  1. we've been over this before though, it's debatable whether or not the guy is in fact a quality starting OL AND it wasn't just a 2nd round pick, we gave the riders an allstar player to help them on their grey cup run as well. The allstar player should have been enough, this is Brendan Taman we're talking about here.
  2. But I've heard of him before!!! And he was in Montreal, every player they have is great!
  3. Which should be a very real concern. Burris has said himself that he doesn't like to be challenged for his position. He's basically a player that you need to coddle and if you even think about questioning his position on the team he pouts. Not a good team mate or leader. Hell of an athlete but dumber than a stump and very needy.
  4. I just think Walters if he played his cards right could have got Banks for cheaper and then turned around and sent Poblah somewhere for a different return. Asset management is a big thing and I dunno if Walters is all that great at it, but part of this assessment is based on the other trades he has made where he's displayed a similar tendency to just pay whatever the other team wants. Having to add the pick to the Hall trade still bugs me.
  5. It's obvious that Burke as a head coach let his DC tendancies take over and he HATED seeing touchdowns. So like a good defensive coordinator he came up with a gameplan to neutralize Goltz. It's a lot easier when you can just bench a player rather than having to stop them!
  6. It does the heart a lot of good to see Vancouver struggling lately. Without Sedin1 Sedin2 is pretty useless and their depth chart is all kinds of ugly.
  7. yeah absolutely. So stop thinking it's a negative, it's what good coaches and GMs do. So if I were Collaros I wouldn't be acting like Austin is his buddy. He's the boss and if performance isn't up to snuff then there's no buddies there.
  8. Austin tried twice to extend his contract and Burris turned him down. ....And now back to the Austin Has No Loyalty Game. Thanks for conveniently not mentioning any salary numbers or indications of any sort. It keeps your credibility nice and low. Its not surprising, seeing as he is a ti-cat fan and he feels the need to defend any and all actions made by the hamismell team.. (and yea yea I know how contradictory this statement sounds coming from me) Austin tried twice to extend his contract and Burris turned him down. ....And now back to the Austin Has No Loyalty Game. (and yea yea I know how contradictory this statement sounds coming from me) Calm down. In an attempt to feel good about losing Collaros and maybe gaining Burris some are denigrating Austin and insinuating a lack of loyalty etc. I pointed out there's more to the story as Austin tried to retain him, twice. ....Carry on. tried to retain him a year ago.... it was widely talked about how Burris was falling out of favour throughout the year last. My point stands. And it's not a negative about Austin just a reality that he's a cut throat guy. Buono is the same and no one uses it as a negative with him.
  9. It's not lack of patience it's consistently bad hires. In fact, I'd argue we don't fire folks who aren't doing their jobs like Mack soon enough. it is lack of patience. They have fired good people who may not have been great but good people at the first slip up and blown it all up time and time again. How can you build anything doing that? Have to give people more than 2 or 3 seasons to establish a long term foundation and THEN judge where the team is at. Mack, good people? Kelly, good people? Buchko, good people? I'd include Burke in that group even though as a DC he is one of the best but as a HC he is definetly not good people. You're argument is to keep bad people in place making bad decisions just so as to not make a change. Joe Mack got 3 1/2 seasons to do his work & he buried this team. Left out a few names there I see.... Is that because it is harmful to your argument and beneficial to mine?
  10. In Macks first year he signed the 2 biggest experienced FA qbs on the market, not much difference than Walters trying to sign the biggest name on the market now. Not Macks fault that the guys hitting the market at that point weren't all that good or durable. We'll see how old man Burris holds up long term.
  11. I wish I had an optimistic feeling like that. All I have is this sinking feeling that we'll be reading an announcement about how happy Walters is to welcome Burris to Winnipeg.
  12. Or was that brief surge under the new coach just the new coach players getting a swift boot in the ass and now they're starting to settle back into what they are? Sometimes poor teams win games they're not supposed to, both Edmonton and Calgary beat the Sharks recently, it happens to every team. Over the long haul only the overly optimistic expected the Jets to do much more than they've already done this year.

  14. you think the BOD doesn't have their fingers on the pulse of the fans and know when the natives are getting restless? Some might argue that the BOD are just fans themselves anyway... There's been a lot of knee jerk reactions made in the last 2 decades and it is tied to with how the fan base is feeling. That 23 year drought is self perpetuating because no one has the patience and it's caused a lot of stupid decisions to be made.
  15. Yeah he trades them to someone else... the issue here to me is that more and more it seems like Walters pays sticker price for guys in trade, sticker price is sucker price. One of the biggest parts of being a great GM is creating the foundation of a successful franchise. Until Walters accomplishes that, top free agents that consider more than just money are going to blackball Winnipeg. So the conversation becomes how do you create that as fast as possible? Even if the word was Banks would have been out on the street on Feb 15th, Winnipeg's not the prettiest destination right now, so we'd have had to pony up top dollar, and still might get passed up by an aging vet FA looking to win now. Bottom line, we're paying Poblah to get a leader to Winnipeg, without having to outbid others or be a winning team to do so. I'm not saying wait for him to be a FA, just don't give Wally what he wants, give him less.
  16. I don't see Poblah as potential anymore, and trading him for a proven player is a step in the right direction. Joe Mack loved 'potential' and look where it got us. I just think though, that if Wally is looking at moving Banks it's because he's one step away from cutting him, think that Walters could have played a bit more hard ball rather than letting Wally dictate the move. Some people love to take chances on those potential guys I suspect that there could have been some better asset management gone on. I don't give 2 shits about losing Poblah but so far I am not convinced that Walters is a good trader. I know Wally likes riding on top of the wave and all, but do you think that Wally would be willing to just cut a respected leader and DB like Banks though, even at 34? Even if he's the team's 3rd best corner, that seems like a bad team move to me. Unless he's lost a couple of steps and is no longer good enough to stay on the field. True leaders are in short supply... as long as Banks can still ball on the opposition's 3rd/4th best receiver, I'm good with this trade. Yeah he trades them to someone else... the issue here to me is that more and more it seems like Walters pays sticker price for guys in trade, sticker price is sucker price.

I don't give 2 shits about losing Poblah but so far I am not convinced that Walters is a good trader. I kind of feel like Poblah was one step away from getting cut too though. He's injured a lot and he can't catch and because of that I wouldn't put him ahead of any of the non-import receivers that are currently on our roster. (Other than the new guys that have just recently signed, because I don't really know how good or bad they are.) If Kolhurt re-signs, it would be tough to get him on the field. Obviously there is some risk with this trade. Trading a young NI for an aging vet. It's possible that Kito could become the next Kamau Peterson, but I just can't see it. Hopefully Banks can bring some more leadership that is dearly needed on that Defence. I just think the smart play was to give up a low draft pick for Banks and try and get a pick back for Poblah that may or may not be higher than the one you gave up. Requires playing some hardball but I think a skilled GM could pull it off. I like that Walters identifies the targets he wants in trades and goes and gets them, I just think he needs to get better at playing the game or he's going to wind up being taken advantage of by guys like Wally.
  18. Think anyone has an old Khari Stampeders jersey kicking around anywhere?

  20. So I had no use for Poblah just because receivers who can't catch don't appeal to me but man.... we have to give up potential (which some GMs over value a lot) for a 34 year old player? Seems steep to me.
  21. some people I can vouch for as preferring Willy all along, Noeller for one was adamant all the way that he preferred Willy over Collaros, I have no doubts that a lot of people preferred Burris over all of them because he was a veteran. Different people want different things. I myself just want anyone but Burris.
  22. come on we all said right from the get go that if Collaros went to Hamilton Burris would land here, why even speculate? It's the safest bloody assumption out there to say he's going to be a Bomber because the football gods like to torment me all the time.
  23. Bomber fans have demonstrated time and time again that they do not have the patience required to develop a new qb. Right, it's the fans' fault... You saying that this team hasn't made knee jerk reactions because fans in the city are growing restless? It's still not the fans' fault. You don't deserve to be a GM if you make personnel decisions based on popularity polls. and what about the board or president making GM decisions based on fan restlessness? That's been a big problem too you know.

  25. Boltus *shudder* i realllllly hope that experiment has run its course.. Im nervous that with marcel back.... It hasnt. It really would be nice to know WHO decided and why they gave Boltus play time while Goltz sat on the bench..... I'd feel at least slightly relieved if it was revealed that Burke insisted on playing him rather then MB.... Let's not pretend that Goltz played well at all, or that he even deserved another shot. Aside from Boltus being horrendous, there was no other logical reason for Goltz to ever see the field again. There was the most logical reason... he was better than Boltus, especially at short yardage/goal line situations. You don't bench a guy because he played poorly in some starts when the guy who is replacing him is worse than he is, that's just stupid.
