  1. and I've told you before that you can't just pull numbers out of your ass and call them statistics.
  2. well that's something you never really expected to hear... guy seemed like he wasn't one of those types, guess you can never be sure.
  3. fumbles on punt returns have nothing to do with his abilities as a defensive back... everyone gets burned at some point, looked like simply making the wrong read, perhaps he expected pressure to get to Durant quicker and force the shorter throw, who knows. Don't sweat individual plays so much, he's a great defensive back.
  4. Start Brohm or Marve ? Personally I think this is a lazy move by Ottawa (O'Brien and Carder could use some reps, you know to actually develop). One of my only issues with the CFL for years has been how some players only stick around due to their experience within the league. There have been a whole pile of qbs who were thrown into the fire too early and been ruined as prospects because of it. Not everyone is a Ricky Ray who can come in immediately and start. Most of them need time to learn before they're ready to take over.
  5. Problem is, who is that someone ? There's a reason why the league allowed Braley to have the team in the first place. Find them! there's so much money in Toronto and Southern Ontario the league has to do a sell job to someone and convince them that owning the team is for the greater good. Hell work hard on MLSE and get them under that umbrella if that's what it takes. I refuse to believe that there is no one in that area willing to own the team.
  6. it was not worth a try because any amount of common sense would say that it was going to wind up exactly like it has. I guarantee that GMs and HCs went "we can get free PI calls with a challenge flag? SOLD!"
  7. everyone knew it was going to fail before they implemented it. The CFL has a bad problem of making poor changes just for the sake of making changes. It's great to be progressive and willing to change but they need to be smarter about it.
  8. - Bellefuile started stretching the field on our fifth pass... and we had a really nice drive - all short passes - for the TD in the 3rd - Etch does seem to have difficulty adjusting to Cortez' game, going to be in tough against Dickenson too Stretching out the field helps keep the underneath stuff open. We don't have to connect on all of them for it to have value. It was a bit odd that we failed to connect on any of them, but Saskatchewan still had to respect the deep game. And just like in the last Rider game, their Oline blew up massive holes in our Dline. More often than not their RBs went untouched until they were 7 yards past the line of scrimmage. 4 Riders in the top 15 in CFL rushing? Behind an Oline like that, I don't know why they waste plays passing. And the similar quality of Calgary's Oline will create similar problems. Compounding that, Calgary has a solid passing game, while the Riders passing attack kinda sucks this year. We were in a position to win both games against the Riders so far and made at least one too many mistakes to earn a W. The games against Calgary will have to be nearly mistake-free. They are the class of the CFL. I agree you have to stretch the field but wouldn't you want to wait until they had stopped the short stuff. Both the running and the short passing game were giving them troubles so why keep doing it. Throw long once just to keep them honest but on every second down. I know that game is done but the season isn't. No, keep the opposing defense off balance and your day as an offense is a lot easier. Make them cover everything from the get go, give yourself the most options.
  9. But it's the exact same problem, if you go looking for it you can find pass interference on a majority of plays in the CFL. A lot of them don't get called because they're simply not that bad. The review process still opens it up to that judgement call and it is playing out exactly like many of us predicted it would, it's a joke and just makes things even less clear. Let the refs call it on the field and drop the review process because the review process is doing nothing to make things better. It was implemented as a knee jerk reaction to one bad miss in the playoffs. One mistake begat another mistake.
  10. Reebok can't win because Reebok can't design something that actually looks good. You see what the common thread is there? Reebok goes plain it's ugly, Reebok goes out there it's ugly... Reebok does new jerseys for the CFL they are worse looking than the previous ones, Reebok does new hockey jerseys and they're gross too. Common thread is that Reebok sucks.
  11. And a lot of people would say that Khari's career got shortchanged due to injuries from playing behind our crap Oline. This Willy kid is the real deal. Hopefully our Oline gets a massive upgrade by the start of next year so Willy's career doesn't go the way of Khari's. There is no question about that. His shoulder got ****** from the hits he took.
  12. I think he's better too, but Hall at least got some starts last year and went through training camp with the Bombers. Did Elliott even get to a training camp this year?
  13. Cornish is probably the worst player for our defense to have to face. He's a good combination of fast and powerful and that is going to be trouble.
  14. Tell me something, how old are you? How long have you been a rider fan? I think that would answer a lot of questions.
  15. Everyone in the CFL takes penalties now and then, even Ian Wild. Washington is a great player and one of the best defensive backs in the league.
  16. The logic behind it is pretty straightforward.... passing wins and loses in the CFL, Etch is gambling that his D will stop the run enough times overall to be effective because if you are good against the pass chances are you will win more than lose. There is some logic there, it's worked in other games this year, but the Riders are the team in the CFL that is most committed to running the football. I even said about their earlier losses they could have probably won those games if Chamblin hadn't been an idiot and benched his runningbacks and abandoned the running game that was working for them. It's the worst matchup for an Etchevary defense. Cornish will also likely prove to be a real big challenge for them as well but against everyone else they seem to do fine. Too bad the playoffs in the west likely involve both Calgary and Saskatchewan.
  17. In the CFL I don't think it's about home vs. away teams, it's about reputation. DBs with all star accolades get away with a lot more interference than rookies because refs give name players the benefit of the doubt. Same thing with offensive lines. The ones with a good reputation get more leeway from the refs because of the reputation. It's not a new phenomenon just the way it is. With the Bombers having been such a joke the previous few years it's going to take time to get that reputation with the refs and start having them give us some leeway.
  18. Just seemed like Willy had pretty good time in the pocket. Only really seemed to see pressure when the riders brought extra guys or the coverage was too tight and he had to hang onto the ball. I think Willy actually got a bit jumpy at times when he saw the blitz and moved around before he needed to because they did a good job picking people up initially. Looked to me like there was some more room for the running game as well. Not huge improvements but they seemed noticeable and progress is the most important part.
  19. Braley is probably losing too much money to handle with 2 teams of questionable attendance. Small wonder they keep giving him Grey Cup games to try and re-coup losses. They need to find someone to buy that team because one guy owning two teams is just stupid. I'll never question Braleys commitment to the CFL, he is another guy who has lost a lot of money to keep teams in this league going no matter what else I say about him.
  20. I do not like the comparison to Ray, they're different qbs. Let's let Willy be his own qb because it looks like it could be quite the legacy of his own if we get him some more support.
  21. I couldn't watch the game, was on the road but I listened to the radio broadcast, sounds to me like the Stamps pretty much exposed the Esks for a defense and not much more. Looks good on em. The stupid ******* barrel rolls every ******* sack is going to put a giant target on that team and I hope they wind up flaming out in the second half of the year.
  22. Gaggerville Is that what they call the Riders locker room?
  23. because the whole point of adding the review process for PI was to get some consistency in what is and isn't called. The fact that one review on a cheap play (Bucknor in Toronto, the one we actually got over turned in Montreal when Denmark had some weak contact on him and I am sure many others) can be over turned but ones like this one or the one the Bombers got away with in Montreal as an example can not be called just makes the whole thing ********. If it's a coin flip and a judgement call in the review process why even bother? Just let the refs on the field do their jobs and end this charade of "improving" pass interference calls.
  24. I really hope that Ray can hang on long enough to pass Calvillo. Would much rather a stand up guy like Ray becomes the all time passing leader than that prick Calvillo.
