  1. The only other coach I remember being remotely like Austin was Vic Rapp in BC in the late 70's. His temper was legendary. If a player made a mistake, the last place he wanted to be was on the BC Lions sidelines because he'd hear about it with Rapp screaming at him. His act grew tired after a few seasons & he was let go. Initially, he had success but his yelling & screaming turned his players off. I remember one game where he felt the Eskimos tried to run the score up on the Lions & he wanted to fight Hugh Campbell on the field when they shook hands. Interestingly, Rapp had been an assistant coach in Edmonton before taking the HC job in BC. But under Ray Jauch & not Campbell.
  2. I said we were a well-coached 3-3 team... and that our QB has the 'it' factor. There's your two main differences. This is all true and not nearly as 'negative' as some posters want to make it out to be. Look at the roster - our talent level is very similar to last year... exception being the DBs and our kicker. and our receivers. and our offensive line. They're both making a world of difference. I always welcome the discussion but your opinion this time around ... Seems like you're outsmarting yourself a little. If in the off-season, if someone predicted that Steve Morely would be one of the better centres in the league? What would your reaction have been... Or that our starting receivers would be Kelly-Moore-JFG-Denmark-Kohlert... this lineup strikes fear into exactly no defence in the league. (And we didn't last year either...) Would you have agreed that we wouldn't miss a beat replacing Alex Hall with Greg Peach...? That Ejiro Kuale could step in for Muamba? Coaching and having a real QB... that's the difference right now. We will find out in our last four games of the season either way. Floyd, enjoy the 5-1 record & quit throwing water on the fire. My Gawd, some Bomber fans just can't enjoy the fact that WE ARE IN SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST PLACE IN THE WEST. Always have to be "Yeah... but..."
  3. I'm saying none of that. What I am saying is he had nothing to do with the Bombers 2012 football schedule. I also said he could be blamed for a number of things but the schedule is not one of them. He screwed up with saying IGF would be ready. He screwed up with Burke and Mack. But he had nothing to do with asking for 4 road games to start 2012 because he wasn't hired when the Bombers would have told the League's scheduler makers. You're choice to defend the guy. Nobody else is. You sure like to micro manage & pick at things people say more than anyone here. I see it on so many of your posts. You focus on one thing & then pick that hill to die on. Well good, Buchko didn't have anything to do with the schedule. Good for him. CFL Exec of the year. Big loss when he got fired. It's hard to believe the Bombers recovered from such a traumatic event. You sure read more into what people say than anyone I've ever come across. You just pick the weirdest hills to defend & die upon. You speculate a lot of things & correct people without having really no more knowledge than the posters you are correcting. I'm not saying you don't know your stuff as you obviously do but maybe you should be a sports editor. One of the problems is you have confused a dislike for re-writing history with defending someone. Isn't speculating pretty much the same as an opinion - I think you'll find that pretty much everyone here speculates quite a bit. BTW, if you think I don't look things up first you are mistaken. So, you look things up. What do you want, a medal? Still doesn't mean you're right. You speculate & correct people more than anyone here & you're not always right. How do you know Buchko was not part of any decisions between his hire & his start? You dont. You actually think that he would just walk in first day on the job totally oblivious to the issues the club faced such as the stadium construction delay & the affects on the schedule? I highly doubt that. Again, speculation on my part but I would think this would be a common business practice for him to be up to speed on that one. You have no way of saying otherwise without asking Buchko yourself. Anyway,I was trying to be nice to you by saying you know your stuff & should be a sports editor without this digressing into a pissing match. I suggest we end this here, now.
  4. Now this, I don't get? Well, I kind of do because it's Rider fans and they can be a bit low in the IQ department. Last year, it didn't matter who we played, cause WE were the garbage team (and this so called 'garbage' team kicked their everloving a$$es all over IGF in our only home win of the year last year). What a bunch of ignoramuses they are. A win is a win is a win - and I wouldn't call Hamilton 'garbage' they've been improving every week, just got off to a very shaky start. Ottawa - very motivated in their first ever game (as expected). Montreal - they were coming off a win and also very motivated. Sk has looked like garbage more than once this season, but I wouldn't call them a 'garbage' team. Bombers are full value for their 5 - 1 record (including the loss they got their a$$es kicked by the 'smos that wasn't a "oh if we got this call or made this catch" type of game). What I mean by that - as much as they deserved to lose to Edmonton, they deserved to win the other 5 games. I have half a mind (I know I know too much credit I'm giving myself there) to head over to riderville and spew out some nonsense but frankly, waste of my time (i'd much rather waste it here). All that being said - I'm picking SK to win, but won't be the least bit surprised if we smoke 'em Thursday Surprisingly about 40% of the posters in Riderville are predicting a BB victory due to injuries, IGF and a shortened week of preparation. Who gives a rats ass about Rider Fans? Let them say what they want.
  5. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
  6. I don't have any sympathy for other teams or their fans but it's bad form to take shots at them IMO. Stay classy my friend... stay classy. Oh, I want go any other team fan forums & gloat but I certainly can enjoy their suffering & sorrow for a change.j
  7. Just so you know, when Burris played in Calgary & he had his share of games where he threw a stupid pass into triple coverage for a pick to lose a game he was nicknamed Frank by a local media personality. The nickname stuck in Calgary & Hank didn't like it. When he played like he did last night he's Frank. When he looks All World then he's Hank. Ergo Hank & Frank. The media guy was Bruce Dowbiggin. He wrote the story like a Dr Jekyll-Mr Hyde scenario.
  8. JFG has proven he can play & I think is a better receiver than Kohlert. At least we know he's fearless. So I think Kohlert sits. JFG deserves to play.
  9. Well TBurgess, we've been through enough turmoil as fans the past few years to last us a lifetime so now it's somebody else's turn. I really have no sympathy for other teams' travails as they had no sympathy for us. We were the league doormats & every other team & fanbase loved to step all over us. Now we can step on them.
  10. There's always the Rod Black drinking game. Think TSN cares that 99% of CFL fans think Black is an absolute joke? Think Black cares?

  12. Here's another thing we learned: Marcel Desjardins isn't a great GM. He was a disaster in Hamilton & I love the fact that losing has probably wiped that smug look off his face. I honestly believe that he thought the redblacks would be 2-3 or even 3-2 at this point. Welcome to reality, Marcel.
  13. Edmonton doesn't impress me more than any other team in the CFL. To say, we're a very good 3-3 team???
  14. So, question I had was why didn't we do that with Jade Etienne? Send him back to the U of S to play & develop instead of wasting a roster spot for him his rookie season? Seems that was the big mistake with him.
  15. Hank Burris never played last night. Frank Burris did.
  16. Way, way, WAY too much of that this season.
  17. All Tim Tebow does... is he can't throw. He's terrible. He'd get eaten alive up here trying to throw to the wide side of the field. The ball would just hang up & if you think Troy Smith has accuracy trouble, he's Ricky Ray compared to Tebow.
  18. At 75, the game should pass him by because he really should be permanently retired. What he is doing in Montreal is just desperation by Jim Popp. Let him live out the remaining years of his life with his family in Oregon in peace. Maybe he needs the money, I don't know. I mean, they didn't force him to come.
  19. That was the most spineless thing I've seen out of a football player since Brock Ralph Spineless AND pathetic. He should be cut.
  20. I would think so. No surprise there.
  21. Als should make a trade with Edmonton for Nicholls as Jones & Hervey seem to really like Pat White. Why, I have no idea. His only claim to fame is having a bitching session with Nick Saban over a car.
  22. yes Hall was coming along Certainly would be an upgrade over Brink.
  23. Now that - is the question. Good going BigBlue - and the Al's issues definitely revolve around this guy (well, him and the management that put him there). For years he was to be the 'heir apparent' and that's what they planned for. If they had a real 'heir', like a Drew Willy, or a Mike Reilly (still can't get over his being O player of the month but looking back he was the most 'consistent' I guess). So after all those years of 'grooming', he's gone, and they have, Alex Brink, and the guy I called as a bum (man I'm good if I do say so myself) in Troy Smith. My prediction before the season started, I said Montreal would be dead last unless they got themselves a QB, then they could get up into 6th place (which looks like second in the east) but as long as Troy was there they'd be bad. One game against BC, where their D won, and one game against us, where, for some unknown reason, Troy wasn't overthrowing his receivers by 20 yards, and that's it. All the other games he literally looks like a fish out of water. To answer your question... Adrian McPherson was signed in the off season by the Stamps. However, prior to training camp he was released because he hadn't recovered from an injury he suffered last year in the Arena League. I'm not 100% certain but I believe he had a serious knee injury. Anyway, when he was released Huff said he was disappointed that he wouldn't be coming to camp as he signed AM for a veteran presence to have a role similar to Kevin Glenn. Don't know the status of McPherson now. If he can play or if he ever will.
