Sigh ... this is what it used to be like to be a Bomber fan
iso_55 replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There was a lot of fanfare when he came over to TSN a few years ago but they never really utilized his talents. He kind've just disappeared. -
Brohm was okay. He wasn't great. He was good. But that's not saying much. That was about it. Nice td pass but if he's our starter if Willy goes down then we won't win a single game.

Our offense is miles ahead of last year. Even with a stinko offensive line. I like what Goosen brings to the table. He'll be a good one. Trouble is, there's not more young guys like him. Who was the RT who got pwned when we needed a first down & Marve got sacked? What a freaking pylon. That's the kind of garbage blocking that needs to stop. Maybe we need to look at trading for a legitimate starting tackle even if it means giving up an asset or 2 but our offensive line HAS to get better fast! Right now, I'd give up a future first rounder & a starter to get a great offensive lineman to shore that line up.

Don Wittman gone. Ron Lancaster gone. Cal Murphy gone. Jack Gotta gone. Ty Jones gone. Yeah, this was a great team. They should have had one, maybe two more Grey Cups. Tommy Clements was a superb qb. It was a fun team to watch for sure. I was at that game too. I had season tickets in Section V Row 29, Seats 12 & 13. Right on the 55 yard line. -
Some interesting even encouraging game stats ...

Jury's out on the defense. I'll give them 4 or 5 games before I start calling for Etch's head. Reason to be optimistic BUT.... when the Stamps #1 team played our #1 team I think they dominated so we'll see. If so, doesn't bode well. But it's a long 18 game season. Lots can happen. -
I remember former Blue Bomber head coach Joe Zaleski using a very similar phrase in his time as the Bomber on field boss from 1967 thru the 1969 season. At various times, during all 3 training camps & pre seasons he was in charge, the local media asked Joe how he felt the team was doing. He'd always cheerily answer, "We're optimistic!!" He won something like 12 football games as head coach in 3 seasons. I remember this because as a young fan of 13 & 14, even I knew it was a bullshit answer & was sick of hearing that phrase so much that it always stuck with me. Even after 45 years plus!! Zaleski is one of my top 3 Worst Blue Bombers Head Coaches Of All Time. The other 2? Jeff Reinbold & Tim Burke. Not necessarily in that order. I pretty much agree with your Top 3 Al. Other gridiron grapes were Daryl Rogers, Jim Daley and the last portions of Cal Murphy's reign where he started to lose it. Plop was no great shakes but the type of personnel he was supplied with explains a lot. Yeah Nate, I agree about Rogers but I think he got the team to the playoffs at least so at least he accomplished that. However, Rogers really was clueless about Canadian Football. The more I think about it, the more I think Zaleski was just so inept. Yeah, he took over a team that was riddled with retirements from the Bud Grant era but he wasn't head coach material & not much of a leader compared to say MOS. I don't think many of his players went to the wall for him.

ottawa didn't look that bad, actually. when burris was in, the offense moved the ball. they actually have a decent offensive line to give hank protection.

At qb, I see it as Willy, Brohm, Hall & Marve. I'm shocked Brohm got so much playing time last night at Hall's & Marve's expense. Marve's time was so limited in 2 games that it's hard to tell if he is capable of playing in the CFL. Hall didn't get a lot of playing time in 2 games either which is a shocker. He also didn't look comfortable out there when he did. But Brohm possibly #2? Well...
-
Willy hasn't looked out of place & the more reps he gets in practice as well as game experience he'll improve. I'm beginning to worry about Max Hall a bit. He didn't get a lot of playing time in 2 games which is a shock to me & he doesn't look comfortable out there. Why is Brohm getting so much playing time? I don't get it. Marve got more garbage time with only about 4 minutes of playing time in the fourth quarter. I think he's done. He'll be the odd man out, I think... But Brohm possibly #2? I don't get that. I will say he did look better against the Stamps than on Monday vs Toronto so there was some improvement there.

You forgot to mention that if you are a fan of another team then you are targeted for attack by the wheatheads over there which is why I stopped posting there nearly 10 years ago. I'd never go back. Plus I hate the team & the fanbase so I wouldn't anyway. That Migs dude posted on riderfans at one point, didn't he? He still posts there under a different name but he was banned. He has such a bad rep that he posts under different names on different sites. Migs been banned on a lot of sites. Lol, in which case, he could still be on there. This is where they need IP banning, so he can't do that. Have you actually heard any of this, or is that just you making stuff up about Rider fans? I'm not so sure I believe this. Unfortunately, Duressler what 17 says for the most part is true. A small vocal minority has really spoiled it for good Rider fans like yourself with their boorish behaviour. I've seen it in Calgary lots of times at Stamps games over the past decade or so to the point that I just refuse to go to any games at McMahon when the Riders play anymore. Fights in the crowd, swearing, drunk Rider idiots standing in front of people & refusing to sit down, nude Rider fans running on the field, boorish behaviour in the concourse & stands has become a real turn off for me. It's almost weird to have a decent Rider fan on a different team's website. Especially when you have guys like Migs & his multiple aliases crapping the bed wherever he goes. I think it's great to have you here BTW.Yeah, it only takes 2 people to believe it. I must sound incredibly naïve, but I only just started attending Rider games in the last couple years and haven't been to a game in Calgary before. Not much experience I guess .It's really unfortunate, but when a team/league gets popular, the idiots and bandwagoners are bound to come along. A big example of this are the Pittsburgh Penguins. When Sidney Crosby got drafted, their fan base skyrocketed, and with it came a **** load of idiots and bandwagoners, which seemingly got worse in the last few years with Dan Bylsma as the coach. It's brutal on HF boards during games.. People had warped opinions, and if you ever disagreed with them, either you are "trolling or stupid". I can't imagine the fans at the games are great either. Its really unfortunate to see, being a fan of the Pens. I like the players, but just don't like much of the fans. Thanks for the welcome, BTW . You're welcome!

Hey, we're way ahead of last year. We lost 52-0 in Guelph!! Our brainiac head coach left all his veterans at home. Not because he was evaluating the rookies but he was afraid the vets would get hurt. Burke, ugh!

Walking on the ice in high heels. Loser.

White looked absolutely terrible yet Jones kept playing him& playing him. You'd think he'd want to get the rust off Nicholls in the pre season. Or maybe he just thinks Reilly is his guy & doesn't want a qb controversy. Either way, I thought the decision to keep White in was really questionable. Benevides gave Glenn the first quarter which too was a bit surprising. He needs to get his timing down throwing the ball & getting familiar with the new playbook. Not a very good game to watch. That little scatback for BC is going to steal Stephan Logan's job, you watch.

Sad news that former 4 time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Chuck Noll passed away Friday at age 82. He was the architect of those great teams in the 70's that dominated the NFL. Especially the famous " Steel Curtain" defense. Link: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2014/06/14/legendary-steelers-coach-chuck-noll-dies.

This pic is a couple of weeks old. I would imagine the lines have been painted on by now. Looks like the stadium in Ottawa is nearly ready to go. Then there's Hamilton...

An Esks defensive back & a Lions receiver got tangled up on a pass play downfield & a PI was called. The ref & Glen Suitor referred to it as "accidental pass interference" so instead of moving the ball up to where the infraction occurred it was an automatic first down & a 10 yard penalty against Edmonton. I got to thinking that I've never heard of Accidental PI. But both the ref & Suitor used the same terminology so I was wondering if there's been some kind of rule change? My way of thinking is if it was accidental then why is it a penalty? Makes no sense to me. Isn't the proper term supposed to be something like, "Incidental contact on a receiver downfield" instead of accidental pass interference?

are the most out of touch people on the planet. They really don't seem to know anything other than it's not fair that some people have more than they do so **** those people. "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money" Baroness Thatcher. Disagree. No one gets rich without other people working for them. Who's benefiting more: an employee at Microsoft or Bill Gates? AND... who took the risk?

Depth chart for Saturdays preseason game vs Calgary

How the hell can Marve still be #4 behind the pylon Brohm? Like, what is up with that? -
Quoted because it needs repeating. When the wife puts it on I can't help doing the Homer Simpson style 'D'OOOOOOME!!!!!' The League is always funny. I can't believe I forgot It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Louie - Louis CK's show - is normally a good watch. He has complete creative control and he's made the best of it. You may be able to tell I have a thing for raunchy and irreverent humor. Because damnit, life is too short to sit around watching documentaries about fracking. Frack!

Wow, to almost strike over terms like nationals & internationals.

Chaps is no longer associated in any way with Riderfans. CalgaryRiderFan is the sole admin. He now owns the site. I haven't posted at RF.com since the mid 2000's when the inmates took over the asylum.
