  1. I stand by the fact that since all of the top prospects in the draft had NFL ambitions AND with the Ottawa expansion draft looming taking a flyer on a guy going to the NFL was not a bad move.
  2. and if Mulumba finds his way up here and is a top level NI for years are you still going to scream about a wasted pick? The only reason people keep rehashing the picks is cause some people have unrealistic expectations of what you get out of a typical draft. Every single team has misses every single year.
  3. That'd be good but Wylie would be awesome too. He did some real good things with the o-line when he was here before.
  4. yeah was really unhappy with Lapo trying to do too many jobs, really get the impression that O'Shea isn't that kind of person and I'm glad. Burke wasn't that kind of person either but he failed because he wound up really doing nothing.
  5. In a draft year where all of the top prospects were getting NFL looks I don't see a problem with taking one of them and hoping he finds his way back to the CFL.
  6. Bottom line is that Winnipeg is known as a place with no stability so coaches are less likely to go here because job security matters. Stubler can go to Calgary and know that the only way he won't be back is if he does a crappy job. He comes to Winnipeg he knows that everyone might all get fired next season because that's all Winnipeg has done is fire coaches. It really is as simple as that.
  7. I just want to get an OL coach who has proven that he can turn prospects into players because that is what we need to happen here. Veterans aren't going to come in and save the day, need these guys we drafted to become players sooner rather than later.
  8. but that's not JUST because of an offense. In a lot of those situations the defense is protecting a lead and playing more passively to try and avoid making a huge mistake and giving a big play. I can see the merit in gambling some of the time though. There are lots of situations where you're probably just as far ahead to go for it as to kick it away but it really depends on a lot of factors.
  9. one might argue that Jones best advantage is only being here a month. Hasn't been here long enough for the coaches to ruin him. Douglas was an interesting looking player when he was new here as well.
  10. I'd say that kind of thing works in high school because it's freakin high school! Yeah not punting might work out for an offence now and then, but in professional ranks teams are so well prepared (insert bomber joke here) that you're not going to catch them off guard with any of this and the talent level is much more balanced. I imagine that highschool football has a lot of talent disparities and can rely one a couple really really talented kids to just dominate.
  11. I'm just glad it's not Etchevary. This comes down to the "safe" pick vs. gambling on a rookie, i'll trust O'Shea to pick the best guy for what he figures he needs.
  12. They are a little bit different but yeah you're right they are the same philosophy. Make teams make 10+ plays to score. I think Marshall is a bit less adaptable than Stubler which leads to his defenses not having as long a shelf life.
  13. I did lots of reading on the googles, you can usually get a pretty idea of what you're looking for by reading various pieces. It really comes down to how much you want to pay and finding that good balance there.
  14. Got the sense so many times last season that the fans were just waiting for a reason to blow the roof off the stadium but never got the chance. When this team turns things around it's going to be a glorious sight to see.
  15. Why? cause he's quite average.
  16. but what about the plethora of others?
  17. so you're saying the guys were so devoid of talent that even a good coach couldn't get them to be even a little bit better than when they first got here?
  18. When was the last time a coach in Winnipeg had their contract expire before they were fired? That is the reason right there. When a place has a habit of firing coaches basically every year no one wants to take that risk.
  19. That's the really concerning thing to me, no one seemed to actually get better except for the guy who was drafted as a d-lineman.
  20. Now we can see if he was a problem or not. No one developed on the o-line here time to find out if it was absolutely useless prospects or lack of coaching.
  21. Better Marshall than Etcheverry.
  22. wasn't it Fred Reid they kept instead? Hard to argue with that choice IMO.
  23. That's an interesting mix for coaches for sure, might work out for them. Did Gibson run an offense in Winnipeg with Kevin Glenn as qb before? Depending on their recruiting efforts they might have a chance cause they do have a proven qb and some coaches who have been there before.
  24. I attended a lot of that training camp and Paredes was just brutal. Big leg but he was missing everything. Can't blame the Bombers for releasing him. At the time I couldn't understand how he even got invited. Hindsight is 20/20 but the coaches made the right call given the information they had at the time. He rebounded and is doing well...good for him. However, it is ignorant to say that it was a bad decision to keep Palardy over a guy who was shanking everything....especially when you were not around to see what they based their decision on. It is a well known fact that Paredes wasn't the same kicker when he was in Bomber camp as he is now. You can't use hindsight to try and claim a mistake when in fact the guy they kept was quite an accurate kicker himself and at the time Paredes was not. He put in the effort to improve himself after getting cut and good on him for that but let's not pretend he was the same guy when the Bombers cut him.
  25. Yikes if that's they guy they wind up with I'll STFU about hiring Bellefool to run the offense. Etchevarry is just a maniac doing all sorts of crazy things that in the long run winds up not working.
