Trestman's NFL time ending it looks like
iso_55 replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Is a quote from someone??? Cuz it's just plain wrong... Cutler, Forte, Bennett, Marshall, Jeffery.... they have some of the best offensive weapons in the NFL... Defence is a different story though... So,how am I wrong then? It always comes down to talent. Whether it's on both sides of the ball or in just one aspect of the team. -

I think you have to look at one thing. Talent. The Bears don't have enough of it. -

He still has time to turn it around. Too bad as he is a very good coach but he is saddled with Jay Cutler. -
Too Little for Ottawa in Expansion Draft?
iso_55 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You know, with Hank at the helm & a corps of great receivers that team might win 3 games next year. -
I'm not going to stop. I love bashing Priders. I'm sure they're all planning the parade route for the Grey Cup with Migs as the Grand Marshall after snapping a FIVE GAME LOSING STREAK. Screw the Riders & screw their fans.

Too Little for Ottawa in Expansion Draft?
iso_55 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Curious what your thoughts of what would have been a fair draft? I also have a problem with making an expansion team stronger then the teams they are plucking from. I thought the expansion draft was quite fair. Sure Ottawa sucked this year but they got some good pieces to build with and now get to add with another draft drafting first overall "I also have a problem with making an expansion team stronger then the teams they are plucking from." Why? Why not set up the draft so they have a middle of the pack team and are immediately competitive? Why punish a newbie? Okay. Let's all go out & sing coom by ya... -
Beware the Buddhist dictum:" Before you set out to seek revenge, dig two graves." No I like the other.... revenge is a dish best served cold.

So do I... I want some executions.

I got one better - as a coach I survived not one but TWO 2 - 14 seasons, back to back, with an existing club. Granted, I was a legend in that town, and was fired after the second year, but I learned. I went on to be a very successful Coach in Edmonton and Hamilton, winning a Grey Cup in each city as a coach, in between my gigs as a color commentator on the CBC. Do you know who I am? Jim Spavital went 2-14 in 1970 as the rookie HC of the Bombers. He wasn't fired in the off season which some fans had hoped for but GM EarlLunsford kept him around. He was rewarded for his loyalty to Spav as the team improved to 7-8-1 in 1971 to snag a third place playoff spot in the West for the first time since 1966. Then under Spavital the Bombers improved to 10-6 in 1972. They were the best regular season CFL team that year only to lose the West Final to the Riders at Winnipeg Stadium. A team that just got into the playoffs with an 8-8 record. Massive upset. So, maybe the redblacks improve enough to get a playoff spot next year or win 6 or 7 games. Who knows? But to fire Campbell after a single season? Well, that would be a typical dickish Marcel Desjardins move if he thought he'd be saving his own skin. I'm curious what happened to the Bombers that day in 1972 iso? Before my time. Were you at that game or did you watch it on tv? Edit: Ok I see you were at the game, but I'm not familiar with this phantom call. Can't find any video on youtube either Chances are you'll never see it either anywhere as the CFL as well as the CTV & CBC Networks never saved their game day footage. The CFL HOF probably doesn't have any footage either which is a damned shame. Let me set it up for you. The game was tied 24-24. On the final play of the game Rider kicker Jack Abendschan missed a 35 yard FG. We had 3 returners in the end zone with expressed instructions to kick it out if they couldn't return it out by running as the game would then go to OT. Two of the returners were punter Mike Law & Walt McKee our FG kicker. After a series of punts back & forth in & out of the end zone we were called for no yards on the punt that the Riders had fielded & kicked back into the end zone. Ref blew the play dead & the ball moved to our 20 yard line & Riders kicked the winning FG with no time left after they missed it the first time. They won the game in the shittiest way possible. The season was over because of that ******* bullshit call. The ball was kicked in & out of the end zone at least three times as the game was tied when this was going on. Thing is, the refs called US for No Yards when the Riders were just as guilty of No Yards when we caught the football in the end zone but of course no call vs them. That's what everyone was angry about. The fans were in a frenzy & wanted referees blood. I had been to every game since 1969 & season ticket holder from 1974 to 1990 & I never saw the fans like that before or after. Interesting. Was this a big deal with the media in Winnipeg after it happened? I guess it must have been. I would imagine our play-by-play announcers and the national play-by-play announcers would have made some comments on it as well. If it would have been 2014 instead of 1972, the call would have been all over social media & CFL sites. It would have generated huge discussion & outrage. This place would have exploded like we never have seen. Riderfans would have crashed. It was a huge deal but only by 1972 standards. The benefits of today's better camera angles, slow mo replay & higher on field production would have shown just how bad that call was. What a horrible way to end a potential Grey Cup championship season. The Bombers were the best team in the CFL that year by a wide margin. Interestingly, it was the first year that the CFL went to a single game knockout from the old best of 3 semi & best of 3 Western final. And the first time CFL playoffs were played on a Sunday as I recall. I guess you could say the CFL entered the modern era as far as playoffs went. I cursed the new format as I knew if we played them best of 3 that year we'd have won.

Too Little for Ottawa in Expansion Draft?
iso_55 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ottawa had the most liberal expansion rules ever for their draft. I agree with 17. Individual teams can only give so much & they did. Way more than the previous Ottawa expansion draft. Don't you remember Desjardins mouthing off that in the fourth & final round he didn't want a single player from us??? So he just picked a name. He also drafted Kohlert who he probably knew had no intention of staying in Ottawa. Well, the pompous jerk got what he deserved then. Two wins. He recruited absolute DOGS for receivers. But their OL is better than ours so they're already ahead of the game. So, I don't agree with the premise of this thread. -
That entire fanbase are assclowns. I hope they get the **** kicked out of them in Edmonton. And I hate Edmonton but not next game.

You go girl!! 0-18 would still be too good for those dickheads.

I don't care if the mods delete this post or change it. But the day is coming for those pompous a s s h o l e fans. And when it comes I'll be the first one cheering & setting off fireworks. Karma's a *****.

Are we going to be doing this all off season??? My effin gawd.

Willy is our qb & the sooner people here accept it the better. Not Marve.

Getting stronger & bigger makes it easier to absorb some of the hellacious hits Drew took this year. It should help preventing soft tissue injuries better. Of course it won't help when whacking a thumb off a helmet or tearing a knee ligament. If he comes in about 20 lbs stronger we'll see a different player I think for the better.but again, what does that have to do with being tough? Exactly.. Willy is plenty tough.. Getting bigger or more muscles isnt going to add to that... you're tough or you're not.. Ive seen muscle bound meatheads who were the biggest pansies and ive seen scrawny beanpoles who have pain tollerences beyond belief.. Adding muscle might make him morw sturdy or resillient but thats bout it... That's the general idea, SPuDs.

Good to know - I never saw that game (was a bit too young then but I remember my buddy always telling me about that rouge - apparently it was won on a 'phantom' penalty call made by a biased official which resulted in a rouge or something like that). Good find Iso!!!! The guy I though of I saw play - sad part of all what I typed - that's from memory. I looked it up later and was shocked I remembered everything correctly. Wish I could remember where I put my fricken car keys instead I can still find my underwear in the morning so I'm doing good. That was the most painful loss I ever experienced as a fan. It still hurts 42 years later. I'll never forget the fans rushing the field after the game looking for the refs & they bolted to their locker room full speed as there was a riot on the field. It was ugly... Fans wanted their blood as the call was so ridiculously biased. I was so mad as a 17 year old, I remember actually wanting to kill them. It's crazy how just a game can make a person feel that much rage & hatred even for just a few minutes. I was way up in the west upper deck for the game so I wasn't able to get to the field, thankfully.

If, if & buts were candy & nuts we'd all have a Merry Xmas.

Your comments remind me of TV's Pee Wee (Herman's) Playhouse before he jerked off in a porn theatre. I just call it as I see it man. No hiding the truth. No, there's comments & there's just... stupid. Like the bomber coach bashers on here. Some of the stuff you say or the threads you start, what is the alcohol of choice when you start them? Hey, I just call it as I see it, man. No hiding the truth.

Willy has to hit the weights & gain 30 lbs like Reilly did & then make a point to be in the weight room all season.

True.
