Practice Updates: Swiston In For Morley, Watson/demond Back, Hall #1
17to85 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You see? You see what happens when you fire the GM midseason? You throw the entire rest of the year and next year into the toilet completely. All for the price of millions of dollars in salaries for people to not work for you and empty seats in the stadium. -
It was something the team desperately needed. a decade + of trying to make those couple moves to win now, they needed someone to take a slow and steady approach. It cost a lot of good will for Mack and he didn't get the right coaches for that plan and in the end didn't work but it was something that the team needed to do.

Just handing the job to Burke was the single biggest mistake Joe Mack ever made. That 52-0 labour day game and the one 2 weeks later were enough for me to say "yeah this guy isn't a good option at head coach" let alone that stupid ******* punt call in the banjo bowl. Then he goes and tells the world it's PIerce as his qb and only PIerce cut the guys with experience. Just one mistake after another.

To me it looks like the coaches are going full MIke Kelly. Gonna be a revolving door at qb with each loss hoping that the next guy will save their jobs for them. -
Rumour: Max Hall Will Start This Friday

All things that Pierce has been guilty of too, except with Pierce there is absolutely no respect for his ability to run. If Goltz failed and deserves to be 3rd string then PIerce failed and deserves to be 4th string. -
Burke was done the second Mack was fired anyway. he didn't do enough to earn the job for this year let alone next year.

Let's go with Simpson. betting against the ticats D can't be too bad an idea can it?

If Goltz had his shot and was terrible then what the hell was Pierce? Goltz was better than Pierce was and PIerce gets a promotion? All Pierce deserves is to be cut. -

I had that thought as well, sure he can at least get a look as a special teamer down there right? -

took them long enough to put Swiston in ahead of Morley. Not sure how a veteran player playing that underwhelmingly got the leash he did. -

starting Hall isn't necessarily a bad move, a lot of people figured he'd wind up as the #2 coming out of camp anyway and might be the best option for the season. The real issue is how much this just screams coaches desperately trying to save their own asses now that the GM has been canned. Hated the timing when it happened, hated it more now. Yeah 1-5 sucks, but with back to back with Hamilton on the way it was a great chance to get into a better spot... then with back to back against Edmonton not far away either it was yet another chance to improve their lot. Now we're seeing a bunch of what appear to be knee jerk moves and it really does look like they just threw in the towel already. -

just proving once again that they blew it up at the worst time possible. Should have done it after the back to back with Hamilton. -

how so? If it was then wouldn't they go back to Pierce rather than the third string? It's no secret that Burke is a Goltz fan, he has been the whole time, it's also no secret that Crowton is Halls biggest thing. I would suggest that this is nothing more than the coaches now realizing that they're next up to be fired so if they're going to be fired they're going to go with the players THEY want to go with. -

Most likely scenario, Crowton knows what hes' the next whipping boy on the chopping block and says "If I'm going to get fired let me play my guy" -
and to be completely fair Cornish is a dink of epic proportions himself.
-
if it's cheap enough I'd consider it, but I'd want to be pretty confident he's not going to pull a Buck and sit on the IR more often than not.
-
but at what cost? Not like there was a lot in the cupboard to to work with in terms of making trades. Now sure we can bicker about the one or two free agents who were out there that could have been THAT guy but there was really only 1 or 2 people.
-
This I like this. When Mack walked in he inherited a few really good players but not much else beyond that no draft picks, no promising young NIs in the system, very little actual depth. What we have now is a good base to build on but probably lack a couple of those top level people. So a new GM comes in with lots of work with, lots of options for what to do. Aside from not having that established QB it's a pretty good situation for a new GM to walk into.

I bought in Cranston for about 400000, but go across the street there's houses for anywhere from half a mil to a mil. Different people have different thresholds for what nice is. But bottom line when comparing to Winnipeg I don't think 200000 difference is the actual number, just seems way too big a gap.
-
he may have given them the best chance to win, but most games he'd do just enough to not win. It's not surprise that they would have been looking for more. A lot of things got attributed to Mack that Lapo has flat out said were his ideas. Brink was one, Crowton was another, people just seem more willing to blame Mack.
-
well what's your definition of nice?
-
but lets say that Goltz goes on to be this teams starting qb for the next number of years and swiston and pencer wind up being solid starters on the o-line.... would it then not stand to reason that the guy actually knew what he was doing?
