Pffft Tim Burke was just given a steaming pile of crap as a roster to work with. I don't think anyone could coach these guys into winners. I am just so happy that next years team is not going to be as lifeless and gutless as the Tim Burke teams. O'Shea just seems like the kind of person who won't put up with that kind of ****. Players will either do the job and put in the effort or they'll be out on their ass.

Milt going to Morris MB to help business owner
17to85 replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I don't know what the stats are but I do recall reading a ton of things stating that owning a restaurant or bar is basically asking for a failed business. So much competition and thin profit margins you gotta get people through the door constantly to make it work. -
yeah THAT is the difference... come on man, stamps have an established qb and a top notch coaching staff, Bombers had broken Buck Pierce and a bunch of lame duck coaches but it's the difference in how they ran free agent camps that seperated them. Seriously you gotta get off this blind hatred for Joe Mack and start looking at things more objectively.

Wpg FP Reports Cortez and Bellefuille In The Hunt for WBB HC Job
17to85 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If they hire Cortez it pretty much cements Burris as the teams QB. Another reason I want a different HC. Why? Because he's a free agent? Based on that logic (and more logically IMO) it would mean the team goes hard after Drew Willy. He has familiarity with the system, he's a polished passer, and he isn't 39 by kickoff next June. Cause they've got such a history in Calgary and Hamilton and he's the only real veteran option that's going to be a free agent, and because they had such a good offence together in Hamilton... Come on, it's pretty obvious who the guy would pick if he was given the option of actually picking his own qb. -

Cortez just strikes me as too much like hiring Burke to be HC. There were more red flags with that guy as head coach in hamilton than just the defence, -
Little bit of a luck and maybe they have a couple Grey Cups in that time and are you still bitching? Yeah there have been some crappy seasons in the last 2 decades but there have been some good ones too that just lacked a championship. I would argue that the biggest mistake wasn't even a board influenced one, it was a Lyle Bauer one. Bringing in Kelly cause of that whole "it's been 20 years, we NEED a cup" attitude is the worst thing this club has ever done and set the thing completely off the rails.

Burke the DC I really liked. He's very good at that job. Completely over his head at head coach and one of the worst I've ever seen here (pretty select company) but the argos got a good defensive coordinator there.

what have you done for me lately?
-
as a super duper negatron are you allowed to be optimistic?
-
but it fools the morons into thinking it's legit.
-
For all the Jones love going on you gotta remember that 2 seasons ago Gary Crowton had his defense absolutely guessing. He's a good DC but he's hardly the myth that many people are trying to turn him into here.
-
Quoted because it needs to be said. Fans, especially Bomber fans are by and large ******* who don't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

Is this only if Burke goes to T.O or elsewhere, or a favourable deal even if Burke decides to sit out the season ? Sounds like this is a done deal and not conditional . He agreed to a buyout, so that is the end of it as far as the Bombers are concerned. The chances of a guy like Burke not getting a DC position somewhere are slim to none next year I would think so if the guy wants to work rather than collecting money for doing nothing it makes sense for him.

Head coach - Who do you want and why?

Man, I miss the days when The Simpsons was actually a good show. Not that I watch new episodes too often, but it's not that it's a bad show now, it's just different. Obviously not as good as the golden age but what is? -
Which I really don't think can be over looked at all. Reputation means a hell of a lot in a many circumstances. So if Danny Mac has that good rep then it's good he can lend it to the Bombers.

I like they fact that they're upping the number of people involved with personnel. Spend money on a big enough staff and don't expect two guys to pull rabbits out of their hats all the time. Been a big problem for a lot of years with this team.
-
fleshing out the management staff is never a bad idea. This team has been reluctant to spend money and forced people to do too much work for too long. Glad to see that Miller is willing to open the purse strings a bit. (unless this is just shuffling new people in and old people out but I don't get that impression)

RDS Reports Possible Major Changes To Als Coaching Staff

i'm inclined to agree. I certainly don't "hate" Mack for his approach to the draft, though the parting shots from Miller & Walters suggest otherwise. Still, I just don't see CIS drafting as our team's (and Mack's) Achilles heel....More like an atrocious approach to Free Agency (brought to you by Nyquil) and zero success at fixing the QB. Oh, and cost cutting guys that never really made sense (Kent). And of course, firing coaches at the absolute worst time and then letting the team disintegrate under Burke after that. Other than that, Mack was great. ;-) You don't mention the single biggest issue.... he was terrible at picking a head coach. You don't get the right guy coaching your team it doesn't matter what kind of talent you have it's not going to look good. Like BriceDream said, sitting on his hands during free agency. That was the worst mistake. No you are wrong. Giving Burke the head job was the single biggest mistake. -

Cortez reportedly made $300k in Hamilton. Burke made $225 last season. Not a huge difference. You more times than not get what you pay for. If the Bombers are relunctant to understand this concept when it comes to key positions at the player or management level, they can't be surprised by negative results that ensue and will have to accept we will continue to be mediocre if we continue to fool ourselves. Giving Khari Jones the keys to this football club because he would come with a cheaper price tag and coupled with errenous rationalizations (such as being a former Bomber) and over-rating of what he brings to the table to justify this decision will more than likely not turn out well. Especially in sport where careers tend to be short, compensation can not be compromised when it comes to attracting quality talent whether one likes it or not. I agree, but Cortez as a head coach is probably not the best example of this. He was awful. I dunno.. His team would have been excellent if the defence wasn't so horrible.. The team excelled at scoring points.. which is something we fail doing most seasons as of late. yeah well a good head coach would have hired a good defensive coordinator right? Cortez can no more wash his hands of how bad the defense was in Hamilton than Burke could wash his hands of the offense in winnipeg. -
RDS Reports Possible Major Changes To Als Coaching Staff

I'm not sure I agree with this... over the last 3-4 years we've had our backup NI's playing on offence and defence more than I ever remember any other regime doing. Guys like Swiston, Labbe, Thomas, West, Sherman, Ryan Lucas, and any of our 4 or 5 NI receivers have all seen playing time on offence/defence. Compare that to when we had guys like Daryl Stephenson, Neil McKinlay, Shawn Mayne... now those are guys who never saw the field outside of special teams. What I do agree with though, is that the problem is that none of these guys ever really successfully climbed the depth chart, even though they've had the opportunity. I'm not trying to say its an issue that has cropped up in the past 3-4 years, its been an ongoing thing. Yes the fill'ins are getting better, but I would never want to have to rely on someone like Labbe long term (just picking one out of the group), if Henoc leaves. The fills ins are better means you have better depth, the problem is that right now we don't have a Doug Brown or Brendan Labatte being tops at their positions regardless of NI status. Muamba might be there, but then again he might decide to leave too. Brown and Labatte masked a lot of issues for past regimes.
