. Put it this way ... Russell Wilson, Robert Griffin and Colin Kaepernick are all still on CFL negotiation lists. So are guys like Doug Martin and Montee Ball. Not an absolute ton of home runs on our negotiation list and I would never claim to know the whole thing, but the guys who have been on there for a reasonably long time are what I'd consider decent bets to come to the CFL (AND be effective -- No Tebows) From my perspective I don't see how a neg list that consists of players who actually might come here can be considered worse than neg lists with pie in the sky players on it like RG3 and Kaepernick. Penton was at it again today because he asked a source about changes to neg lists since NFL cut down day and was told the Bombers haven't made any changes and the Lions have made the most with 13.

I missed that (darn family wants me to actually be with them at half-time ). That's too funny. -

I think I missed something. What are you referring to? -
The article linked to says "But at the urging of head coach Tim Burke, Goltz has also agreed to suspend his post score celebrations." Didn't mention Bellefeuille anywhere.
-
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/Touchdown-celebrations-blown-out-of-proportion-Goltz-222407821.html From the quote in that article it sounds like he was asked if he thought the media picked on him and just used their terminology back at them. The rest of what he said is very true: Then Burke says: So does that mean no more IGF leap (which Burke didn't say anything about either time it was done)?
-
Clement didn't want a PR spot. Why would he come back now?
-
Speaking of neg lists, Mike you seem to have a pretty good idea regarding whose on ours. How would you rate it?
-
Link? From what I've seen in the CBA a player can get medical expenses for up to a year but there's nothing about salary or bonuses that I could find.
-
It's rather amusing to have a discussion of a comment Irving supposedly made that no one here actually heard.
-
I'd like to know how he came up with his $250mil comment. Enclosing the press box ain't gonna cost $50mil. Didn't Buchko say that before the new TV deal was signed?
-
Because if they release Buck they still have to pay him for the rest of the season. Vets salaries are guaranteed after a certain number of games. For Buck, he's been in the league for more than 7 years so his salary was guaranteed after 9 regular season games. A team can't release an injured player during the regular season (unless he agrees to it). Once the season is over they can. It's happened to a lot of players with Fred Reid here, Charles Roberts in BC as just two examples.
-
I wonder how much input Reed had on benching Rottier. I mean a GM making roster decisions - shocking. The only thing I can think of is the guaranteed salary of vets but with Rottier being a 5 year veteran that doesn't kick in until the 10th regular season game.
-
Someone said Burke said on the coach's show that the team is in talks with another CFL team about an o-lineman.
-
And there's more: I can't see the league allowing that.
-
This game is nuts.
-
True. If I use that phrase again when reponding to one of his posts I'll try to remember to add "besides trolling". It would be interesting to know, wouldn't it.
-
You make it sound like he was always away scouting which isn't true. He was at every practice according to Penton. And most teams have others who look after those things as well so I don't know what your point is.
-
Can you even challenge a penalty call or a penalty non-call? You can challenge whether it was an illegal forward pass with the QB over the LOS. It's in the rule book as a specific type of play that can be challenged.

I don't think it was your saying a young executive should get experience but wanting to know why you think it would take another 5-10 years for Walters to have enough experience to be a GM. Hufnagel, Austin, Buono, Higgins, Popp and Barker are just a few examples of people who had coaching experience but little to no front office experience when they got their first GM job. And no I am not comparing Walters to those guys and I'm not even saying I think Walters should get the job. Just asking why 5-10 more years experience rather than say 3-4 more years?Jacquie, here's the thing... Walters is a young guy in his mid 30's. He has very little experience as a CFL coach & has only a few months experience as an AGM. He needs seasoning & experience. But I daresay learning under Mack isn't the way to do it. He needs to work under someone who is a winner. I think a guy who has been an AGM for 5 years or so is ready to step up which is only an arbitrary number in my mind. In 10 years Walters will be in his mid 40's & could still work another 20 years after that in the CFL. Walters is just getting started in his career. .Actually he turned 40 in July. Did you know that Walters and Austin both have the same amount of coaching experience (10 years). Austin has 3 years experience running a football program at the college level while Walters has 4 years. Yes I know Austin was running an Ivy League program and Walters a CIS program however I would think the biggest difference between running the two programs was budget. But then Walters also was our draft coordinator in addition to being a coach so shouldn't that count as some management experience too. Again I'm not saying that Walters should get the job. I just disagree with arbitrarily picking a number and saying this is when he'll be ready.

That play was definitely the turning point in the game. I agree. I hope someone asks about it on the next coach's show. The replay they showed on TSN sure looked like Durant hadn't released the ball when it crossed the LOS. Anything that close should have been challenged. And it wouldn't have been a waste since he didn't use any challenges.
-
I still can't figure out why Burke didn't throw a challenge flag on that play where Durant looked to be over the LOS when he threw the ball. A play that close should have been an automatic challenge imo. SMH

I could be wrong but I don't think it was the addendum that was to be signed when the contract was originally signed that was the issue. I thought it was a letter sent this past off-season saying they were picking up his option year that was the one that was worded badly.
