I just didn't see anything from Portis to impress me. Too innaccurate and tries to just tuck and run too much. Wouldn't be comfortable with that guy at all
-
Really? Cause i thought that he was noticably not as good as willy brohm or marve. Yeah he threw a few good balls but he also was missing a lot too. Came away a lot more impressed with the other qbs. I thought Marve looked fine today but I thought Brohm struggled again. Brohm often has trouble finding an open man, when the others QBs don't seem to be having the same problem. Willy has looked good all TC.I was there for the first and second scrimmage today. Were you there for both? Yeah we were there all day today. Brohm did have some issues today but i think when he throws it's a lot more accurate than portis. Based on the two days i saw portis is the wprst of the three and marve might take the backup jpb from brphm but remains to be seen in the games. I suspect we start with willy brohm marve as 1-2-3

The Banjo Bowl game was not as close as the score indicates. The 'Riders were up 27-8 at the half as a result of a blocked field goal touchdown return and a Dressler punt return TD because of an absolutely brutal missed call by the refs on a blatant hold. The Bombers only got back into it when Durant got knocked out with the elbow injury. But the 'Riders exposed the bad o-line (5 sacks) and weak run defence (196 yards, 6.3 yards per carry) that gave every other team a blueprint on how to beat Winnipeg for the rest of the year. Only a late fumble gave the Bombers a chance to steal the win, but Willy threw deep on first down and overthrew the receiver for an INT. Another late turnover gave him another shot, but this pass was even more forced and another INT. To be fair, he was being rushed all second half on his passes due to poor protection, but those throws were on him (which he admitted afterwards). Hopefully he won't be shell-shocked from all of the hits he took last year and he will display the patience he showed in the early comeback wins, and it goes without saying the line protection needs to be 100% better this year to give him any chance. Sounds to me like you described a close game.... It doesn't matter that the Riders were up at half time, this is the CFL, we've seen it countless times where one team can come out hard at first but then the game winds up close. Games are 60 minutes long for a reason. The run D problems were only really a problem on Labour Day. For all the rushing yards in the other games the Riders didn't have much to show for it and it was Bomber turnovers on offense or special teams play that did more damage on the scoreboard than the Riders running the ball.

No I remember it now, There was definitely at least one ball late in the Banjo Bowl that Willy tried to force that was turned over. as far as getting quicker at throwing, I think players can definitely improve that aspect, but Willy to me seems to be the kind of guy that likes to use every second that you give him. You give him more time he'll just take that time. Coaches will likely have to convince him that he needs to make a conscious effort to be quicker.

I figure it's going to come down to Willy and the performance he puts out. If he hasn't progressed beyond last year you can mark it up as 0-1. I thought Willy played well in last years LDC. Bombers lost all 3 games to the R.R. so he didn't play well enough to beat them. Labour Day Willy played pretty well, trouble was that the D left the game early and gave up a ton late to piss it away. Game one vs. the riders absolutely Willy wasn't good enough. The turnovers killed them. I don't really remember what happened in the Banjo Bowl so I won't comment on that.

Absolutely agree, the mobile version of this site is fantastic. -
It would be a good site if the numbers were out there, but until the CFL actually puts the numbers out there it's just pie in the sky dreaming.

You all need to remember that Neufeld was a guy Walters went out and got himself. He made a terrible trade to get the guy, GMs don't just cut guys they like that much even if it is the logical thing to do.

But the thing that made capgeek so good for NHL matters is that they had all the contract details of everyone. If it was just a case of "well we heard Crosby was in the neighbourhood of 8 million and Toews and Kane were around 10 million" it's not so effective right?
-
I probably would agree with you.. With Kelly and Reinbold it at least looked like they gave a **** about winning and didnt have the droopy dog face five minutes into a game. and at least they could get players to play for them. No one put in any effort for the bus driver Burke.

Infuriating to listen to. Making me angry all over again.

well until the CFL starts to make salaries public this seems like a waste of the guys time. Be a lot of hearsay and speculation.

Well I could totally see someone telling us we are awful, awful men...

I still say Tim Burke was the worst head coach this team has ever had.

I was noticing the same thing. Every time anyone talks about Reaves its the same "Looks great out there, maybe in 2023 he'll be good enough to play". ??? I think the hesitation would be that most of the fans here know they don't know enough to know how good a pro Reaves is. Easy to spot a guy who can run fast and jump high and catch the ball and be an athlete, harder to tell if he's a pro and doing what the coaches want and doing it well enough to contribute in a game. In a one on one drill a pure athlete can stand out easy, if he doesn't have all the nuances you need in a game setting doesn't really matter if you're the best athlete out there.

but please keep in mind that they may be filled with liberal use of curse words and should not be viewed by impressionable children.

Don't worry, I'll tell you what's what after I get a chance to check it out on the weekend.

Football coaches in general seem to be living in a culture of super secrecy and paranoia about revealing something. CFL and NFL. It's carried to extremes. "on to Cincinatti" Paul Maurice is good with media. No vague non answers. A press conference after every game, he still tries to answer questions forthrightly, and without insulting the fans with generalities. I wish O'Shea could be more like Maurice. But Maurice has been through the media cauldron, and must have learned a lot from it. Hockey and football are different beasts. With so much time in football to prepare for specific opponents it stands to reason you want less information out there for your opponents. In hockey you often play back to back nights or with one day in between and the preparation for your next opponent is not as in depth. I like how O'Shea operates in the media truthfully. You can tell he's the kind of guy that the players will trust because he doesn't throw them to the wolves.

How come all they are tweeting about is injuries? How about even a "so and so made a good catch" or "This qb was throwing some nice balls" **** sakes guys injury updates are nice but how about some comment on the players performing? Doesn't have to be much or even very in depth but just say something that proves you're actually watching.

I missed that reference. What happened to Stamps? Years back, Hefney hit him in a "personal area" and he had to have an operation to remove "something". http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/cfl/the-sad-story-of-eskimos-slotback-fred-stamps-lost-******** Ouch. If I recall he stayed in the game for a least a while too! The man earned some serious respect

I will admit though that I do get a smug sense of satisfaction seeing the admins smack someone with the ban hammer.
