Around the League - Regular Season Discussion (Redux)

but wasn't there a rider fan here earlier in the year explaining that Gaydosh was good NI depth? -
And the entire reason PI was allowed to be challenged was because of a blatant missed call in one playoff game, that's the knee jerk reactions I am talking about. NHL did the same thing with offsides. Over react to one mistake by an official and cause more problems for themselves because of it. Why not just give the ref who made the mistake a slap on the wrist and tell them all to be better next time? Instead we get all these problems as a result of it.
-
So then why keep 1 review per team or the automatic reviews on turn overs and scoring plays? If we're going back to the old ways then let's go back and not try this stupid half ass solution they have now. The CFL makes too make knee jerk reactions and it only leads to more problems. If they would take their time and think about things before making changes they wouldn't have to constantly be putting out fires.
-
How many Grey Cups have the Stamps won lately though? Same as the REDBLACKS!!!!! since that franchise came back. Being first all the time doesn't mean jack **** about improving your chances to win a Grey Cup. For other great examples look at Montreal, they were first in their division a ton in the 2000s and hardly have any cups to show for it.
-
I like that it's a step in trying to correct the stupidity of the situation, but I think it's just another knee jerk reaction from the CFL which is what got us into this mess in the first place. The entire point of video review is to get things right... yet with 1 review a side it still leaves a lot of leeway for the refs to get things wrong. I've said since they implemented it that if video review can not be 100% at getting calls right then it shouldn't be part of the game. I would still advocate for the entire review process to be scrapped and just let the referees do their jobs and we can live with real time on the field mistakes from them rather than having to live with mistakes even after the review. At very least they should do away with the ability to challenge PI. It has always been discretionary so reviewing it is just stupid.
-
Unless the refs are that bad at their jobs, which we all know they are. They're going to miss more than 1 call per side per game.
-
I have said for years, when the Bombers win the Grey Cup Freisen is going to write an article with the headline "All Downhill From Here" and tons of fans are going to agree completely with it.

They're groin grabbingly good.

No I want a team that makes the playoffs year in and year out. I want a team that can compete with the best teams in the league, which this team can do. I ain't gonna stress about 1st or 4th in the division as long as they make the playoffs, cause once you're in the playoffs you got a chance to win the grey cup if you play well for 3 weeks in a row.
-
Ottawa was below .500 and won last year, it's about being good at the right time of year as long as you make it to the dance. Let's be realistic here, unless you are first in your division you have to win 3 games to be Grey Cup champions, does it really matter if this team has to go on the road to get there? Given their record at home over the life span of the stadium maybe they're better off on the road anyway. Just get to the playoffs and win 3 games and no one will remember how your regular season went.

Sounds like maybe he should have come to the CFL sooner instead of going through the NFL meat grinder all the time. -
yeah but as those other western teams start playing each other more and more they'll pick up some losses of their own. I mean yeah you want to pick up wins all the time, but let's not over react. weren't they 1-4 last year at this time? It's the CFL, all you gotta do is make the playoffs, and the Bombers are positioned to do that this year at the pace they're going on.

but that seems to be something that people always complain about with returners here the last few years. -

I know he is a popular whipping boy for some, but honestly what is wrong with Lankford? Yeah there was the one fumble but the guy seems to be doing his job at both returning kicks and backing up the receiver position. -
He's a great play caller when he's down multiple scores or just down and time is running out, but when leading or tied or plenty of time left in the game he is pretty brutal. That is why those of us who are frustrated with Lapolice are frustrated with him, because he is inconsistent and if he'd call the entire game like he did when he was trying to climb back into a game things wouldn't get so prone to 2 and outs all the damned time.
-
The great part is that they had 2 guys there who should have at least been able to make a tackle, and they both had their heads so far up their asses it never even occured to them that there might be a catch.
-
errrrrr. Ritchie Hall has been a bend but don't break coach his entire career. That means that lots of yards are given up. I mean this nonsense about the MLB, it should have been obvious when Wild had few tackles when he played in the middle, or when Bass had few tackles when he played in the middle. But no we'll blame Hurl for everything. Wally Buono features his MLB, he lets them make all the plays, Ritchie Hall not so much.

eh, if Montreal had won we'd have just as much cause to ***** about the refs as they would. That dive to draw the PI just before their very first TD was as bad as anything else in that game. Here is the thing, the reffing in the CFL is atrocious, we know this, and they called a TD for Harris on the field so you need 100% evidence to over turn it, there was none, score stands. Montreal should be ashamed of themselves for taking their foot off the gas at the end and letting Winnipeg twice march it right down their throats. That's not reffing, that's soft D putting themselves in a position where it even came down to that.
-
Yes but everyone gets iffy calls made, what smart teams do is snap the ball quickly so there is no chance to challenge. Don't get mad cause the Bombers were heads up enough to snap the ball quick. as for your insistence that Harris Elbow was down, where's the ball when it's down? It's damned close to the plane of the goal line, how can you say it's not broken the plane before the elbow goes down? You really don't have to break it to you, you're just trying to troll claiming objectivity but you really aren't objective, just biased against the Bombers. The only people who think that there was conclusive proof that Harris didn't get in are the people who want the Bombers to have lost. You need evidence to over turn a call and there simply is no evidence there one way or another.
-
Some one gets fired for a 60-1 final score right? I don't even know how that happens.
-
Fred Reid was good, but he was never Charles Roberts good. Reid when he got a hole was great but wasn't as good making something from nothing. Guys like Roberts rarely went down on first contact. It is one of the things that makes Harris so good right now.
-
It's one of the reasons I am such a big fan of MOS. You can tell when he thinks a guy is dumber than a sack of hammers and treats them as such.
-
The key is that Tait and Irving know a hell of a lot about football and the CFL and the Bombers in general so when they have something critical to say it's usually well founded in reality. Guys like Wiecek though have very little to no knowledge about football or the CFL so they can be critical but it holds no weight because they don't know what they're actually talking about. Which is why Mike O'Shea smirking is some how a problem.

What would it take to fire a coordinator?

what scoring at key times and creating turn overs is how you win? Well I have something to tell you.... every team relies on those things to win. I mean seriously the stats for how strongly winning the turn over battle correlates to wins means that every team that wins relies on turn overs. Yeah there's areas that need to get more consistent on this team, but they're battlers and they always believe they have a chance to win, that comes from the coach and that's what makes him a good coach.
