Sure, why not. Whatever. WWE Network and Wrestlemania
iso_55 replied to Goalie's topic in General Discussion
You're judging an entire industry based on your perception. The only reason we're discussing this is because of youtube. The Omega match was for the Japanese audience which is very different from the American audience. Should those promoters stop making money because it offends the senses of specific American wrestling fans? The Undertaker isnt over because he looks like he could win a bar brawl. In fact, I'd never put money on him winning any sort of real fight at this point. Brock Lesnar doesnt move ratings one iota anymore. The most cartoony guy WWE has is John Cena and he's the top merchandise seller. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk were the #2 merch sellers at various points and both are smaller-average looking guys. Wrestling is a work. Everything about it is a work. If you had 25 Brock Lesnar's, then Brock Lesnar wouldnt be special. And by the way, Jeff Jarrett laying down was a work. Ofcourse I'd still be Omega's friend if the booker booked him to do that finish. Jarrett would have looked awful had he refused and also opened WCW up to a lawsuit from Hogan (which was the end result anyway, but not due to anything Jarrett did). Well, being the dumb wrestling fan that I am, I remember what Jarrett did on that PPV. I didn't come here because of You Tube so to speak. Of course the Japanese are a different audience. I said the video was creepy which is my opinion. You go into this long defense of Kenny Omega & the 9 year old saying they did great work in the ring. Of course the audience is different. A match like that here would be criticized, laughed at & mocked. In Japan they love it. Over here, no. -

You are correct. Speaking of cocky, is Kent still a savior in Hamilton? At the cap and a ton of free agents, pitch forks likely will be coming out soon. Austin will be fine. I think most of the FA's that he wants to sign will probably return. I think he's a coach that players love to play with. While I find him cocky too. I think players look at it differently and admire his demeanor and fierce attitude. Agreed. Wouldn't you say the same about Jones? He has won 4 cups, the players obviously believe in him. Yes, absolutely. I think his players love the guy but it's all the other stuff that comes with him. -

As usual, you are here with your troll pot shots at the Riders. Do you ever comment about anything else? Its actually flattering that you are a Tigercat fan and all you ever post about is the Riders. Austin will leave the Cats hanging in a second if something better comes up. I was mad when Austin left but we have a cup to show for the year he was here. That's sports, its about winning. I don't care if Jones leaves in a year or two, we are a better team today than we were yesterday, and that's what matters and that's what's bugging you isn't it? I disagree with your definition of trolling... this is a BOMBER FAN FORUM... "pot shots" at the Riders are not only accepted, they are basically encouraged... if he went over to RiderFans and did this... then sure... The Eskimos are in for a nightmare off season. All or most of Jones assistants will move to Regina & you can bet a lot of FA from the Eskimos will follow. Wow, I think it's going to get ugly between the 2 teams. -

did what? put his own needs ahead of a pro sports franchise privately owned by some wealthy individual? gasp! The idea of loyalty to a team is out of date. It was a sucker play that owners used, when the players were basically indentured serfs. It also cons fans into supporting teams that are endlessly bad say... Minnesota Twins. The teams don't care about their employees. Players get fired at the drop of a hat. so do coaches. Lots of teams don't give a crap about the fans either. Just a vehicle for making money. In general, the idea of employee loyalty is really a relic of better days, when you actually could have one job for your entire life with the same employer. These days, employees, in any field, would be stupid to be loyal to anything other than their own well being, financial and otherwise. Jones was under contract to the Stamps. While under contract he called Scott Millanovich & said, "Buddy, congrats on the Argo gig. I want to join your staff just like we talked about when we were assistants in Montreal. Remember when we promised each other that the first one to become a head coach would hire the other one?" Milanovich knew he was under contract to the Stamps but went ahead & said, "You're my new Defensive Coordinator." Then Jones walked into John Hufnagel's office & said buh bye to a stunned Hufnagel who thought he was his DC & still a Stampeder assistant. The Argos never asked for permission to speak to Jones as he was already gone to Toronto so what was Hufnagel to do? He could have been cutthroat refusing Jones the right to go to Toronto but he didn't. He released Jones from his contractual obligations to the Stamps. Maybe he really should have played hardball with Jones but he didn't. And for breaking his contract deliberately, the Argos were fined a measely five grand by the CFL which is an absolute joke. So, there's looking out for oneself & still having integrity doing it. Then there's just being a jerk & a backstabber to get ahead. I wish Jones all the best rebuilding that sad sack team in Saskatchewan. That is, if he sticks around or quits. So, please don't talk to me about getting ahead & looking out for himself when he was under contract to the Stampeders. Jones now has the Big Chair that he coveted. Now the pressure begins to build the Riders into playoff contenders & GC champs while dealing with a rabid fanbase that EXPECTS a winner. We'll see if he does it. I'm not convinced. -

He did the same thing to the Stamps. The guy may be a very good football coach but he could run off & leave the Riders in a heartbeat if another team or league comes calling. The man is all in it for himself which I understand & don't begrudge him for being that way but I don't know if he'd be the guy I'd have rebuilding my team just because of his wandering ways, let's call it. I just don't know if he'll be around to finish the job he started. Rider fans all over themselves today, some mocking the Eskimos. Real classy. They forget Ed Hervey could have said NO! -
Honest Opinion - is CFL considered a "semi-pro" league?
iso_55 replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I remember 1971 & Don Jonas won the CFL MOP award. Going by memory, he threw something like 32 touchdowns & had 31 interceptions. Quarterbacks today are much more accurate with their passing & offenses today stretch the field both horizontally as well as vertically. Back in the 60's & 70's if you had a qb with a strong arm it was Long Bomb City. -
I disagree that this was the refs fault... you're right, it was the wrong call... but that's with the hindsight of seeing it in super slo-mo from 12 different camera angles... watch it in real time and tell me that it doesn't look like a textbook facemask... AND... for a split second the defender's finger was in Rodger's facemask. Agree that under the circumstances with Rodger's head yanking back & the defender's hand to the face or close to the face the ref had to make that call in real time. So, you can't say the call was awful. It was the only call the official could have made. The only ones complaining are Lions fans. And in football speak, Lions HC Jim Caldwell would say that his team never should have been in that situation to begin with. Also, Caldwell said they were caught flat footed on that play. They had the wrong defensive personnel in on that last play. He thought the Packers would try to score using laterals all over the field so the Lions never had their best athletes in on the final play. That's why Calvin Johnson stayed on the bench as he has the best vertical jump on their team.

SPuDs, he was in jail the equivalent of decades since he left the NFL in the mid 70's. If he wasn't in jail then he was living on the streets in Chicago. His dirty laundry was already well known so myself or anyone else isn't airing or saying anything bad about Herron that wasn't said before & was public knowledge. He was an addict & a dealer probably sold to young kids among others. He wasn't a nice guy. So, am I supposed to lie & say what an upstanding person he was for 24 hours? It is what it is. He wasted his life away & that is sad. I just hope he finally now has found peace. You might want to read the story before making blanket statements based on assumptions. Either way this is not the right time to attack the guys character, let it rest. Well, if you're referring to any Free Press stories I can't as I don't have an online subscription. Besides, I've read plenty of stories about Herron so what assumptions? In & out of prison for drug offenses since the late 70's. His criminal background is a matter of public record. For a lot of present day younger Bomber fans they may or may not have ever heard of him so his background is something of interest. Mack was a heckuva football player & I was a big fan when he played for us but the last time he suited up for the Bombers was the Western Conference Final in Novermber 1972. That was 43 years ago. His life didn't just come to a stop when he left here for the New England Patriots. He was responsible for the life choices he made afterwards. He wasted his life. I really do hope that Mack Herron has finally found peace.

If Omega had laid down right away for Hulk Hogan to get the 1, 2, 3 in a PPV like Jeff Jarrett did in 1995 at a WCW PPV would you still stand up for him because he is a friend? My point is wrestlers make bad choices all the time. All that match with the little girl did was convince millions of people that pro wrestling sucks. Why do you think Brock Lesnar gets so much heat? Because, he, the Undertaker & a few others look like they actually could brawl their way out of a bar fight vs 20 guys. Fighting invisible men & kids just makes people laugh, not at the match but at the business. Just look at the last year of WCW & the stupid gimmicky stuff they did. Wrestling in a swimming pool, Santa climbing into the ring to fight. I remember all that ****. In WWE Adam Rose wrestling a bunny, so where is his career now? Buried on the roster. Most fans I think would be insulted watching a 9 year old defeat a 40 year old ring veteran or fighting an invisible man. -

I remember the fiasco when Herron was arested & charged in May of 73 for simple possession of weed in his apartment & was promptly cut by then GM Earl Lunsford who was the REAL judge, jury & executioner. Turned out Herron's trial was about 8 months later & he never served any jail time but was ordered to make a public apology. As well as read a letter directed at kids in public about the evils of drug use & that was it. No criminal record, just a fine & it was over. He still could have played in 1973 & 74 but Lunsford released him. Lunsford did the same thing to WR Jim Thorpe who was caught at the border coming into Canada thru Windsor with a small amount of weed & hash a few days later, He was arrested & charged by the RCMP & Lunsford cut him as well. Anyway, within a couple of week in May of 1973 we lost the CFL's best running back, one of the elite receivers in the league at the time & then All Canadian left guard Bob Lueck retired. Of course our offense stunk in 1973 & we went from 10-6 in 1972 to 4-12 in 1973. I don't know about Thorpe as he disappeared from the CFL after he was arrested. I don't know if he was banned from coming into Canada or spent any time in jail. (Maybe he was blackballed by other CFL GMs?) I do know that Herron could have played thru his contract as it turned out the Crown really didn't go after him hard in trial. he got off with a slap on the wrist. But thanks to Lunsford, there were no second chances. Just that he was released months before his trial began. Not a good enough reason to cut Herron, I thought. And we sucked the next season...

Honest Opinion - is CFL considered a "semi-pro" league?
iso_55 replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Back in 2009, the offense we see now were just getting started. The zone read was something fairly new. It was used in college & people thought it wwould never work in pro football but it was made for the wider field. Now it's just boring football, Seldom do qbs run with the football so linebackers or DE's don't have to worry about that threat anyway. Zone read was not new to the CFL in 2009. You watched Burris and Reynolds do it for years prior to that. I know that. But it came into the league around 04 or 05 full time. It may have been there sooner but qbs were still dropping back from center. It became a base offense after that. I hate it. -
