but what about the plethora of others?
-
so you're saying the guys were so devoid of talent that even a good coach couldn't get them to be even a little bit better than when they first got here?

Gary Etcheverry interviewed for Bombers DC job

When was the last time a coach in Winnipeg had their contract expire before they were fired? That is the reason right there. When a place has a habit of firing coaches basically every year no one wants to take that risk. -
That's the really concerning thing to me, no one seemed to actually get better except for the guy who was drafted as a d-lineman.
-
Now we can see if he was a problem or not. No one developed on the o-line here time to find out if it was absolutely useless prospects or lack of coaching.

Better Marshall than Etcheverry. -
Bombers add K/P Lirim Hajrullahu to neg list

wasn't it Fred Reid they kept instead? Hard to argue with that choice IMO. -
That's an interesting mix for coaches for sure, might work out for them. Did Gibson run an offense in Winnipeg with Kevin Glenn as qb before? Depending on their recruiting efforts they might have a chance cause they do have a proven qb and some coaches who have been there before.

I attended a lot of that training camp and Paredes was just brutal. Big leg but he was missing everything. Can't blame the Bombers for releasing him. At the time I couldn't understand how he even got invited. Hindsight is 20/20 but the coaches made the right call given the information they had at the time. He rebounded and is doing well...good for him. However, it is ignorant to say that it was a bad decision to keep Palardy over a guy who was shanking everything....especially when you were not around to see what they based their decision on. It is a well known fact that Paredes wasn't the same kicker when he was in Bomber camp as he is now. You can't use hindsight to try and claim a mistake when in fact the guy they kept was quite an accurate kicker himself and at the time Paredes was not. He put in the effort to improve himself after getting cut and good on him for that but let's not pretend he was the same guy when the Bombers cut him. -

Yikes if that's they guy they wind up with I'll STFU about hiring Bellefool to run the offense. Etchevarry is just a maniac doing all sorts of crazy things that in the long run winds up not working. -
So who got bent over the worst by the Exp Draft?

Cause Buck would take all the first team reps in practise and then get hurt before half time and these young guys would go in without proper preparation throughout the week. -
We've seen it in a few other stops though. I suspect that MB is an ace at interviewing and that's why he keeps getting hired even if the results aren't always there. Not that he's bad he's just so painfully average.
-
Well I didn't trust Tim Burkes decision making at all and he still got to coach the entire season... life isn't fair.
-
Here's my take: It was Burke that was pissed at Goltz for not being able to save his skin but it was Marcel that was in love with Boltus and kept throwing him out there.
-
If Burke said he didn't want him playing...you think MB would go against that? This was not the first time Burke had said a player would no longer be playing or performing in a certain position due to a mistake. Burke was pissed at Goltz because he was pouting. The whole "Burke didn't want him playing" is nothing but conjecture, unless you can show me some kind of proof otherwise. If Burke didn't want him playing then why keep him on the roster? The Bombers had other options at QB. Putting Boltus in there was a detriment to the team and any O-Co worth their salt would have realized that and made efforts to change that. That decision in my mind is on the OC. Why can"t it be both?
-
Did you just say that Brady was more cerebral than Khari Jones? Do people forget just how smart Khari was? Hell didn't the qbs basically end up taking over the offensive gameplanning in 2000 and that seemed to work out well. I don't know if the guy would wind up working out or not, but I already know that MB isn't going to be very exciting.
-
The guy spent years as a CFL QB working under many different offensive coordinators, he has spent time as a qb coach presumably working with still more offensive coordinators including on of the best just this past year in Cortez. That to me is a guy who has seen enough different perspectives on offense in the CFL to not be tied to any one thing. Here's the thing with Khari, I want him back just cause he's a Bomber not a ******* Rider. Get him back where he belongs. Yeah he might not end up being a great offensive coordinator, but then again he might be, where as Bellefool has a lot of past experiences with the job to look at and say "not very impressive at all"
-
Yeah, again feel the same way. They get a free pass at the qb position & we're left to struggle. I also get a sense that the City of Ottawa & the redblacks have a bit of self entitlement that WE owe THEM even though they ****** up twice. That the CFL better give us a good team or we won't support them. This whole idea that Ottawa has to be good instantly is just sickening. All because they couldn't drum up support for the team twice before. Are we so desperate for a 9th team that we bend over for a market that has never been strong? Hopefully they do find some good players for the team though so that when the dispersal draft hits we can bolster our roster.
-
And Desjardins slammed the organization publicly by saying basically there wasn't even 3 players under contract to select so they had to choose Kohlert a free agent. I know our team is bad but to say we don't have 3 players under contract worth selecting? Well **** him. Shove it, Desjardins. well the bombers did have more FAs than anyone else, you could just look at it as they didn't have enough players under contract to leave anything appealing open to being taken.
-
or it's a panic move to get someone experienced and quickly when there's not a lot of options readily available.
-
you think he doesn't know what his value around the CFL is already? I don't know who his agent is but I guarantee that his agent knows the value of players in that position and there's not going to be a a huge deviation in what is offered for a guy like that so it will really come down to where he wants to be.
-
Oh sure there were a hell of a lot of eyebrows raised when he got that job just because he was so bad to average as an offensive coordinator. Remember it was under his offense that everyone thought Calvillo was washed up and finished. The Riders offense didn't get anywhere above mediocrity with him and some how he got to be a head coach... I think he is a text book example of a well liked guy who because of being well liked gets lots and lots of chances despite not being overly good at the job.
-
ugh that's a really big red flag for this bunch of people. You can do better than this guy at OC. Going to be another year of relying on the defense to bail out an ineffective offense I guess.
-
Morley would be a good option as a backup I suppose, I just don't want the guy as a starter and I think a big problem was the complete lack of development for new offensive linemen so the veteran manages to stick just because he doesn't need as much polishing.
-
yeah pretty much this.
