If you trade Kane you are unlikely to get equal value for him. There aren't a lot of straight up hockey trades made anymore, usually if players are traded it's because they aren't working out and you're simply trying to recover some assets for him.

4.6 billion actually, unless they've gone and changed their estimates again but pretty sure it's 4.6

According to the link posted by comedygeek, French Canadians use his actually surname of Montferrand - Mufferaw was originally a spelling used by people who couldn't spell the name properly. Or maybe they had a problem with a real folk hero being used as a mascot. or maybe french people are just permanently pissed off about everything.

So much this. Every storm, ever cold snap, every hot spell it's not weather anymore it's doom and gloom climate change!!!!11!!!! pisses me off. I also completely agree with you how greenhouse gas emissions have usurped the environmental issues so completely and totally. There are plenty of worse things we're dumping into the environment but because it's not the hot topic of the day it doesn't matter. That **** really pisses me off. The weather is always going to be unpredictable and we are always going to have severe weather pop up, that's been going on since day 1, and it's always the poor who get hit hardest that hasn't changed either. Just that there's big business in climate change too and lots of people are making money and not solving any issues. This whole idea that you can buy carbon credits and solve the problem... nonsense. It's a wealth transfer scheme nothing more.

Bob Wylie to be new O-Line coach - Confirmed
17to85 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The absolute best part of this hire is that there is no question about the quality of the offensive line coach now. We got one of the best so if the players aren't playing well it won't be because of coaching. -
it's probably nothing more than setting a time line. I seem to recall that last time during negotiations they played under the terms of the old one before hammering out a new deal. This move basically just says to the league no chance of that this time better get serious about a deal before the season starts.

the problem is people who believe the earth has ever been or ever will be static. Climate has been changing since the Earth began, it is a dynamic system and it is always changing. It just happens so slowly we tend not to notice it until it's happened. I fully accept that the world has experienced climate change long before man existed. I don't accept that man-made CO2 emissions have nothing to do with accelerating or exacerbating climate change. The point here is that rather than trying to worry about what caused the climate to change we should just accept that it has always and always will change and focus on adapting rather than wishing we could go back to a time that we can't go back to. This planet we live on always throws curves at us and as a species we always have to adapt. Right now we have been in a situation where developments in argiculture and industry and medicine have allowed the population to grow at a huge rate, with a bigger population comes more pollution of all types, especially as we keep trying to improve our quality of life. Eventually it was always going to catch up with us. We are an adaptive species though, we can adapt, people just might have to relocate themselves.

well we don't really know if they are better or not, we never got to see coaches willing to work with Elliott. That's the main point here.

So? Well one could argue that the big reason he wore out his welcome was not listening to the coaches... yet if a guy who didn't listen put up better games than anyone else has since that not listening to the coaches was a plus in the guys favour? Maybe he recognized the complete horseshit the game plan was and told the coaches so? Would have been interesting to see what he did with a different offensive coordinator here.

The Kings are one of those teams that may not score a lot of goals, but if you give them chances they will absolutely bury you because they have some real snipers on the team and they play a game that simply doesn't make mistakes and allow teams to come back.

"only 34" he says. You're old as **** dude.

even I knew the reference, come on people.

Of course there is, guys who make what most of the players in the CFL make can't afford to be missing paycheques with a work stoppage. They'll just want to get a deal done and play football and get their paycheque. Pretty easy to say "yeah **** it let's wait out the year" when you hauled in millions the previous season, much harder when you're only making tens of thousands.

Rumour: Jets/Isles to Deal on Draft Day?
17to85 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
It's too easy to paint everybody with the same brush like that. It's very frustrating to watch him take wrist shots from just inside the blue line on a nightly basis. He has the skill level to be one of the best in the NHL, but he's not close. I'm not advocating to trade him just for the sake of trading him though. If we can't get a big haul, I wouldn't do it. Every goal scorer does that though. You can't score a goal if you don't put the puck on net and unless you expect guys to carry a huge shooting percentage like Stamkos not every shot is going to score. Like I said, guys who score 30 goals in the NHL are not that common and Kane is one of them at a young age. Be satisfied with what he is and don't expect him to be a super star. You're making it too black-and-white, as usual. Kane is particularly bad for this. With his natural talent, if he would simply put a little effort into learning the game and beating guys with his mind rather than just his body, he COULD be a superstar. That's what's so frustrating. Brett Hull used to say he was a good goal-scorer until he took the time to really understand the game... and that's when he became a GREAT goal scorer. No one is denying that Kane is a useful player and certainly one of the most dangerous offensive threats on the Jets. It's just that he could be so much more. Enough with the "Jets fans should just be grateful for what they have" mentality. What a loser way of thinking. Come down from your ivory tower in Calgary and realize that Jets fans are just like any other fans, they want their players to perform to their maximum potential. 30 goal scorers are more than just useful players, they are very good players. Very few people get to the level you are describing, expecting everyone to get there is only setting yourself up for disappointment. If you keep focussing on what could be you are always going to be unhappy. Trust me I've seen it plenty from fans of every team. The sooner you set realistic expectations the less you'll worry about guys not living up to the absolute maximum potential. -

Not everyone can be Steven Stamkos. 30 goal scorers in the NHL aren't all that common these days, Jets fans should be glad to have a guy like Kane. But I guess they can't over look the fact that he acts more like a football or basketball player. God forbid a hockey player shows any kind of personality. -
Rumour: Jets/Isles to Deal on Draft Day?

Have to be careful with how you word that, because he blew past 20 goals once on his way to becoming one of the youngest guys to ever score 30. Then he got hit with a lockout season and it's not reasonable to count that. And he's likely to put 20 in the net this year. So really, 20 goals once in 5 years could easily turn into twice in 4 years in a hurry. And let's be honest, we know Atlanta rushed him. He may be in his 5th year but he's also 22 years old. It'll come. and in that lockout season he was on pace for 29 or 30 goals again. Seriously at what is he? 22? 23? to be a 30 goal scorer... some people just expect everyone to be Crosby. -
Rumour: Jets/Isles to Deal on Draft Day?
17to85 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Yes and no. They take criticism but all they is talk rumours all day everyday. How many rumours or talked about deals actually happen. Some of their writers are good. Either way it makes for some good talking points. Aside from Tavares who do the islanders have that we would want that would also fit I to a Buff and/or Kane deal? That's exactly why they aren't worth listening to. If they hear that one GM calls another they put it up to generate page views. Until someone reputable like Bob Mckenzie brings up a rumour it's got no legs at all. -
Rogers is a giant in Canada, but they're small potatoes compared to their American counterparts.

Hockeybuzz is the least reliable source for rumours out there. Seriously they're a punchline everywhere. -
You see what happens when you start promoting the place on twitter? You get rider fans. Now we need to hire an exterminator. Are you happy with yourselves?

Another Loss Yet Same Old Questions
17to85 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
You over estimate his value around the league. The same reason you'd trade him are the same reasons other teams won't pay a premium for him. Is he a defenceman? Is he a forward? Is he going to show up in shape? He is inconsistent, he has a big contract... He's the kind of guy teams would take a chance on for the right price, but no one is going to pay big to get the guy. Honestly, I disagree. I've had this debate before. In Winnipeg we are always of two minds: we can trade bottom six guys for top six guys or no one wants our players. All things being equal Buff is a superstar player. He's really settled in as a very good forward, top six for sure with a propensity for taking over games at will. But I dont believe his style/age/fitness fit in with *this* team. He's a "missing piece" type of player. He's the guy a top team gets to put them over the top. We're not there yet, so his talent is wasted here. I believe he's easily nets a top six winger, pick and prospect. We maybe throw in a higher pick and a less desirable prospect to make it all work but we're net positive on any trade at this point. Buff is a guy who CAN dominate, but not all the time. He is absolutely not a superstar. He can look like it at times but the inconsistency and questions about his work ethic and whether he's going to be in shape or not when training camp rolls around is what prevents other teams from paying the price you think you can get. GMs want consistency above all else. They don't want to have to guess what they're going to get out of a player. WIth a guy like this who has those consistency issues it's not something GMs will pay a premium for. They'll take a chance for a low price, but not for the big payment you expect.
