Nicholls won 2 games with that team last year which in itself could be considered a miracle.

Jets vs Oilers Heritage Classic
iso_55 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Agreed. The really old guys unfortunately due to age & health just can't play anymore. The old guys I think of when I think of the WHA Jets are Bobby Hull, Ab McDonald, Bill Sutherland & Joe Daley. It's too bad but it is what it is. So, I think the Heritage roster is a good mix of players from the WHA pre 1979 & NHL from 1979. -

No issues with you Goalie so no worries. I just read Frosty's opinion who called Mike Ford being on the team a "WTF choice" which I felt was really unfair, especially if he never saw him play. I don't have an issue with Frosty either except to say he's being really hard on Ford. I'd have liked to have seen Terry Ruskowski & Rich Preston on the team as well as Anders Hedberg & Ulf Nilsson but perhaps they were asked & just couldn't be there. -
Milt called him a crybaby. LOL!

No one asked Mike to try. He was expressing his opinion which is fine.

Jets vs Oilers Heritage Classic

Mike Ford was a minor league journeyman defenseman like a lot of players were when he signed with the Jets, (I believe) prior to the 75-76 season. He had a cannonading slap shot as fast, if not faster than Hull's. So, he became a point specialist on the PP. His shot was low & extremely accurate & the Jets forwards on the PP feasted on deflections that his shots caused. If a Mike Ford a shot got thru the opposition goalie had to deal with that terrifying shot. If it was just wide there'd be a huge BANG off the boards that would make the Arena crowd gasp. Ford was intimidating on the PP for the Jets. When he original signed he was an average defenseman maybe even a bit of a liability but his play behind the blue line improved over the years & by the time he was finished as a Jets player he wasn't a bad in his own end either. Again as Noeller said, some of you young guys just dismiss this selection as some strange WTF pick because he played in the WHA before your time so you don't feel he should be there but Ford deserves to be on the Heritage Jets team as much as anyone else. -
I don't detect "anger" here. I just detect football fans discussing the future of Drew Willy. Talk about over statement.
-
If Nicholls went down & we were in the playoffs would I want Drew Willy or Dominique Davis to start? Actually the way Willy has played it may not be the end of the world for Davis to play considering just how poorly Willy has been for us. I just can't see that scenario as being as an apocalyptic moment as some might think. Let's put it this way, playing Drew Willy wouldn't be that huge of an advantage for the Bombers because of the way he has played. Or put another way, chances are in the playoffs we'd lose with Willy, so I'd rather have Davis playing getting the experience than the chronically underperforming veteran Willy. So no, I wouldn't favour keeping Drew Willy here anymore just as an injury insurance as there's no guarantee he'd play well even with another opportunity. With the salary cap as tight as it is, if we can free up a substantial amount of money to get rid of Willy then it should be done.

Imagine the criticism had he lost? That he wasn't focusing on the game but himself?

Just because you never heard of Mike Ford it doesn't mean he's not deserving to be on the Jets team. Or Marois? He was drafted by Fergie's Rangers in & then John brought him here as well after he left New York. Not a bad defenseman for us as I recall. Tkachuk is morbidly obese, I doubt he could play & be safe. -

It's our history not the Coyotes. -
One of you guys needs to change your name. It's hard to keep track of who is saying who & what.
-
There used to be a linebacker for the Argos named Sam Cvijanovich. Jack Wells could never pronounce his last name (See-yan-o-vitch) so he did what jack Wells did, he changed his name to Alphabet & called him Sam Alphabet on the CJOB radio broadcasts & the nickname stuck. He became Sam Alphabet.

The polls are brutal towards Trump. Depending on the polls, anywhere from a 9-15 point lead by Clinton. In 1 poll, Trump has 1% support among Blacks. He's losing in all the swing states, the rust belt states & places like Florida. Losing support among GOP party officials, congressmen & women as well as Senators. There's speculation that it could get even worse.

Popp shouldn't be coaching the Als. Anyone hired to replace Popp should be left alone to do their job by Popp & Wettenhall. -

Why is it I can watch a game on CBS, ESPN, NBC (as long as no Canadian ads are being inserted into the game feed) & virtually no commercials bother me? Yet, I watch CFL on TSN & I just want to swear when most Canadian ads come on... -
The other thing I noticed this season is that teams aren't using their backup qbs to run as much short yardage. Nicholls just stays in. I guess they don't want to get Drew Willy hurt or sacrificed at $410,000 a year. The Bombers could use Davis but choose not to. But I noticed BC uses Jennings, BLM is starting to play more short yardage over Andrew Buckley. Ottawa kept Burris in on short yardage last game. Before that Harris. Brock Jensen may have been used earlier in the season. In recent seasons past, if a starting qb was hurt & out for a number of games, the #2 qb would move up & the #3 would take over short yardage.
-
I'm going to pay more attention to see if teams run the I Form more than I thought at goal line or short yardage.
