And Here We Thought Jay Cutler Was A Tool. Then There's Johnny Manziel
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in General Discussion
I like his style. Style, what style? He's partying himself out of the NFL the way he's going. Right now, there aren't 31 teams in the NFL who'd pick the guy up on waivers because of the way he has approached the game, his bad attitude, lack of NFL skills at the qb position to be successful & that huge contract. Joe Namath used to party but at least he backed it up on the field. The guy was hung over & still beat the Baltimore Colts in SB III back in 1969. Got back to his hotel at 5:30 in the morning. Not saying that this is the lifestyle any player should emulate but he went out & played in the biggest game of his career. Manziel couldn't even make it to his last practice. I do like the line, "He might as well as throw a party because he can't throw a football'. LOL! At least get your facts right. He didn't skip a practice, he missed a treatment session for an injury. Read the story. Better yet, I'll help you out. Fifth paragraph down where it said Manziel never made it to either his physical therapy session or walk thru (practice) Saturday. -
Have you seen a doctor or hospital for that concussion of yours? Their fanbase is embarrassingly low on iq, football knowledge or even common decency.. Yet Riderfans is probably the best fan forum out there for CFL discussion. It most certainly is not. There's some quality posters there but the quality to absurdity ratio is way way too high. Too many homers makes it too much of a pain to read the quality posters. I still say this place has the best ratio. Yes there are unabashed Bomber homers here, but there are more CFL fans here who may favour the Bombers but have a real good appreciation of what is going on around the entire CFL not just their favourite team. Why would any fan of any other CFL team want to hang out just to deal with the dumb yokels on that board?? No thanks.

Bombers make $4.5 million payment on stadium debt

Pretty sure only iso was complaining.Where's Paul Friesen? **** man, I wasn't complaining. Give your stupid head a shake. -
Well, you're wrong. Or you refuse to listen as per the changes in the CFL already. I( believe that we move too slowly compared to other teams. If you think that's impatience, then so be it. Okay Mike, you tell me how you think things should be done. I already told you mine at least twice.

It's my understanding that DeVonne came to Winnipeg for an interview.

It's not about impatience. It's about the people running the team taking so much time to make any kind of a decision on just about anything. We look indecisive. Or they don't seem to know what they want. Or there's a power struggle. Other organizations can make the correct personnel & coaching decisions a lot faster than us. Everyone is on the same page. Why can't we? You don't think other teams debate and try to get favourites brought in? Why is it when we do due diligence and try to find the right guy we are "indecisive" or in the midst of a "power struggle"? If we jump the gun then we look foolish for not doing the proper research.. Smh. Ever thought why we don't get the guy(s) we actually want? What's due dilligence? Are you saying the Bombers don't seem to know who Mike Benevides, Devonne Claybrooks, Khari Jones, George Cortez & Ritchie Hall already are? What they're like as people? How they'd fit in with the Bombers? I find that hard to believe. Like these guys all haven't run together on the same road in an 8 & then a 9 team league before with MOS & Walters? If this was the 32 team NFL, I could understand. I sure know that I want my coaching staff hired based upon whether or not I'd have a beer with them. I think in the past with head coaches here & elsewhere it's really come down to something as simple as that. So why would you essentially suggest that's what we do again? Didn't say that. There are ways to expedite the process & speed things up. Any organization can take as long or do it as fast as they want. I'm saying speed the process up because the best candidates will be gone soon. Can we just call a spade a spade and admit this really just boils down to your trademark impatience? It's the holiday season so news is going to be at a standstill and if the media reports are accurate, we've already met with Claybrooks, Benevides, Hall and possibly Barron Miles. Hell, we were meeting with candidates before we even made the firing official. It's not as if it's as simple as interviewing the guy to find out if he's interested. This is just an educated guess, but I would imagine O'Shea wants to know what a potential candidate would plan to run scheme-wise, how he assesses our current defensive personnel, how he feels about our ratio flexibility, how he views the free agent pool, how he assessed last year's defense, what his thoughts are as far as assistants go, what his practices would be like, how he likes to handle players, how he is on the whiteboard and the list goes on. Then after they compile all of that information, they have to go back and see if it fits with the current mantra within our staff. You can't learn all that from bumping into a guy on a road trip. I love the impatience angle when people here dare to ask questions. You're all the same people who mocked me & others when we said the hiring of Etch was a huge mistake in February & his deserved firing after this past season should never happen. After all, it wasn't Etch's fault you all said. It was the offense's fault that the defense failed. Then the Doug Brown article came out a couple of days ago & we can see why this dumb ass coach never lasts wherever he goes. So, I look at all the Usual Suspects who drink the Blue & Gold kool aid & criticize anyone here who questions what goes on with this team & just chuckle. Mike to answer your question, I say again... expedite the process. Make it faster. Have the interviews, ask the questions, do the due dilligence but speed the process up. The Riders already offered the DC job to Benevides but he wants to think about it over Xmas & New Years. If... I say if... we truly want Mike as our DC then that's our opportunity to put together a counter offer to get him to come here. If we don't want Benevides then we move on, I guess. Although I don't know why we would want to. Since the Grey Cup, the Riders have fired both O & D coordinators & will have hired two new ones (if Benevides joins them) & we stil haven't filled the one vacant coaching position on our team??? The Lions fired Benevides & replaced him with Jeff Tedford as the new HC & we took 6 1/2 weeks to fire Etcheverry??? Major coaching changes to two CFL teams & yet you & others say I'm impatient??? You think that those teams haven't done their due dilligence? They moved quickly & got the men they wanted. Meanwhile back in Sleepy Hollow on the U of M campus life continues on as usual. To me, it will be pretty damning if the Riders hire Benevides away from us & then Hall prefers to stay in Saskatchewan with reduced responsibilities (with a reduced paycheque) rather than come here to be our DC. Then we have to ask why?

I have no problem with doing a proper search but things should be expedited quickly after January 1st because the quality & proven coaches are available & on the move. Saying there's no hurry is wrong when truthfully there is a reason to hurry as decisions are being made.

Bombers make $4.5 million payment on stadium debt

Without the new stadium that money wouldn't even exist I know. Just sayin'. No other team has the debt situation we have. It took that in order for our politicians to build it. -
And Here We Thought Jay Cutler Was A Tool. Then There's Johnny Manziel
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in General Discussion
I usually pull for high profile qbs to succeed just because of what they're in for. The big money & all the trappings & problems that come with it, the pressure to take over their team & the expectation of being the saviour, having to play well to justify why a qb was taken in the first round & more. But this guy? Like Cryin Ryan Leaf, I hope he crashes & burns. Manziel's doing a great job of that so far. This guy is no & will never become another Peyton Manning. Hell, he won't even become another Geno Smith the way he's going. Man, if Johnny Football was my son, I'd slap him upside the head & say, "Smarten up!" Me thinks he has too many Yes Men in his entourage telling him what he wants to hear instead of what he needs to hear. -
Two or three? My gawd man, you're being kind.

All I wish is that the Bombers would go hard after some of these coaches until they sign them instead of MOS saying there's no hurry. After all, he took 6 1/2 weeks to fire his good friend Etch. Why do the Bombers always have the perception that either they can't afford coaches/players or just don't care if they don't get the guys they want? As far as recruiting & signing coaches & players, why aren't we the hammer instead of always being the nail? I suspect that we'll be this way in free agency as well. Good players we need to improve will sign elsewhere & the reaction from the team will be that we didn't really want them anyway even though we did. There seems to be no sense of urgency with this group from the Team President down to the HC compared to other organizations. I don't get the sense that losing is totally unacceptable with Miller, Walters & MOS. They talk a good game but I don't see enough results. As long as Miller runs the show it seems the other 2 will be protected. That's the IMPRESSION I have with the Bombers. I know I'll catch flack with these comments but whether I'm right or wrong it's hard not to feel that way. #slowboattochina

Bombers make $4.5 million payment on stadium debt

This debt will cripple this team over time. Glad they made their payment but sigh, imagine if that money went back into football ops or the bank. -
Cutler is a coach killer. Even when he plays well he just gives off negative vibes all the time. All the tools to be a great one. But that's his problem, he has all the tools but he's also one himself. Always either pissed off or indifferent. Not a leader by any stretch of the word. How can you win with a player like that? He'll get the next HC in Chicago fired as well. Yup. His history does not lie. If Trestman's mentoring, coaching, tutoring had no effect on Cutler, I say good luck Chicago. Cutler is hands down one of the worst team 'leaders' of all time. I remember a MNF game three years ago. A rookie OT missed his block & Cutler was sacked. He pulled a Drew Tate & screamed at him on the field on national television. Even some of his teammates called him out on that one saying how wrong he was. That's not leadership. That's being an ass.

Burris restructures contract with REDBLACKS

Sure it is but not the only thing. If only fixing a 2-16 team was so easy. Just go out & find some guys who can catch & start winning. -

They haven't fire Dyce - he's still listed as STC on their website. And when has Hall ever coached special teams? Does Dyce ever coach ST when he took the job? And do you realize that Hall was a punt returner before? Yes Dyce had some experience with coaching special teams from when he was here. Being a punt returner doesn't mean Hall can effectively coach ST. Making Hall a ST coordinator would be an insult.

Like Will Smith influencing Kendrick Lamar. Smith grew up in Wynnefield, PA a middle class suburb of Philadelphia. Lamar grew up in Compton, CA. I wonder if Lamar liked the Fresh Prince of Bel Air as a kid? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW3PFC86UNI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZW7et3tPuQ

My son, the Stamps fan that he is as he was born in Calgary bought me an autographed Wally Buono Stamps mini helmet. He was at an Athletes In Action breakfast on the Friday of GC week & brought it for Wally Buono to sign. Pretty cool gift. Put it in my rec room beside my Bomber mini helmet.
