You have evidently forgotten Ryan Miller carrying his team to a silver medal in 2010. He'd definitely be my choice in net for the Americans. What both Scrivens & Jones did in Quick's absence this season in pretty telling for how much it's LA's team D that contributes to goaltender success there. I'm not sure if you're being serious or not, but no, Holtby should not be on Team Canada. but to be completely fair to LA, Martin Jones absolutely stoned the Wheat Kings in the WHL on more than one occasion. He was the only reason the Hitmen won some of those playoff rounds so him coming into LA and doing the same wasn't really a surprise because I saw him play that way in jrs even though I hate to admit he was any good. Holtby didn't deserve to be on team canada either. For all people crap on Luongo he's always been a goaltender who can carry a team. He got that rep as a choker but it's not deserved, the entire canucks team are soft chokers. Price wins a ton of games in Montreal on a roster that isn't all that great so to me he's another guy who is capable of carrying a team. Smith I am not sold on but I understand wanting a more veteran guy as their third guy.

Pavelec is OK, he's just not the kind of guy to stand on his head every night and cover up for other short comings. The Jets D is ok in the sense that they have some good puck movers on it, but the bottom couple defensemen are yikes and Trouba is still a rookie no matter how good he looks.

Oh I'm not saying he's not a good player to have, just that some people talk about him like he's still that #3 overall guy who was just behind Doughty and might even have the potential to be better!

yeah that's ridiculous. Buff is what he is. He ain't going to give to 30 minutes a night of flawless hockey but he can play a high event game and generate offense quite well. Honestly the guy that people tend to over rate the most on the Jets blueline is Bogosian. People act like he is still the guy Atlanta thought they were drafting when the reality is he hasn't come close to living up to that potential. Capable player but not a guy that was once on the same level as Doughty or Peitrangelo.
  5. Predators have had trouble making the playoffs without Suter around, having two top teir defensemen on your roster does a hell of a lot of good, Jets don't have a guy anywhere close to the level of either one of them, and the coyotes are the trappiest bunch of trappers that ever trapped. I don't think Winnipeg has the right guys to pull of that kind of system anyway. Chevy wants to build the team through the draft that means you gotta wait for guys to develop before you can expect much more than you're getting.
  6. Well the fans of western teams expected the Jets to be that bad but I really get the sense a lot of Jets fans thought their team was actually close to being competitive rather than just being a team that played in a terrible division. Hell I guarantee that if Edmonton played in the eastern conference they wouldn't have drafted first over all 3 years in a row. The western conference is just so unforgiving to teams with any holes in their roster.
  7. Yeah but the Jets roster is actually lacking in talent compared to the western conference so expecting much more than you're seeing out of them is only setting you expectations too high.
  8. That does not make sense...
  9. Seeing how Denmark got worse after his rookie season and how Matthews got worse after his rookie season and how even after a few years Etienne wasn't making a lot of progress and Poblah wasn't making much progress I really have some questions about the effectiveness of the coaching the receivers were getting but it's one of those things that we just don't know. Maybe Crowton takes a lot of the blame for that? I'll give him a chance but I expect to see better results than we've had.
  10. Your hatred of Burke is blinding you from admitting that our roster is GARBAGE. Burke is an abysmal HC, yes, but you seem to think that just because Lapo took the team to the GC that it was an above average club. We rode to the GC on the strength of a 7-1 start (fuelled by Burke and Harris's defence). Once teams figured it out, remember how we sucked arse for the balance of the year and basically stumbled into the cup, whereupon we were anally pounded by BC? And how did we improve after that GC pounding? Buck Pierce, Goltz, a bag of garbage, oh, and Sofa Muamba. I feel bad for O'Shea (and Walters). They have a lot of work to do. It's not just because of the Grey Cup appearance for Lapo. I don't think Lapolice was all that great of a head coach either, but when he was here that roster was able to compete in almost every game and a lot of losses I attribute to Lapo having them play not to lose rather than trying to actually win (which goes for the grey cup game too) The roster back then looked strong except for a few key places. Burke comes in and the whole thing looks like hot garbage... so what's more likely? Burke made it look worse than it actually is or Lapo made it look a hell of a lot better than it is? I know where my money is.
  11. Swiston and Pencer as prospect were preferred I guess.
  12. hate it so much when receivers do that. just play through it and it's more likely the refs will see the interference.
  13. All I want to see from PI calls is consistency in the games. That is what frustrates fans and coaches and players. If something is PI on one play it has to be on all plays and if you're letting things go you have to let them go for everyone.
  14. Look at the QB's Calgary had to work with versus the garbage that WPG has? Calgary has had a vastly superior GM and as a result, a superior pipeline to quality players. If Huff was coaching Max Hall and the funky bunch he'd have a shitty year too. Kevin Glenn wasn't good enough in Winnipeg or Hamilton but he was good enough for Hufnagel....
  15. when Bellefeiulle talked about having to teach Denmark how to waggle that was a huge red flag but who knows.
  16. There are two things that make all the difference in the CFL, Coaching and quarterbacking. And do you think that it's a coincidence that Hufnagel had 3 qbs he could throw onto the field? Good coaches get the most out of their teams. If Tim Burke had been coaching Calgary or Saskatchewan they'd have been shitty teams this year too.
  17. special teams is probably the one area you're better off hiring a Canadian anyway just since the kicking game has so many different quirks.
  18. good coaches make good players great and bad players good. Bad coaches make good players bad and get themselves fired.
  19. Getzlaf, Muamba, Laurent, Cornish, Harris But he's quite possibly 6. really you have Getzlaf that high? Hmm what am I missing?
  20. I'd make that trade in a heart beat. O'Shea should be able to get someone who can put good special teams on the field get me a proven OL coach who can actually develop some players for us.

When they threw him the ball Etienne seemed to make some things happen, but he didn't see the ball much. Was he not getting open? Did they ignore him in the game plan? Did the qb just never have time to go through reads to find him? All things that we really don't know. I do know that I much prefer receivers who catch the ball when it's thrown to them as opposed to guys who might get open a lot but drop a lot as well.
  22. I think on the call in show Kelly went too far by insulting people directly like he did, but man if he had stuck to just attacking their stupid comments man that woulda been something I was immediately a fan of.
  23. Calgary needs to get off their asses and build a new stadium ASAP cause Mcmahon is really showing it's age. It may not be the worst one in the league at this point but it's not good either. You live in Calgary like I do. I don't get a sense that any new stadium is on the horizon. Do you? I went to school with Nenshi at U of C and I would bet good money that the day he was at the Stamps game this year for the flood ceremony was the first time he had ever set foot in McMahon. He wouldn't know a football from a bucket of KFC. A new stadium has to be championed from the highest levels of civic government, and what with all the dough that had to be blown on the Saddledome this year I doubt McMahon is going to be a priority for a long time to come. That's true, with Edmonton building a new arena Calgary is going to want a new arena before anything else because they have to keep up in the long cock competition between the cities.
  24. No it's not about showing he's in control, it's about calling the media ******* out on their bullshit.
  25. Maybe. But there is a pretty wide disparity between what coaches have to deal with from the media here versus any other place in the CFL. Winnipeg is the only place where the media really "grills" the coaches and GM... in Toronto, BC, etc, nobody cares enough and in Regina the media eats right out of the Riders' hands regardless of how poor they are doing. Even in 2011 when the Riders were 5-13, it was tough to hear a negative word spoken about the Riders in that province. Nope, the amount of media bullshit that coaches have to deal with is highest in Winnipeg and its really not even close. Im pretty sure the fans are more sensitive to this than the coaches. The only coach we've had who couldn't effectively handle the media was Mike Kelly and he would've had a hard time in any city. What do you mean??? This interview with the Media was the best ever: From http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/blogs/bomber_insiders/The-Mike-Kelly-tirade-50896892.html It was the one thing Kelly did very very well. Flat out tells the media he's not talking about it... they keep asking about it he keeps telling em no ask a new question. Just crazy to me how the media in this city will have their one narrative and if they can't get that out of the people in charge they can't do anything else so they better make this out to be a coach not knowing how to handle the media... That's the biggest reason they all piled on Joe Mack too, Mack was less vocal and out going about his disdain for the media but he treated em a little like that too and they hate when they get cut out like that.
