And jeffcoat missed a lot of time to injury so moving on wasn't necessarily wrong... but they definitely didn't put in a lot of effort trying to replace the DEs. Nor DTs. Trotting out Jake as if he's Doug brown ain't cutting anything. Jake was a depth guy at his peak and he's well past that now.

I knew this would be the first argument brought up... and there's some validity tonight, but the 1s have looked very similar in the regular season compared to preseason and we can pretty much nail the roster that'll start as soon as camp opens so that shows me that osh has it written in ink from day 1 and it won't change. Honestly I want to see one person provide a good solid justification to having Ayers, a linebacker, as the only DE depth on the roster when our starters are 34 and 32 years old.
-
It's very telling that Mike Oshea never actually retired from playing. He would not ever quit and he's not going to tell one of his guys to quit.
-
I don't think receivers are really the problem on this team. Qb and OL are where I see problems.
-
Ok how many pressures are the DL generating this year? Cause it is usually a linebacker getting pressure. First in those categories last year is one thing but what about this year?
-
But look at what happened in preseason game 2... the starters on D got outperformed badly by the 2s... not a coincidence in my mind. The defensive line is a problem and has been for a couple years. Would really like to know how people feel they really are putting the best people out there...
-
So you've never seen oshea make a mistake in roster construction?
-
We had a really strong roster and won a lot of games as a result, and can still win... but they're getting older and games like last week will be more and more common.
-
We can go back and long way and see roster management problems fro. Osh. Love the guy as a coach but he has flaws in this regard and has for a long time. The problem now is there's a lot of fading stars that get all kinds of rope when they really need to be spelled off more.
-
So big time players under achieved... where was the move to sit then down and see if the rest of the roster can over come it? You really think younger wants an old assed defensive line that struggles to get pressure? Are you really going to be that obtuse? Yes 3 man fronts are the norm... but you could out 3 better players there and have depth so that the old parts don't get gassed after 1 month of the season.
-
But it isn't the bottom 4 positions on the depth chart... it's the middle of the ******* defense... defensive tackle (and defensive line in general) and middle linebacker are pretty ******* important areas. And don't give me that we haven't lost a game because of roster management. We lost 3 grey cups in a row in large part to roster management. Collaros playing hurt in 2022, 3 receivers who couldn't run in 2023... there's issues with how this roster is constructed and to deny that is just dumb.
-
Well preseason he was better... historically he's been more impactful... what else do you want? J. Jones hasn't had the opportunity to get on the field with the Bombers in regular season so your argument ultimately boils down to "well the coaches are infallible when building the roster"... and that's a HARD sell given the history that is there with that aspect. Or was Sam Hurl always there because he was the best option back in the day?
-
I think they still would... if they weren't gassed before they got to the wall. It's like I said before, too much complacency from the coach. I suspect a losing streak would alleviate that but as long as the team wins more than it loses it'll still be there.
-
But was that osh or did walters take that one out of coaches hands? Cause let's be honest, if biggie was under contract oshea would 100% be playing him.
-
Well then .maybe the team should be perfect and win every game 60-0?
-
I ******* wish...
-
Bottom line, the worst thing this team did was run it all back for the 2023. They should have turned over some more pieces that offseason.
-
I think the quality of recruit is fine, it's just the reluctance to give them spots that's the issue. Lot of complacency has set in with the coaching staff and they're content to go with the guys who have been there for them for years rather than make difficult choices.
-
The CFL comes down ultimately to 2 things, quarterbacking and coaching.
-
Would love to see them work in a 2nd qb more. Seems a waste to park a guy like streveler on the bench until a minute left in an ass whooping game
-
Vaughters has been OK to be honest... he'd look a lot better with some better performances at other positions on the line.
-
I thought J. Jones was a decently big FA addition... maybe not as a surefire all-star but that one was one I was certain was going to work out. Instead he sits on the one game IR because reasons. Here's another thought I've been having... anyone notice how the only game no one has questioned the OL for was game 1? And also how the game plan was universally praised after game 1 and game 1 only? Coincidence? I honestly think a ton of this teams offensive problems stem from collaros and his inability to adapt and change the way he wants to play. He's talked about how much he hated being in Sask cause they wanted him to play a system he didn't like... he's been total dog **** 3 Grey cups in a row, his performance in the regular season has slipped bigly the last 2 seasons... he's become a sitting duck in the pocket mostly... I dunno, I just think he's holding the team back right now.
-
This idea that Zach is still a top teir qb after one good game is hyperbolic. If it were one bad game no one would be talking about Zach losing it but we're going on 2 years now of the truly good games from zach being few and far between.
-
There's nothing wrong with this team that isn't easily fixed. They got veteran options at receiver, they have 2 qbs they can feel comfortable playing, they have bodies who seemed decent in preseason on the defensive line.... they have options, all they need to do is ditch the complacency and make some hard choices with the roster and sit your old boys down if they're not getting it done.
-
I noted the lack of vertical shots as well, but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that collaros wasn't ever comfortable in the pocket.
