The Other Two 1-4 Teams Face Off: Fnf Aug. 2
17to85 replied to bluto's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
these teams are just the absolute shits. -
other is a cop out unless you start naming names whoever picked that one.

yeah but when you could fire the chef but the only guy to replace him with is the night janitor does it make sense to fire the chef? Come on you are smarter than what you're saying. You're really just coming off as a panicky fool demanding someone lose their job to appease that anger.

there's the burris we know and love. tosses a pick to Grimey. -
there are other things to try at this point in time, one of them is trying a new qb. It just makes much more sense in the long term to fire coaches at the end of the year, especially when you're already bare bones on the offensive side of things right now.

I am wondering if they haven't made changes due to continuity rather than guys not being better... just seems strange that they refuse to make changes.

Rod Pedersen Rumour: Tillman Courted By Bombers

hah! even toronto doesn't want to cheer for that team. -
Rod Pedersen Rumour: Tillman Courted By Bombers

yeah hiring tillman would seriously have me questioning my loyalty to this franchise. Just looking at the mess he left Edmonton along with his legal issues.... no thank you. keep that guy away from this team. -
and I'm pointing out the foolishness of that mentality. I mean really how many times has firing anyone midseason actually worked out long term for this team in the last 2 decades? That should be a lesson for people to cool their jets on this. The whole idea of "I'm angry I demand a sacrifice to appease me!" has led to more setbacks in the long term future of this team than anything else.

short sighted thinking. Let the people you are already paying try and salvage it and if they don't then you make moves in the offseason when there are plenty of quality people available. Doing it now might just give false hope and wind up causing people to stick with less than ideal people who showed perhaps minimal improvement. There's a time and place to fire people, the middle of the season isn't it.

I think the common thread here is that Winnipeg fans just love to ***** and complain about something, doesn't even matter what, just as long as they can ***** and complain.

stupid attitude. You can't fire someone you don't have a replacement for. You say it couldn't get worse, but it might actually get worse, especially given the limitations already on the offensive side of this coaching staff. I don't know why everyone is so hot and bothered to fire people in the middle of the season. Wait until the offseason to make changes and you have many more options to replace people with which should lead to better hires to avoid these kinds of situations in the first place.

Rod Pedersen Rumour: Tillman Courted By Bombers
17to85 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The only reason to fire a GM midseason is to stop a guy going crazy gutting a team to desperately try and turn things around. I don't see Mack doing that so there is absolutely no reason to do a mid season firing that will accomplish precisely nothing. -
Going out on a bit of a limb taking Simpson. I'll hold off on making 2 guesses.

given what he did in Edmonton I don't think you can realistically say he'd bring anyone closer to a Grey Cup. -
I believe Ray was recommended by Rick Worman

The real quality of Crowton as an OC will be shown in the coming weeks. They built an offense to protect Pierce and it didn't work at all, now that the attempt to wrap the qb in bubble wrap isn't needed we can see what he's actually all about. We saw progress at the end of last season, let's see if that continues now.
-
that stat was bullshit to begin with because there were lots of games PIerce was playing like complete crap in and had the team in a losing position but then got hurt and didn't finish the game. It's not so much a when he played he was always good more of a when he played bad he also wound up getting hurt. PIerce has been a brutal qb for over a year now, probably closer to 2 years than anyone wants to admit. This move was a long time coming.

he's a professional athlete, those guys always have the ego going thinking they can play. Very few of them leave on their own terms, most of them need it pointed out to them that they're done and even then they don't accept it.
-
the thing that really got me was how in the clip of burke talking about moving on from pierce he talked about needing the continuity of having the same guy behind centre week to week and how the young guys have more potential to get better.... Why the **** didn't he see that prior to now? Some of us were saying those exact same things before last season ended. Frustrates me when fans pick up on obvious things before the coaches do.
-
it's entirely possible that Pierce misunderstood what was being asked of him. I would give him a couple days to calm down before putting too much stock into what he's saying. It is perfectly understandable to see a guy upset to lose his position. If he doesn't come to terms with it then we can get rid of him.
-
that's an unfair statement. Every player wants to be on the field if they can. I don't fault Pierce for wanting to keep playing, I fault the coaches/management for not making the decision to move on sooner.

Hawkins Fired In Mtl, Popp To Take Over As Hc
17to85 replied to Fraser's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
given how their o-line has struggled this season and how poorly Calvillo has dealt with that pressure I would lean towards this move not really doing as much as some people expect. Popp is not known for his head coaching abilities. -
marcus brady is working with one of the best qbs in the league, Jarious Jackson is working with Lulay in BC, Jason Maas is working with Ray... do you really think the quality of the qbs play matters when it comes to their ability to coach? I don't know if Pierce is any kind of coach or not, but how he played certainly doesn't have any bearing on that. At least Pierce was a good qb at one point. I hope he does well.
-
I just hope they give Goltz a fair chance here. I don't wanna see any Mike Kelly style handling of the new qb here. If Goltz is the guy don't yank him at the first sign of trouble and go to the next guy and the next guy and the next guy.
