Same old Brink, send pressure he's toast.

Unlikely, going to take more than 6 wins to stay out of the western basement I expect.

How do you know Grigsby was Willy's first read on the play? When exactly is sending your RB out to the flats a bad call? ...on a D-Lineman... yeah! getting your RB matched up against a DL seems like one giant win for your offensive coordinator.....
-
He looks like he's trying to decide if he sat in a pie or not
-
Looks like a pretty good and balanced offense to me.

I'd have been livid if they'd tried to run the ball in on that last play because they have failed at 2nd and short too often, but letting the qb who has been making clutch throws all year put it in the air? Yeah I call that a pretty good play call.

Is it really that low percentage though? RB on a linebacker or DL and just lob it over the coverage... Khari Jones put a lot of tds on the board just by putting the ball up and letting guys make a play on it why shouldn't Willy? Yah, it is a low %. Most of the time, you'll get a LB on the RB, not a DE. The additional speed and cover ability, quickly turns that TD into a knock down and a win to a loss. Most of the time, when 2 receivers are in the same spot, the ball isn't completed. By that logic any play is a low % play call because you clearly expect the coverage to never get beaten and to make plays to knock the ball down. What I saw happen was the qb saw his RB beat his coverage badly so he dropped the ball over top of the coverage. Seems to me that's what good qbs do to make plays. Throw the ball where the receiver can catch it and the defender can't. That Denmark brought his route too close to the play is nothing to do with the play call. You are right in the bolded part.. But the rest is all wrong. You are either arguing just for shits and giggles are you aren't able to listen to what others including the qb are saying. Play was to go to denmark, but he wasn't open, SO HE THREW IT UP AND HOPPED SOMEONE WOULD COME DOWN WITH IT. He didn't plan to throw it to grisby, He didn't try to get it grisby as he had beat the defender, he threw it up in the area the recievers were. Watch the highlights.. he lobbed it up.. much like we did when we were kids playing " 500" where you throw the ball up and call a number of points the throw is worth.. Get enough points, your turn to throw. Listen to what Willy said. From CJOB post game approx 27 minutes in: Irving: Was that your read on the play? Willy: I was looking to Denny in the corner and Grigsby was in the flat, I didn't think any of them were really open. So I just wanted to give them a shot to make a play. Irving: The pass was a bit of a prayer was it? Willy: Basically, wasn't too skillful. There wasn't much there so I decided to give our guys a chance. You think there was only one option on the play? He said he looked to Denmark was he wasn't open, so he saw Grigsby in the flat but couldn't throw it directly at him, the DL was in the way so he threw it up cause he had to get the ball out, he knew he had guys there, he put it in a place that dropped over the DLs head into Grigsby arms... now what makes more sense, he just tossed a prayer that happened to work out or he's just being humble in his post game interviews? He knew where Grigsby was, he knew where Denmark was, he knew where the guys covering them were, he dropped the ball into Grigsbys hands.... Sounds to me like a qb who knew exactly what he was doing. Like I said in an earlier post, Khari Jones put up a lot of touchdowns by trusting his receivers to make a play on the ball. It's not a low % play call, it's a pretty solid play call. Let's be perfectly honest here, if Denmark takes his route deep into the corner of the endzone the pass is basically a wide open Grigsby catching a ball and everyone is hanging off Bellefeuilles nuts for a brilliant play. But as soon as it was a high throw Denmark and the guy covering came back and it looked a lot more dangerous than it was.

I didn't want Burris here but I hope he looks at what Winnipeg is doing and pouts every night. Same with Collaros, him especially I think figured he was hopping into a great situation and to have it blow up in his face is just great karma.

Otherwise teams would always pass on second and 2 vs running the ball. running on 2nd and 2 has been the ultimate low percentage play for the Bombers for the past 4 years or so.

Grigsby is just a guy who need more space to operate in.
-
I don't think there were really ever any Grigsby haters, more like a bunch of Cotton pickers.
-
What would have been a good play call then? Going into the middle of the field where 3/4 of the ticats defenders are? Trying to run the ball when we have no success doing that? The fact that Willy dropped the ball in where only Grigsby had a chance at it and the fact that Grigsby beat his coverage so badly means that the play call was in fact a good one! Every ******* offensive play requires players to do their jobs and not make mistakes, what makes this one any different? Thee fact that you hate rainbows? There''s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow.

is that worth it though? I don't think Watson gets hurt because of the wear and tear on his body so much as sometimes he just breaks. Limiting his reps likely doesn't do much to keep him healthier and he is flat out better than all our other NI receivers so I think you play him until he's hurt and then at least we know we have another decent options coming in.

Calgary was 8-10 in 2001 and um, well they made it to the Grey Cup game. I don't remember who their opponent was. No they cancelled the Grey Cup that year, was a shame too because I thought the Bombers had a great chance to win it all.

No, just stop right there. First of all, Ray came into the league and dominated from the get go when he was like 23 years old, Willy is already what? 27? second of all Ray was a freak with his accuracy from day 1 and I don't see any other qb in the league having that same kind of accuracy. Why don't we just let Drew Willy be Drew Willy and not compare him to greats? He's got a good game of his own let's just let him be himself.

but when we actually look at the changes made... who were the cancers? I don't buy that Jovon Johnson was all by himself causing that much of a problem in the locker room. Nor a bunch of backup players either. To me this all comes down to replacing an ineffective coach who didn't get anything out of his team with a coach who understands how to get a team to buy in.

it's so easy to forget that he only had a handful of starts prior to this season, looks like a poised veteran out there so far.

The wins are great while they last, but reality will intrude-maybe this next game, but win or lose, this team is one we can believe in and be proud of. But at the same time, 7 or 8 wins is pretty much a lock for the playoffs, that's only 2 or 3 wins away and it's only just August now. Considering where this team was coming from even if "reality" does set in it's still a hell of a good season compared to last already. I'm not even sure what reality is anyway.. I don't know anyone that's expecting the team to keep winning at this kind of pace, but the fact that they don't tend to make stupid mistakes and don't give up when bad things happen is a pretty good reality regardless of whether they win every game or not. Attitude like they've shown they'll win more than they lose.

Bombers had to settle for field goals early and Hamilton gets the big play kick return and manages to punch their chances into the endzone rather than kicking field goals, that's CFL ball right there. Game looks like it's going one way but a couple plays later it's flipped around.

I don't know who was responsible for calling the last play of the game but that was an insane choice imo. They only needed 3 yards to score, a quick slant in and a bullet to Denmark has better odds than throwing a rainbow across the field to a RB. I was virtually stunned when that play succeeded. The play call was on the brilliant side of basic play calling IMO, as it isolates our RB outside where Drew just has to locate the ball for him. The mistake was Denmark being in the same time zone as Grigby…too many bodies there. However, Denmark did position himself to block out any defender, and Willy absolutely nailed the play of the game by floating the ball over the cover man…perfectly. It's always brilliant when it works. Overall I think that's a low percentage play. Willy knew he had a mismatch with Grigsby's speed there, but it's a very tough throw and one that is going to be broken up at least half the time, I would estimate. Still, we executed it to perfection at least and it paid off. Wouldn't have been my play call and still wouldn't, but it worked as planned. nah it was a good call. Trying to rifle a slant or something in has it's own risks, there's lots of bodies in there to knock the pass down or step in front of a pass or bump the receiver off his route. The play they called really only relied on Grigsby out running the linebacker covering him. The other receiver should have probably be further away but you go up and over the coverage when the target is that open it's a pretty safe play.

No love for Zach Anderson? He's another pure hard work guy. Hell I could list a lot of people I thought had a great game. The fact that they were ever trailing in the game let alone needing a last minute drive to win is kind of puzzling. Aside from that one stretch seemed to me the Bombers were pretty much in control of the whole game.
-
But I saw a lot of improvement there today as well. Got Grigsby outside more where he is more effective, Cotton was a nice change of pace on a few plays. It's still a work in progress but I think there are some good signs there.

The best part is that even while missing important guys like Moore they don't seem to really notice it, other guys are stepping up. Happening all over the roster and I love it.
