  1. This team is built for this year and the future. The core this team has brought back can absolutely win but it's also got the depth to maintain success. It really is next man up. Calgary has lost tons of players and remained a good team just because there is a pipeline of talent coming in continuously. Just trust in the plan from the management. It has built a team that is the envy of the rest of a league.
  2. Yeah like within the top 2 picks for this team we're going to take an OL. Just the way it's always done by walters.
  3. Ok so you base it on one receiver who catches jump balls... the ol and no rb are still a major concern. Fajardo is a very limited quarterback and they would have done better focusing on the ground game as opposed to receivers IMO. Fajardo ain't gonna ever be a passing wizard but you have a strong run game (which he would be part of) and focus on the short quick passes that is how you get the most out of him. So basically the opposite of Jason Maas.
  4. it was, but last year was pretty clearly Collaros team. Now Harris took over in the west final no doubt... but that was as much the OL taking over as anything. I am not trying to downplay Harris at all, but we won plenty of games without him last season as well. I think it's completely fair to ask how well he would hold up physically given his last season.
  5. Why is that? Their OL I don't see as being upgraded and their RB signed in Ottawa...
  6. What were his stats like last year?
  7. Gotta think walters is saving some money in the event guys like Desjarlais come back from the NFL. He has never liked spending right to the cap from the get go. Always leave some wiggle room.
  8. Alabamaberta
  9. There's probably a better chance we lose Castillo to the NFL than Edmonton. Look we need to stop and remember how this team was built in the first place. Couple key free agents but mostly it was guys they drafted or recruited. Lose Stove? Well recruit another guy. Lose Lawler? Recruit someone else. Desjarlais to the NFL? Well There's a reason walters drafts olinemen every single draft. Darby was a guy they grabbed in season as an injury replacement. Kyle walters is all about depth.
  10. Sadly they're probably picking their beat and brightest.
  11. It's not about money, it's about how much is left in the tank. Bombers don't trust his body to hold up.
  12. Old, washed up, injury prone, over paid. To hell with him.
  13. We did, but we retained a ton of good players too... and we have a top front office that has shown an ability to bring in players. The fact players from our team are so in demand is a testament to what the Bombers have done. Other teams go "if you can't beat em poach their players." I bet we see some good pick ups on value deals in a few days when the initial frenzy dies down. And he really did bring the cup home after the drought. He's a made man in winnipeg regardless of how it ended.
  14. They saw him every day 2 months ago... and he couldn't practice like all season. Yes he contributed but he was also a part timer all year. I think at 35 at the position he plays it is fair to wonder about his fitness level for a coming season.
  15. The point people are making is that they'd rather be replacing Lawler than say Stanley Bryant or Hardrick, or Bighill, or Jefferson or Jeffcoat.... Before last season people were skeptical Kenny Lawler was even a #1 receiver. He showed flashes but had never been at that level prior. I have faith in our offense to get it done with the group they're putting together. Lawler is a damned good one, but at that kind of money I bet we can get close enough production out of a guy like Ellingson to make it sting less. We do have the QB who won the MOP last year and the best OL in the league still. We have seen it time and time again in the CFL where teams try and make a good offense by blowing it all on receivers, but if you don't have a QB and the OL to give him time it doesn't work. Meanwhile no one in 2019 thought highly of the Bomber receivers and they won the grey cup. Same deal last year. It was sure Lawler is having a good year but half the people wanted bailey cut early and no one else was popping off the page. Won the cup anyway. It's because this team is built to be strong in the key places and have depth to withstand injuries and losses.
  16. Don't like losing Darby or Jones, but if there's one place this regime has proven they can find guys at it's defensive back so I won't worry there yet. Mcguire could wind up being the biggest loss of them all if they don't pull a rabbit out of their hat there... Maybe they're putting a bunch of money aside for Streveler? I dunno.
  17. If I may paraphrase... "we're going to let everyone else go full ***** spending and get some cheap deals when the dust settles and no one else has any cap left"
  18. Riders fielding a defense of entirely linebackers this year?
  19. I don't want to lose Harris but at the same time he's not a long term solution so at some point you gotta replace him. Better to do it before you lose the guys who might be able to do it.
  20. Nah, if teams want to spend their cap space stupidly let them. It ******* sucks to lose Lawler, but for that money I ain't even mad! You don't tie yourself into that sort of spending at a position as relatively replaceable as receiver. I'd rather two guys in the 150 range than 1 guy eating up 300k. Walters has it right. Lock up the trenches and the qb and the rest is easier to piece together.
  21. Continuity vs. Bunch of new guys still learning each other's names.... advantage winnipeg.
  22. Ultimately I think this comes down to age and the fact that Harris spent as much time being injured as he did playing.
  23. Seriously, maybe streveler should come back as a receiver. Could be a bigger payday.
  24. Not to mention the reigning league and grey cup MOP star quarterback.
