At this stage of the season, you're not bringing in a fresh rookie anywhere and throwing him right into the lineup. That's not how football works in week 16. Of course you can bring players in for a look, but you're not going to say they are better than X player at this point in time. But to be satisfied with the status quo? Competition is always a good thing. It's never bad. NFL cuts were a month ago & yet we stood pat.So we brought in a couple of receivers. No intl OL. No intl linebackers, running backs or DL?? Maybe one or two guys could have helped us immediately. If McManus is as good a scout as he is supposed to be then we may have found us a a keeper or two. We'll never know though as we didn't do anything. How can a team that went 3-15 last year & is on a 5 or 6 game losing streak now just blow off its fans by saying that nothing can be done? And MOS saying that his job is to build & not tear down? Just execute & play better? How naive does he think the Bomber fanbase is? Really? No his job & the same with Walters is to win. I know this team has a lot of holes & to make the playoffs is a herculean task. All the more reason to bring in players to fill these holes. Players to push the ones we have to play better. Or to push the deadwood out the door.

Did you mean Joe West or Jeff Fuller? It seems that Fuller, West and Price are all regularly out of the lineup. Fuller worse than the other 2. He lasted one play against the Riders coming off the 6 game injured list. Caught a slant & blew out both knees. Done... For.... Season...

Someone older than me! Love it!! Welcome. Maybe you can tell us your memories going back to the days of Osborne Stadium? I'd love to read your comments.

We need to be active in the FA market to make up for our draft shortcomings & to bridge the time for young inexperienced players to learn their positions behind experienced players. Free agency is the only short term fix the Bombers have. That & drafting much, much better over all as an organization. But as I said, a successful draft year might take 3 seasons before the the Bombers see any fruit from it.

What good is Watson to us if he's always injured? I think we should trade him in the off season for another receiver. WR Joe Fuller in Calgary is the same. Always injured. Fuller is a talent but...Hate to see guys get injured but there comes a time when it's time to move on. The only thing is Watson is National so he'll be given more leeway than an International player.

It's not better than last year just because, it's better than last year because it's better than last year. We've used the same qb every game this year, that alone is leaps and bounds better than last year, and he's even performed well! The team doesn't just roll over and die this year. It's better than last year because the bar last year was set so incredibly low. I don't disagree & even agree with you to a large extent 17 but like TBurg said that alone shouldn't be good enough. This team is better in some areas like qb but on the OL other than Morley it's the same or even worse than last season. We can't consistently stop the run & I think at times this season last year's defense under Casey Creehan has played better than this year's version under Etch. And for me to say that The Crazy Man had a better defense well, that's an indictment on the work Etch has been doing & the kind of schemes he runs along with the kind of personnel he likes. I really do think that there are much better DC's out there that would do a better job than what we have now. I can live with MB as an OC but not Etcheverry as DC. You are letting your bias against Etch cloud your judgement here. I don't like it either and ideally we'd have someone else there, but the D with all it's warts has been a lot better than we got last year. There has been a lot of progress made this year, enough that there shouldn't be criticism of it. Now if they don't improve the depth and their recruiting in the offseason then we will talk about whether or not there has been enough, but for one year considering the mess that was going on here it's plenty. You have to keep in mind how unappealing a destination Winnipeg was. It was always going to take time to get away from that. Let's hope the destination here is now a better choice.I'd love for us to be active in FA & make a splash signing some high impact players this February.

Lawless: Bombers need to sign Ben Heenan
iso_55 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The only one who thinks we should sign Heenan is Gary Lawless. Never happen. -
No, some of us aren't mindless automatons who are programmed to believe that everything is good despite a 5 game winless streak. Or it's better than last year just because...

Where is Watson Lake? From 1989-90 I spent a decade living in Thompson. OMFG.

How do you know Walters will do what you suggest? He may be happy with the status quo? For the millionth time I'll say how about dumping our DC first & starting from scratch actually building a defense that has some actual big run stoppers on the DL & at LB that are tough physically & aren't pushed back 5 to 8 yards every time the ball is run. And who runs a conventional defense. There are some good young coaches that are ready to move up to be coordinators instead of retreads like Etch. Not sure what you are arguing against -- I said replace Etch in my post. I haven't been happy with him since day 1 and knew how this would play out -- just like in SK. No, saw that.I was referring to your points before Etch. I sense a great deal of stubborness in the people managing & coaching this organization, like Joe Mack was... That they're 115% right & everyone else is wrong. And in MOS's case, if you're not with him then you're against him. Something I don't like seeing. I thought we were past that.

Goes down much too easily. He never lowers his shoulder to run over people as he goes down on first contact. Never seen a back like that before. Well, there was one. Victor Ike in Calgary 10 years ago. Horrible back. Had something like a 2.5 yd rushing average.

Walters not bringing in players is what bothers me the most. We are supposed to have this great scouting staff. Well for **** sake we could use their so called expertise & connections now & what does Walters do? Absofreakinglutely nothing. As far as MOS goes, a little less chip on his shoulders with the media & making players like Kuale accountable would go a long way in helping this team become a winner. This "us against them" mentality has to stop. Perhaps you haven't been reading the bombers new from so far away...we brought in two new receivers just last week, and have more players on the practice roster, just haven't inserted them yet, but it appears that will happen soon But no guys that will push where we need them on the DL, OL or linebacker. Ameet Pall, whoop de doo.

It's not just for this season. It has to be for next season as well & beyond. That's what competition & evaluating is all about. To find players to push some to play better & for others to push out the door. But to have a philosophy of we'll either win or lose with the guys we got isn't smart. It's what losing organizations do. We seem satisfied with the players we have... And now our record I guess as nothing seems to change. You can be a good fan but not be happy. If you support the team it's okay to ask questions.

Look at Cornish... Leads the league in rushing & has played FIVE games??? That guy is so much better than anybody else. And a difference maker. He doesn't go down easily. He'll run around over & through tacklers. Guy can beat you with power & speed. Now look at Grigsby.

A strong receiving core makes the OL instantly better. Disagree, it doesn't when the qb is hurried or on his back all game. Can't go thru his progressions or reads to find the open receiver. When a qb doesn't have time then it doesn't matter how good his receivers are. A great OL is the engine that drives the car. Great receivers are the hot paint job.

Absolutely NOT!! No way.

I can live with Bellefeuille as I think his playcalling works if he has better players. Our OL is terrible & that plays into a lot of our struggles offensively. But not Etcheverry & his defense. For us to continue to improve he really has to go.

I'm just disappointed that Walters has decided to sit on his ass & not bring in players to challenge the starters we have or for injury replacements. It's business as usual & I find that so frustrating as a fan. Management won't do anything to make the team better. It's almost like Wade Miller has told Walters to quit spending on the football operations side for this year & they've written the season off. Not saying Miller has but it seems strange that everything is status quo & we are on a 5 game losing streak. I didn't say I wasn't frustrated. I doubt they've decided to stop spending on football ops. Walters and O'Shea believe, rightly or wrongly, in the players they've brought in. They aren't going to make any real changes until the offseason when they sit back and go over the whole team again. You and I and others disagree with it, but it is what it is. It's a big mistake. This team obviously isn't good enough & to stick with players that can't win is something I'd expect from Joe Mack not this regime. This season is fast becoming a write off now. This is not what Walters & Miller said they'd be doing when they were hired. Frustrating for me doesn't begin to describe how I feel. As far as being a Bomber fan goes, that'll never change as I have been a fan since 1965. Diamond anniversary next year, baby!!
